Abstract The sizing of vibrating screen machines can be done by various methods, most of them based on the classic method of Allis Chalmers (ACM). Due to the wide diffusion and applicability, the ...Peter King (PKM) and Karra (KM) methods present great technical relevance as well. The objective of this study was to evaluate and compare the results of the screen surface areas, calculated by these three methods, and the real areas of the industrial machines. The study was based on data generated in 11 real industrial screening operations, being possible to evaluate the deviations of the areas calculated by the mathematical methods in relation to the real areas of the industrial machines. Results have shown that although all methods have restrictions on their use, PKM has the smallest deviations compared to the real dimensions of the industrial machines for four screening conditions. All these conditions showed screen apertures from 4.76mm to 19mm, moisture from 2.12% to 3.3%, Gneiss as feed material and deviations smaller than 13%.
Cold-pressed moringa, milk thistle, and jujube seed oils were investigated in terms of their characteristic profiles, thermal properties, and oxidative stability. The findings proved that the ...extracted oils were characterized by high nutritional values, which encourages their use in various fields. Results showed significant differences between the obtained oils. Overall, jujube seed oil exhibited the best quality parameters, with acidity equal to 0.762 versus 1% for the moringa and milk thistle seed oils. Milk thistle seed oil showed absorbance in the UV-C (100-290 nm), UV-B (290-320 nm), and UV-A (320-400 nm) ranges, while the moringa and jujube seed oils showed absorbance only in the UV-B and UV-A ranges. Concerning bioactive compounds, jujube seed oil presented the highest content of polyphenols, which promoted a good scavenging capacity (90% at 10 µg/mL) compared to the moringa and milk thistle seed oils. Assessing the thermal properties of the obtained oils showed the presence of four groups of triglycerides in the moringa and milk thistle seed oils, and two groups of triglycerides in the jujube seed oil. The thermograms were constant at temperatures above 10 °C for milk thistle seed oil, 15 °C for jujube seed oil, and 30 °C for moringa seed oil, which corresponded to complete liquefaction of the oils. The extinction coefficients K
and K
, monitored during storage for 60 days at 60 °C, proved that jujube seed oil had the highest polyphenols content and was the most stable against thermal oxidation.
Neodymium and dysprosium are two rare earth elements (REEs), out of a group of 17 elements. Due to their unique properties, REEs gained increasing importance in many new technologies, like wind ...turbines, batteries, etc. However, the production of REEs requires high material and energy consumption and is associated with considerable environmental burdens. Due to the strong dependency of European industry on Chinese REE exports, this paper presents a possible European production chain of REEs based on the mineral eudialyte found in Norra Kärr (Sweden). This European production is compared to a Chinese route, as China produces more than 85% of today’s REEs. Bayan Obo as the largest REE deposit in China is considered as the reference system. Using the life cycle assessment method, the environmental impacts of both production lines are assessed. This study presents newly-estimated data of a possible Swedish eudialyte-based production route for Europe. Results for the new eudialyte process route show reduced environmental burdens, although the total REE content in eudialyte is much smaller than in the Bayan Obo deposit. Especially, the results for dysprosium from eudialyte outreach those for Bayan Obo due to the higher content of heavy rare earth elements.
Ion-microprobe U-Pb geochronological data of zircon grains from three Mesoproterozoic deformed granite plutons in the Western and Median Segments of the Sveconorwegian Province, SW Sweden give ...intrusion ages of 1336±10 Ma for the Askim Granite, 1311±8 Ma for the Kärra Granite and ≥1304±6 Ma for the Göta Granite. In addition, oscillatory zoned zircon grains in a pegmatite dyke in the Kärra Granite were dated at 1325±8 Ma, i.e. identical within analytical uncertainty with the age of the host granite. The zircon grains from the pegmatite are interpreted as xenocrysts from the Kärra Granite. The plutons are part of a 1.34-1.30 Ga bimodal magmatic suite which we call the Kungsbacka Bimodal Suite, forming a N-S trending linear belt from Kungsbacka in the south to Trollhättan in the north. Other possible members are the 1.32 Ga Ursand Granite, the 1.33 Ga Hästefjorden Granite, the 1.31 Ga Veddige Augen gneiss, the 1.33 Ga Stråvalla Augen gneiss and the 1.33 Ga Chalmers Mafic Intrusion. The suite probably formed in a continental rift environment. This study demonstrates that the Kungsbacka Bimodal Suite, which is restricted to the Western and Median Segments, is younger than the 1.38 Ga Tjärnesjö and Torpa Granites in the Eastern Segment of the Sveconorwegian Province. This difference indicates that the Mylonite Zone may be interpreted as a first order Sveconorwegian tectonic boundary, separating crustal segments with distinct pre-Sveconorwegian histories. Metamorphic overgrowths on zircons from the Kärra pegmatite are dated at 1043±11 Ma and confirm the age of Sveconorwegian metamorphism at 1.04 Ga in the Western Segment. This study also documents the occurrence of post-1.3 Ga penetrative deformation and high-grade metamorphism including partial melting in the Western and Median Segments. It also proves that in some areas it is impossible to distinguish post-Gothian from older units, based only on their degree of deformation.

Lisa O'Blenis - Alberta Lisa O'Blenis is a volunteer tutor with the Calgary Public Library's Learning Advantage Program, which pairs volunteers with adult literacy learners to achieve their reading, ...writing and numeracy goals. O'Blenis is committed to lifelong learning and to helping adults overcome their literacy challenges. By customizing lessons and supporting her students, O'Blenis goes above and beyond to provide learners with the necessary literacy skills for the home, workplace and further education. Thanks to O'Blenis' help, one of her students received his Canadian citizenship and will now be attending the University of Calgary. When not volunteering as a literacy tutor, O'Blenis works in volunteer management, supporting and coordinating a team of over 500 volunteers. O'Blenis has a positive impact on her students and is a true champion for literacy in Alberta. Literacy Alliance of the Shuswap Society (LASS) - British Columbia LASS approached the literacy scene with the attitude of "what can we do to help or support you" rather than "this is what we're doing." In addition to fostering community collaboration and partnerships, LASS has delivered a variety of well-received literacy programs that target learners across all ages and sectors. For example, the One-to-One Children's Literacy Program has involved over 200 community volunteers across 13 schools. In only four months, participating children significantly increased their reading speed and their reading accuracy. LASS exemplifies commitment to innovative literacy practices and positive literacy outcomes for all learners as they work to weave literacy into the culture of the communities in School District 83 - North Okanagan Shuswap. Doris Roberts - Yukon Doris Roberts is an elder of the Tr'ondek Hwech'in from Dawson City. She has made it her life's work to study, recover and teach her traditional Han language. Upon returning to her family after residential school, Roberts worked hard to re-learn the language she had not been allowed to speak. She then began teaching others. Roberts also played a pivotal role in recovering Han language and songs that had been entrusted to the Tanacross of Alaska. Her teaching now includes songs, stories and performances that had been missing for 100 years. The Tr'ondek Hwech'in now perform these traditional songs at their gatherings. Because of Roberts' efforts and dedication to the Han language, community members are hopeful that Han will once again be a strong and vibrant language, and a strong part of their culture.
