İsviçreli yazarChristian Kracht’ın 2001’de yayımlanan ikinci romanı 1979, Batı burjuvakültürüne zımni bir eleştiri niteliğini taşır. Gerek adı gerekse İran’ınbaşkenti Tahran’ı –özellikle de ilk ...bölümde– mekân olarak öne çıkarmasıdolayısıyla roman, doğrudan doğruya aynı tarihli İran İslam Devrimi’niçağrıştırır. Kracht’ın romanı, Tahran’ı öncelikle modern bir kent olarak tarifeder. Bu doğrultuda Tahran’ı dünyanın dört bir yanından dekadan kesimlerinjet-set partiler düzenlediği bir kent olarak tanırız ve bu bilginin ışığındaTahran romanda, Doğu’nun özgül kimliğinden bağımsız, deyiş yerindeysekültüraşırı bir mekân olarak karşımıza çıkar. Ne var ki tarih 1979’dur ve kent,toplumsal ve siyasi bir dönüşümün eşiğindedir. Bununla birlikte kentin,dolayısıyla da ülkenin politik bir yol ayrımında olması, bu romanın konusudeğildir. Roman daha ziyade tam da darbenin eşiğinde bu kente gelen anonim birben-anlatıcı ile partneri Christopher’a odaklanır. İkili, dekadan kesimlerindahil olduğu bir partiye katılmak üzere kenttedir. Batılı yaşam tarzınıdejenerasyona uğramış biçimiyle teşhis ettiğimiz bu partiden sonra Christopher,kentin karanlık bir semtinde sefil bir hastanede ölür. Böylece 1979’un anonimbaşkişisi, halihazırda eşiğinde bulunduğu Batı’nın ötekisi olarak Doğu’ya doğruyola çıkar ve hep daha doğuya gider. Batı’dan uzaklaştıkça sadece Batılıkimliğiyle özne değil, özneyle birlikte uygarlık, kültür gibi aslen Batı’yaatfedilen kavramlar da ölür. Böylece 1979 sadece dünya tarihinde bir devrimintarihi değil, kültürel birer gösterge olarak mekân ve zaman kavramlarının daçözünüp dağıldığı bir dönüm noktası haline gelir. Bu çalışma, ChristianKracht’ın 1979 adlı romanında bu savı tartışacaktır.
Christian Kracht's influential novel Imperium, located between story and history, follows the life of August Engelhardt, a German life-reforming nudist and cocovore at the fin de siecle, who in 1902 ...established a cocovore colony in German New Guinea, a part of the German Empire before World War I. This article will trace the interaction of the fictional world in Kracht's novels (especially in Imperium, but also in 1979, Ich werde hier sein im Sonnenschein und im Schatten, Faserland), and the historic life reform utopias. In a first part the comparison of story and history is at stake. It will show how the politics of the German Empire, and that of the life reform utopian, are converted into Kracht's fictional world. The second part will elaborate the circularity in Kracht's novels, and discuss the question of how the circularity of Kracht's fiction radicalizes the utopia towards a dystopia. The third section will focus on the question of the realization of utopia, and whether a realization of utopia will erase the advancing character of the utopian thinking. It will show that a realization of utopia is only possible in a fictional world.
Christian Kracht's novel Imperium (2012) is based upon the life of August Engelhardt, a radical cocovore and nudist, who decides to establish a colony of coconuts in German New Guinea before World ...War I. In the form of a utopia, the novel contains a sharp criticism of German colonial history. In modernism, utopias are representations of paradisiacal places and identified with alternative ways of organizing better societies. Actually, they are improved by the existence of reality itself, which builds the fundamental source of utopias. Thus, they always end up with corruption. This paper focuses on Christian Kracht's novel Imperium (2012) and aims to analyze the novel within the concept of utopian impulses as constitutive elements of utopias. Referring to Fredric Jameson, this study examines the challenge between reality and utopian thinking. This article also shows how utopias end up in destruction.

ABSTRACT
This detailed discussion of the entirety of Kracht's fictional œuvre is an effort to re‐position and reassess him both in the critical literature and in relation to longer‐term literary ...trends. With reference to Faserland, I identify the key fault lines in the often conflicting scholarly and critical reception of Kracht's work, most notably the consensus which has emerged that beneath his apparent preoccupation with ‘surface’ there is significant seriousness or ‘depth’ intended. I then discuss the novels 1979, Ich werde hier sein im Sonnenschein und Schatten and Imperium to identify their underlying thematic and aesthetic continuities in order to interrogate this mainstream view. In particular, I contend that for all their apparent engagement with historical, philosophical and socio‐cultural issues, such as national identity and the search for ‘Heimat’, highly ludic elements, including a heightened intertextuality and intermediality, run through all the texts. These serve Kracht's self‐conscious intent to alienate and entertain the reader in order to playfully insist on his novels’ status as artefacts, thereby deliberately debunking their seriousness. Kracht's dominant mode is humour, his style pastiche: a mark of individual distinction in an otherwise crowded literary landscape with its frequently ‘realistic’ focus on historical and contemporary concerns.
Dieser Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit dem umstrittenen Schriftsteller Christian Kracht und gilt als Versuch, vor dem Hintergrund der Forschungsliteratur sowie aktueller Trends sein gesamtes Romanwerk in der gegenwärtigen literarischen Landschaft der Bundesrepublik zu verorten. Ausgehend von der Rezeption des Debütromans Faserland (1995) wird auf einen inzwischen breiten kritischen Konsens hingewiesen, nach dem Krachts Werke trotz ihrer Beschäftigung mit der ‘Oberfläche’ sich durchaus ‘tiefsinningen’ Themen widmen. Anhand einer Untersuchung von den Romanen 1979, Ich werde hier sein im Sonnenschein und Schatten und Imperium wird diese Position revidiert. Die ästhetischen und thematischen Konstanten im Werk werden hervorgehoben, um zu behaupten, dass den Romanen Krachts eine durchaus spielerische Dimension innewohnt, die den konstatierten ethischen Ernst mit Absicht – und mit Humor – unterminiert. Krachts Duktus ist Pastiche: sein besonderer Beitrag zur Vielfalt der neuen erzählerischen Literatur seit der Wende, deren Haupttendenz auf einer eher ‘realistischen’ Beschäftigung mit der deutschen Geschichte und Gegenwart liegt.

Fremdheit ist "eine Wunde, die nicht völlig vernarbt" (Bernhard Waldenfels). Dieser Gedanke verdient es, als produktive Metapher weitergeführt zu werden. "Radikale Fremdheit" (Waldenfels), die ...extremere Variante von Andersheit, lässt sich weder philosophisch entschärfen noch literarisch durch Interkulturalität erträglich machen und auch nicht durch geschickte Zwischenlösungen domestizieren. Man fühlt sich radikal fremd, man begibt sich selbständig in radikale Fremdheit oder man wird in sie geradezu gedrängt. Deshalb wäre es an der Zeit, radikale Fremdheit als Existenzform ernst zu nehmen, und zwar als eine solche, die nicht mit Andersheit zu verwechseln ist, da sie voraussetzt, dass das Subjekt in Permanenz außer sich selbst ist und weder dem Zwang zur Versöhnung noch Feindseligkeiten nachgeben will, da er auch Anfeindung als Maßnahme des Selbstschutzes billigt. Radikale Fremdheit ist einfach da, nicht viel anders als der Selbsterhaltungstrieb oder das Glücksstreben: Sie ist ein Mehrwert der unhintergehbaren Individualität, eine Antagonistin des postmodernen Selbst, eine Chiffre der Kontingenzepoche. Am Beispiel von Romanen Thomas Bernhards, Jean Amérys, Josef Zoderers, Friedrich Dürrenmatts, Gerhard Roths, Christian Krachts und Rainald Goetz' setzt der Autor die Überlegungen seines Buches 'Kompensation und Kontingenz in deutschsprachiger Literatur' (2016) fort.

Ihre Zerstörungskraft lässt sich ...jedoch nicht in Zahlen ausdrücken. Das katastrophische Potenzial des Tunguska-Ereignisses liegt vielmehr in seiner beharrlichen Rätselhaftigkeit. Das Fehlen einer haltbaren Erklärung erschüttert die moderne Wissensproduktion in ihren Grundfesten.
Solvejg Nitzkes Analyse des Tunguska-Diskurses, der wissenschaftliche, parawissenschaftliche und literarische Texte umfasst, zeigt nicht nur die Grenzen zentraler Programme der Moderne auf, sondern öffnet nicht zuletzt auch den Blick für die Möglichkeiten kulturwissenschaftlicher Forschung.
