Aims
To test the role of the nursing team leader's (nurse leader) proactivity in attenuating the adverse effect of the nursing team's workload on the team learning and subsequent performance and to ...consider the role of intellectual stimulation by the nurse leader in this moderated mediation effect.
Design
A cross‐sectional design.
Methods
Data on 63 nursing teams were collected from various healthcare organizations by having 455 nursing team members and 63 nurse leaders complete validated questionnaires during 2016–2017.
Results
As was hypothesized, the nurse leader's proactivity significantly attenuated the adverse effect of nursing team workload on both nursing team learning and intellectual stimulation. Furthermore, intellectual stimulation significantly predicted nursing team learning. Overall, when the nurse leader's proactivity was low, there was a significant indirect effect of nursing team workload on nursing team performance mediated successively by intellectual stimulation and nursing team learning. When the nurse leader's proactivity was high, however, this indirect effect faded.
Conclusions
Proactive nurse leaders attenuate the adverse effect of nursing team workload on nursing team learning and subsequent performance. While less proactive nurse leaders demonstrate lower levels of intellectual stimulation under high nursing team workloads, the highly proactive nurse leaders sustain its level and thus maintain nursing team learning.
Impact
This study addresses the nursing team workload–learning relationship. It was found that the indirect negative effect of nursing team workload on team performance, which is mediated by intellectual stimulation, followed by team learning, is substantially reduced when the nurse leader's proactivity is high rather than low.

Aim: To determine the level of teamwork among nursing staff in a selected teaching hospital and identify factors that influence the level of teamwork.Design: A descriptive cross-sectional ...study.Methods: The sample included 292 nursing staff working in a teaching hospital in the Žilina region of Slovakia. Data collection was carried out between April and June 2022 using the Nursing Teamwork Survey (NTS). Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: The mean score for the NTS was 2.87 (SD = 0.56) demonstrating a positive perception of teamwork less than 75% of the time. The highest evaluated subscale was the shared mental model (3.23 ± 0.62). Differences were found in the evaluation of teamwork according to education, job position, working hours, total and current professional experience, intention to leave, and staffing adequacy. The correlation analysis revealed associations between teamwork and variables related to satisfaction and quality and safety evaluation. Several variables predicted the general evaluation of teamwork (p < 0.05).Conclusion: The evaluation of teamwork may point to its different perception among members of nursing teams. It may also help to identify strengths and weaknesses of nursing teams and, consequently, to implement effective techniques focused on improving teamwork and, thus, the quality of nursing care in hospitals.
Background & Aim: Teamwork represents a fundamental prerequisite for providing quality and safe care. This study aimed to determine the level of teamwork and the factors that influence the level of ...teamwork in selected hospitals in the Slovak Republic.
Methods & Materials: The descriptive cross-sectional study included 207 nurses from 12 departments of three district hospitals in the Slovak Republic. Data were collected between November 2022 and February 2023 using a questionnaire that evaluated nursing teamwork, the Nursing Teamwork Survey. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics.
Results: Nurses evaluated the level of teamwork as (3.74± 0.64), which means ideal less than 75% of the time during the last working shift. The best-rated subscale was the Shared mental model (4.17± 0.49), while the worst-rated subscale was Team orientation (2.47± 0.85). Differences in teamwork level were found based on unit type, education, number of hours worked, number of overtime hours, and perceived staff adequacy (p≤ 0.05). The correlation analysis revealed associations between teamwork and job satisfaction, teamwork satisfaction, subjective quality evaluation, and patient safety, as well as with the number of patients in the last shift, including the number of admitted and discharged patients.
Conclusion: By regularly determining teamwork levels, it is possible to identify the strengths and weaknesses of nursing teams. Analyzing team weaknesses and implementing targeted measures can lead to strengthening teamwork and improving team functioning.
Objective

Aim The aim of the present study was to explore the influence of unit ...characteristics, staff characteristics and teamwork on job satisfaction with current position and occupation.
Background Teamwork has been associated with a higher level of job satisfaction but few studies have focused on the acute care inpatient hospital nursing team.
Methods This was a cross‐sectional study with a sample of 3675 nursing staff from five hospitals and 80 patient care units. Participants completed the Nursing Teamwork Survey (NTS).
Results Participants’ levels of job satisfaction with current position and satisfaction with occupation were both higher when they rated their teamwork higher (P < 0.001) and perceived their staffing as adequate more often (P < 0.001). Type of unit influenced both satisfaction variables (P < 0.05). Additionally, education, gender and job title influenced satisfaction with occupation (P < 0.05) but not with current position.
Conclusions Results of this present study demonstrate that within nursing teams on acute care patient units, a higher level of teamwork and perceptions of adequate staffing leads to greater job satisfaction with current position and occupation.
Implications for Nursing Management Findings suggest that efforts to improve teamwork and ensure adequate staffing in acute care settings would have a major impact on staff satisfaction.
