Purpose
Mental health recovery across cultures lacks understanding and suitable measures. The Questionnaire about the Process of Recovery (QPR) is a self-report instrument measuring personal recovery ...outcomes for consumers of mental health services. However, the extent of its relevance among culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities is unclear. This pilot study aimed to examine the relevance and utility of the QPR among CALD consumers of primary mental health services in Australia.
Design/methodology/approach
Eleven individual, semi-structured interviews were conducted with two general practitioners (GPs) and nine consumers from two clinics, at locations with high Iranian and Burmese refugee or asylum seeker populations. Interviews were transcribed and analysed using a thematic framework approach.
Findings
Although almost all consumers had little or no understanding of the concept of personal recovery, they found the QPR culturally acceptable and understandable. Using the QPR during mental health consultations can help with needs identification and goal setting. Challenges in using the QPR included completion time, cross-cultural differences in concepts and norms for some items, and need for careful translation. Consumers suggested additional items regarding family reputation, sexuality, and spirituality.
Originality/value
The QPR is potentially a valuable tool to support mental health consultations with CALD consumers, from the perspectives of both GPs and consumers.
For the purpose of realizing permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) systems with strong robustness and smooth speed, the quasi-proportional-resonant (QPR) controller is combined with the ...super-twisting extended state observer (STESO) in this article. Although the traditional active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) scheme generally selects a sufficiently large bandwidth of linear extended state observer (LESO) to enhance the time-varying disturbance rejection capacity, the bandwidth of LESO is limited by system stiffness. To solve this tough issue, the STESO using a generalized super-twisting technique is developed to optimize the stability and anti-disturbance capacity of the motor drive system. In addition, the QPR controller is combined with the proposed STESO to suppress the motor speed fluctuation. Experimental results show that the proposed STESO-based QPR control algorithm has satisfactory characteristics.
Mental health problems and risk behaviours among young people are of great public health concern. Consequently, within the VII Framework Programme, the European Commission funded the Saving and ...Empowering Young Lives in Europe (SEYLE) project. This Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) was conducted in eleven European countries, with Sweden as the coordinating centre, and was designed to identify an effective way to promote mental health and reduce suicidality and risk taking behaviours among adolescents.
To describe the methodological and field procedures in the SEYLE RCT among adolescents, as well as to present the main characteristics of the recruited sample.
Analyses were conducted to determine: 1) representativeness of study sites compared to respective national data; 2) response rate of schools and pupils, drop-out rates from baseline to 3 and 12 month follow-up, 3) comparability of samples among the four Intervention Arms; 4) properties of the standard scales employed: Beck Depression Inventory, Second Edition (BDI-II), Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (Z-SAS), Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ), World Health Organization Well-Being Scale (WHO-5).
Participants at baseline comprised 12,395 adolescents (M/F: 5,529/6,799; mean age=14.9±0.9) from Austria, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Romania, Slovenia and Spain. At the 3 and 12 months follow up, participation rates were 87.3% and 79.4%, respectively. Demographic characteristics of participating sites were found to be reasonably representative of their respective national population. Overall response rate of schools was 67.8%. All scales utilised in the study had good to very good internal reliability, as measured by Cronbach's alpha (BDI-II: 0.864; Z-SAS: 0.805; SDQ: 0.740; WHO-5: 0.799).
SEYLE achieved its objective of recruiting a large representative sample of adolescents within participating European countries. Analysis of SEYLE data will shed light on the effectiveness of important interventions aimed at improving adolescent mental health and well-being, reducing risk-taking and self-destructive behaviour and preventing suicidality.

Objective:
The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) gatekeeper suicide prevention training on individuals’ ability to recognise the warning signs of ...suicide, intention to question someone they think is suicidal, persuade the suicidal person to stay alive, and know how and where to get help for the person. We also examined whether QPR training increased an individual’s intention to intervene with a suicidal individual.
Design:
A pretest–posttest online survey, based on the theory of planned behaviour, was employed before and after the face-to-face QPR training.
Setting:
The study was conducted on a small regional college campus in the Midwest USA.
Method:
Faculty, staff, and students at a regional campus completed two online questionnaires (pretest, n = 108, and posttest, n = 79) answering questions about attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioural control regarding suicide intervention, as well as their intention to intervene with someone who was suicidal. They also completed a 1-hour QPR gatekeeper training event.
Results:
QPR training significantly improved attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioural control regarding suicide intervention, and intention to intervene. It was also effective at increasing intention to question, persuade and refer (the three core goals of QPR).
Conclusions:
QPR training has been shown to be effective in the short-term at increasing intention to intervene within a US college community.

The inverter module serves as a critical component in the conversion of electrical energy within arc plasma power sources, exerting a profound influence on the overall performance and stability of ...the power supply. Consequently, the meticulous design and precise control of the inverter module are of paramount importance in ensuring the effective operation and application of arc plasma power sources. This paper introduces a dual-closed-loop control system, integrating a voltage outer loop with a current inner loop, as the cornerstone of its inverter module design. It also undertook a comprehensive comparative analysis of various voltage-control strategies, encompassing four control methods (PI, PID, PR, QPR) and two modulation techniques (bipolar modulation and unipolar, carrier-based modulation) under diverse operating conditions. Additionally, simulation experiments were conducted on a prototype 10 kW inverter module using the Matlab/Simulink simulation platform, with evaluation criteria including waveform tracking performance, voltage waveform distortion rate, and steady-state error. The results indicate that in low-frequency operating conditions, the voltage-control strategy employing QPR control plus unipolar, carrier-based modulation, and in high-frequency operating conditions, the voltage-control strategy utilizing PI control plus unipolar, carrier-based modulation exhibited superior waveform tracking performance. The waveform distortion rates were measured at below 0.47% and 4.2%, respectively, aligning perfectly with the stringent standards of IEEE 519. This research provides valuable theoretical support and practical guidance for future engineering endeavors in the field of inverters.
Due to motor asymmetry and system nonlinear factors, the dual three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives produce a large number of current harmonics during operation. Based on the ...Vector Space Decoupling model, the six-phase currents of the dual three-phase PMSM can be decomposed into the <inline-formula> <tex-math notation="LaTeX">\alpha \beta </tex-math></inline-formula>, the <inline-formula> <tex-math notation="LaTeX">z_{1}z _{2} </tex-math></inline-formula> and the <inline-formula> <tex-math notation="LaTeX">o_{1}o _{2} </tex-math></inline-formula> components. Speed and torque are controlled by controlling the <inline-formula> <tex-math notation="LaTeX">\alpha </tex-math></inline-formula> - <inline-formula> <tex-math notation="LaTeX">\beta </tex-math></inline-formula> current components. In addition, controlling the <inline-formula> <tex-math notation="LaTeX">z_{1} </tex-math></inline-formula>-<inline-formula> <tex-math notation="LaTeX">z_{2} </tex-math></inline-formula> current components is essential in suppressing current harmonics. In this paper, we propose two current harmonic suppression methods. Firstly, synchronous, anti-synchronous and bidirectional synchronous PI controllers are proposed to suppress current harmonics caused by different types of motor asymmetry. Secondly, a quasi-proportional resonance controller is proposed to suppress current harmonics caused by nonlinear factors of system. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.
Background: A common suicide prevention strategy is training gatekeepers to
identify at-risk individuals and refer them to services. Aims: The study aimed to examine
whether differences in training ...outcomes were observed for brief versus in-depth gatekeeper
trainings for trainees from varied professional settings while controlling for differences
in trainee characteristics and community context. Method: Trainees' identification and
referral behavior 3 months after gatekeeper training was compared with a sample of
respondents matched on individual- and community-level variables using propensity
score-based techniques. The value was estimated, in terms of additional identification and
associated costs, of adopting in-depth training. Results: A higher proportion of trainees
who participated in in-depth trainings from K-12 and community settings identified at-risk
youth, and a higher proportion of in-depth trainees from mental health settings referred
youth to services compared with participants of brief trainings from the same setting and
with similar characteristics. The effect of training type on outcomes varied by professional
role and community context. Limitations: Self-report measures were used to assess outcomes.
Similar measures are used in other studies; their validity has not been conclusively
established. Conclusion: Findings suggest certain individuals may benefit from in-depth
training more than others, which favors targeting this intervention to particular
gatekeepers.

This study proposes an approach for glottal inverse filtering of acoustic speech signals using quadratic programming (QPR). The method aims to jointly model the effect of vocal tract and lip ...radiation with a single filter whose coefficients are optimized using QPR. This optimization is based on the principles of closed phase analysis, where the contribution of the glottal source is attenuated in optimizing the inverse model of the vocal tract. By expressing the optimization problem in terms of the output of a filter, we can apply physically motivated optimization such as flatness of the closed phase. The proposed method was objectively evaluated using a synthetic Liljencrants-Fant model based test set of sustained vowels, as well as a real speech test set where the glottal flow estimates' closed phases were compared in terms of their flatness. The results based on synthetic speech indicate that the proposed method is robust to changes in f 0 , and state-of-the-art quality results were obtained for high-pitched voices, when f 0 is in the range 330-450 Hz. The results based on real speech indicate that the proposed method produces glottal flow estimates that have flatter closed phases with less formant ripple in comparison to estimates computed with known reference methods.
