In building structure design, refinements during construction for practical use or space conflicts induce construction delays and budget increases. Building information modeling (BIM) provides a 3D ...building model which includes the structure’s size, material, and construction information so designers clearly understand the whole construction process. For an irregular shaped building or elements such as a ramp or a curved roof, space conflict problems occur. The Autodesk’s Navisworks program provides a visual analysis tool for users to roam in a 3D model to simulate possible space conflicts and avoid them before the final design. In this study, we used the AutoDesk Revit program to set up a building system with a Navisworks space distance measurement tool to confirm the design’s rationality. An optimal structure system design process is proposed for practical applications to reduce the possibility of design changes.
As architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) practices become broadly mediated by computational methods, this article considers the modes of precarity implied for the architect adopting BIM ...as a medium of modelling and design. Situating the computational apparatus as a prosthesis to the BIM-architect, the article outlines the degree of agency configured for operators of BIM applications while they utilize the structures and methods of software pre-programmed by the application’s original developers. Exploring the structures of Autodesk Revit’s database via the Application Programming Interface (API), the paper interrogates the rationale and logic of building encoded by the program through a reading of its operative code in textual form. Situating an interplay between the Revit-architect and application, who programmes a building model while their intention and conceptualization is programmed in turn, the conditions of precarity installed for the Revit-architect as operator are considered as a result of their limited capacity to modify the programme’s operative methods. Drawing from a political history of technology to interrogate the distributed agency between the Revit-architect and technical apparatus, the article ultimately explores how the architect might adopt the phenomenal experience codified by the procedural operations of algorithms through alternative means. It concludes by drawing from autoethnographic practice and situated experiences at the site of the author’s studios, offering material from which to construct an alternative and differentiated notion of algorithm-aided modelling and design according to a nuanced attention to the depth of building.
The present paper deals with an infrastructure digitization policy to optimize maintenance processes and energy efficiency to transform port areas to ZED (Zero Energy District). The Lazio Region ...started the process for all its ports in 2020. The Anzio port started and developed as a pilot project as it is a particularly representative sample for the Mediterranean Sea reality due to its geomorphological conformation. The study aimed to develop energy-saving procedures and strategies and integrate production systems from Renewable Energy Systems (RESs) for sustainable mobility. In the article, these strategies are described in detail and energy analysis is carried out, starting from the current state and demonstrating the potential energy self-sufficiency of the infrastructure. Finally, the investigation’s potential utilizing a Digital Twin (DT) of the area is highlighted. Furthermore, the BIM (Building Information Modeling) and GIS (Geographic Information System) combining possibility to maximize the energy efficiency measures beneficial impact are discussed.

Objective: To determine the effect of the application of the Revit program in the improvement of spatial intelligence in Architecture students in a private university in Huancayo-Peru.
Theoretical ...structure: Armstrong (2006) expressed that spatial intelligence refers specifically to the content of forming a mental model in the spatial world and to control, act using this pattern, in an aggregate of attitudes and skills that combine a subtle understanding in shapes, lines, color, dimensions and spaces and the relationship of elements, which in turn allows largely to visualize and graphically represent a spatial or visual idea, mostly involves the improvement of visual perception. As stated by Rossado (2017) students use manual graphic expression to convey ideas quickly, and in the future, they should be able to combine the use of technology and manual expression, in addition to allowing students to express their design project anytime and anywhere, this will give them fluid cooperation, communication, empathy, cooperation, respect, ethics, honesty and teamwork skills, all of which provide adaptability to any work situation.
Design/Methodology/Approach: The study was conducted through a quantitative approach, according to Hernandez et al. (2014) is quasi-experimental which will be composed of two groups, the control and experimental, which will receive the treatment or stimulus, it is of longitudinal cut will collect the results of the studies that are conducted by collecting data at a single time and with the execution of the post test allows us to measure the effect of the program on spatial intelligence.
Conclusions: Differences of ranges of spatial intelligence have been observed between the control and experimental group; the value of Z was found below the critical value Zc= -1.96 where (-6.137<-1.96) and the p=0.000<0.05; with such result it can be affirmed that by using the Revit program a significant impact in the improvement of spatial intelligence is achieved, therefore the H0 is rejected and Ha is admitted.
Originality/Value: The present study is a significant contribution because it postulates the results obtained through field work and whose statistical treatments allow understanding the importance of the development of special intelligence in university students of the professional career of architecture in the consolidation of technical skills and management of technological applications such as Revit.
La aplicación de la metodología BIM utilizando Revit durante el proceso de proyecto, resulta imprescindible para los profesionales de la construcción por las ventajas que brinda en cuanto a ...integración en el proceso colaborativo entre las diferentes especialidades, gerencia de errores, calidad y costos. Cuba se inserta oportunamente en la utilización de este sistema de trabajo como parte de la política de desarrollo estratégico, donde el avance de la informatización y automatización de las construcciones es un asunto de primer orden. Constituye objetivo de este trabajo exponer las ventajas de la implementación de la metodología BIM utilizando Revit en el desarrollo de proyectos de edificaciones para el turismo. Fueron empleados métodos del nivel teórico y empírico que posibilitaron la obtención y procesamiento de la información relacionada con la utilización de la metodología BIM. Como resultados se muestran algunas de las experiencias obtenidas durante su implementación en la empresa EPIA once, en proyectos que se han realizado para la Cayería Norte entre los que se encuentra los Hoteles Coco Real (ya en proceso de ejecución) y Coco Caribe que actualmente está en la etapa de proyecto ejecutivo.
A plataforma BIM é uma filosofia de trabalho que integra arquitetos, engenheiros e construtores, na elaboração e execução de um modelo virtual preciso do projeto, o qual gera uma base de dados que ...contém tanto informações topológicas como os subsídios necessários para orçamento, cálculo energético e previsão das fases da construção. O BIM trabalha como gestor de banco de dados, de forma que qualquer alteração ou revisão realizada em qualquer parte de um projeto será automaticamente modificada em todas as demais formas de visualização, sejam tabelas, relatórios ou desenhos (documentos), gerados a partir do modelo. Com o uso da plataforma BIM e usando as ferramentas nela inclusa como por exemplo, REVIT, NAVISWORK, ARCHICAD, CYPE 3D, MSPROJECT, o projeto, a construção e a operação podem ser feita de modo muito mais rápido, eficiente e econômico. No presente artigo, foi feito a comparação entre 2 empresas, onde a empresa A não utilizará a plataforma BIM e todo seu projeto, apenas no orçamento. A empresa B, os sistemas BIM são utilizados para a modelagem dos projetos e geração de vistas, cortes, fachadas, toda documentação de forma mais detalhada e com maior qualidade e melhor visualização, porém não são aproveitas as diversas vantagens oferecidas pelo sistema. Após a comparação feita entre as empresas A e B, será mostrado que a falta de profissional habilitado para a utilização da plataforma BIM é a causa para o atraso do avanço do uso dessa tecnologia e que a utilização em ambas empresas ainda é baixa, pelo foco da empresa B, que não chegava ao canteiro de obras, e pela falta de profissionais treinados na empresa A, que obteve maior dificuldade no uso.
Building Information Modeling (BIM) initially emerged as a capability to transfer information and allow interaction or interoperability of various software tools used for architectural, structural, ...mechanical, electrical design, and building construction. Its application from developing 3D models, structural analysis, cost estimation, and mechanical analysis has now expanded to other applications such as energy simulation. Multiple computer-aided design (CAD) tools work as BIM authoring tools to generate BIM files in different formats containing various types of building information. In addition, there are various building energy modeling (BEM) tools capable of importing these BIM files to perform energy simulation. However, such tools have various capabilities and limitations and need to be investigated and categorized in order to facilitate choosing a proper tool for design professionals in different phases of project and purposes. In addition, interoperability and data exchange issues between BIM and BEM tools should be understood in order to find solutions such as developing proper corrective middleware tools to rectify them.
This paper reviews the challenges, issues, and shortcomings in BIM-to-BEM interoperability process (BBIP) by proposing a detailed classification for these issues and studying the available solutions. The paper also explains how a corrective middleware, which is developed by the authors using Python, can be utilized to modify a gbXML file prior to adoption in energy simulation to resolve the issues related to building envelope in BBIP. To do so, initially a review is presented on research studies focused on different types of BIM schemas such as IFC and gbXML and energy simulation tools capable of reading these files such as Green Building Studio (GBS), DesignBuilder, Integrated Environmental Solutions-Virtual Environment (IES), and OpenStudio. In addition, some of the challenges in the application of BIM for energy simulation such as interoperability issues, lack of standards, and lack of easy solutions for extending existing BIM schemas and available corresponding solutions are also reviewed. With the focus on building envelope in mind, three case studies are discussed to observe the challenges and issues with respect to BBIP using Revit, GBS, and OpenStudio. Moreover, these case studies provide an opportunity to investigate the application of corrective middleware tools similar to what is developed in the study presented.

A metodologia Building Information Modelling (BIM) é, atualmente, uma das principais expressões das inovações tecnológicas digitais aplicadas à Arquitetura, Engenharia, Construção e Operação. ...Trata-se de instrumento capaz de analisar grande quantidade de informações, por meio de um modelo virtual que gerencia o ciclo de vida do edifício, voltado as fases anteriores à construção. Para edifícios construídos tem-se o conceito de HBIM (Historic Building Information Modelling) como alternativa de gerenciamento, na qual objetos paramétricos são construídos a partir de dados de edifícios históricos. No entanto, componentes destinados ao registro histórico são raros em bibliotecas BIM e exigem grande esforço de modelagem, necessitando de protocolos e especificações relativos aos seus processos. Este artigo identifica e analisa meios para modelagem de componentes de um edifício histórico em BIM, partindo de um elemento do edifício moderno E1, localizado no campus USP São Carlos, SP. O método consistiu em revisão bibliográfica, levantamentos no local, modelagem paramétrica e avaliação das formas de desenvolvimento dos componentes, com uso de software BIM. Os resultados identificam três processos distintos de modelagem: Família de Sistema, Família Composta e Família Modelada no Local. A contribuição do artigo é a descrição e discussão dos procedimentos adotados, das potencialidades e limitações de cada processo e da sua aplicação a estudos similares. Os elementos produzidos foram disponibilizados em um repositório público, a fim de possibilitar seu registro, documentação e uso em projetos de gestão, manutenção, preservação e reconstrução do patrimônio estudado, e também como modelo exemplificado para bibliotecas HBIM a serem futuramente construídas.
