The Position of Italian as a Second Language in the Slovenian School System and the Proposals for Its Revitalization among Young People in the Bilingual Area The objective of this article is to offer ...the reader a presentation of the alarming position of Italian as a second language along the Slovenian coast and to propose a variety of possible solutions for its revitalization and improvement in schools in Slovenian Istria. For this purpose are presented two examples of good practice: the Welsh and Basque model. The success of these two models can fill us with hope that in the current situation, there is still room for an effective intervention for the Italian language.
Starosjedioci u Bertokima – Istrani s romanskim i slavenskim korijenima – govore
istarskim dijalektom talijanskoga i slovenskoga podrijetla. Dakle, u Bertokima
postoji suživot slovenskoga jezika – bertošanskoga, kako ga zovu mještani, i
istarskovenecijanskoga zvanoga bertosano.
snimaka.
The purpose of this paper was to investigate service quality in restaurants operating in the rural area of Slovenian Istria. The dineserv tool was used as a research instrument. The research sample ...consisted of 25 restaurant facilities and 250 valid questionnaires completed by domestic guests. Based on results of the exploratory factor analysis, twomain factor groups that best explain domestic guests’ quality perceptions in rural restaurant facilities were identified: (1) Empathy, Responsiveness, and Assurance (era) and (2) Tangibles. The results of our study are significantly different from those obtained in a previous study performed in the coastal area of Slovenian Istria (Kukanja & Planinc, 2015), as they indicate a relatively bipolar and homogeneous service quality structure. This study is of great managerial interest at the micro (restaurant) and macro (destination) levels. Research results indicate that restaurant managers should emphasise the importance of the two identified quality dimensions (era and Tangibles) and continuously measure the level of their offerings. Accordingly, research results may also be implemented in future destination quality and development strategies. In terms of future research, it would be of great interest to see if similarities in guests’ quality perceptions exist between Slovenian Istria and other competitive rural destinations.
The article deals with a modestly researched topic about the attitude of the general tourist population towards the traditional music of the destination. The concept of traditionalism itself is ...complex, and there are no clear objective criteria for what is and what is not 'traditional.' Tourism brings additional dynamics to the local community in the process of (re)defining its tradition. Although traditional music is an important element of the intangible cultural heritage of any destination, there is relatively little research on the perception, understanding and attitudes of the general tourist population towards traditional music. We believe that the misunderstanding of tourists' wishes, expectations and knowledge of traditional music is at least partly the cause of inappropriate representations of traditional music in tourism. By conducting a survey in the case of Slovenian Istria, a destination with a markedly untapped potential of traditional music, we investigated the factors determining it and its importance in the eyes of tourists. We also studied the differences between tourist segments. The chosen geographical area is highly multicultural and has had a turbulent political and migrant history, which makes it specific and at the same time very suitable for the purpose of the research.

The olive fruit fly (Bactrocera oleae Gmelin) is the most important olive pest in the north‐eastern Adriatic coast region. Despite the importance of olive production in the region, and the ...significance of the olive fruit fly, no information with respect to genetic diversity, population structure or dispersion patterns of this pest is available. The aims of this study were to investigate the genetic structure of the olive fly population in the Slovenian Istria region using microsatellite markers to determine olive fruit fly migration between locations and to establish an appropriate and effective strategy for controlling the pest population. Analysis was performed on a sample of 117 flies, collected from attacked olive fruits at three different locations. Olive fruit flies were genotyped using eight microsatellite loci. Sixty‐six alleles were identified over all microsatellite loci with an average of 8.25 alleles per locus. The population structure was determined with methods based on Bayesian principles using the BAPS 6.0 and STRUCTURE 2.3 programs. Genetic analysis confirmed unlimited migration and random mating between individuals of different microlocations, which suggests time‐coordinated first treatment in the region would be the best solution.

The focus of the study was business zones in Slovenian and Croatian Istria. The existing situation is characterised by a non-transparent situation as to the number, extent, and range of development areas. In the study, we used the comparative method to determine the existing situation and potential solutions for a more efficient role of zones in the concept of spatial development of Istria as a whole. We found that improvements in the fields of programmatic typology, data updating, and the management and marketing system were necessary.
