The article analyses the systemic framework of the operation of the Intelligence and Security Service of the Ministry of Defence (Obvescevalnovarnostna sluzba OVS) and parliamentary control over its ...operations. It takes as its focus a recent case related to the Defence Minister's order to the Service to produce material on the effects of the privatisation of the Telekom Slovenije on the operation of the Service in the light of Slovenia's defence interests. A linguostylistic analysis of the media reporting on the case was carried out. The findings show that while after 25 years as an independent state Slovenia has established the institutional framework for the operation of OVS and arranged parliamentary control over its work, it has not as yet managed to achieve the harmonised operation of all state policies in the field of national security. Rather than contributing to the resolution of certain dilemmas with regard to the legal, political and expert aspects of the operation of the civil intelligence and security service in the context of Slovenian national defence, media reporting used a selection of topicalized linguistic means (actualisms, i.e. stylistically marked linguistic means) in headlines to characterise the event as a scandal, and the OVS as a military intelligence service.

This paper analyses the systemic framework of the operation of the Intelligence and Security Service – ISS, and the parliamentary supervision of its operations. It takes as its focus a case that ...occurred last year and was related to the Defence Minister’s commissioning of working materials from the Service on the effects that the privatization of the national telecommunications provider – Telekom Slovenije would have on the operation of the Service in the light of Slovenia’s defence interests. This work also presents a linguostylistic analysis of the media reports covering this case. The findings show that while after 25 years as an independent state Slovenia has established the institutional framework for the operation of the ISS and regulated parliamentary supervision of its work, it has not as yet managed to achieve the harmonized operation of all state policies in the field of national security. Rather than contributing to the solution of certain dilemmas regarding the legal, political and professional aspects of the operation of this civil intelligence and security service in the context of Slovenian national defence, the media reporting used a selection of foregrounded (marked) linguistic means in headlines to characterize the event as a scandal, and designate the ISS as a military intelligence service.
Innovative programs for restructuring the entry phase of mathematics teacher education programs have been implemented at various German universities within the last few years. This article reports ...about the design and the results of a longitudinal evaluation study of the effectiveness of two of these programs aiming to improve mathematics teacher education by altering the conditions in university teaching (the so-called Teacher Education and Development Study TEDS-Telekom). The development of prospective teachers’ professional knowledge in academic mathematical content knowledge, knowledge in elementary mathematics from an advanced standpoint, and mathematical pedagogical content knowledge from the innovative programs were compared to traditional university programs. The study points out that the innovative programs only partially succeeded in improving the acquisition of professional knowledge for prospective mathematics teachers.

(Autorenreferat, BIBB-Doku).

This comparison of labor-management relations at Deutsche Telekom (DT) and NTT Group (formerly Nippon Telephone and Telegraph) demonstrates the value of considering both institutions and strategic ...decision-making to understand the interaction between companies and unions. As corporations diversify, multi-divisional or holding company structures emerge, but the degree of diversity introduced in employment relations within the corporate group depends on the interaction between corporate strategy and the strategy of organized labor. The authors' field research, based on interviews with managers and labor leaders, shows that despite a broadly similar corporate strategy of diversification by DT and NTT after the liberalization of telecommunication markets, employment relations became more decentralized-both for unions and for works councils-within the DT group than within the NTT group. This difference in outcomes is explained by the relative power and strategic choices of labor and management, rather than by constraints and opportunities specific to the existing national institutions.
