Although scholars often assume that Luke and Justin similarly claim the sacred texts of Jews for the non-Jewish church, this book offers a fresh analysis that uncovers significant differences between ...their respective depictions of the relationship between Christ-believers and the Jewish scriptures.
The book of Acts contains a strong geographical component. Yet readings of Acts typically ignore or marginalise geography's contribution to the construction of the narrative's theology. In this book ...Matthew Sleeman argues that Jesus' ascension into heaven is foundational for establishing the 'spatiality' of Acts, showing that the narrative's understanding of place and space is shaped decisively by Christ's heavenly location. Drawing on recent advances in geographical theory, Sleeman offers a 'spatial' interpretation that expands our vision of how space and place inform the theological impulses of Acts. Presenting a complement to conventional 'temporal' readings of Acts, he sheds new light on the theology of the book, and suggests new ways of reading not only Acts but also other New Testament texts. Sleeman's work combines innovative biblical scholarship with accessible and informative geographical analysis, and is suitable for those with research and teaching interests in human geography or biblical studies.

The purpose of introducing and studying the notion of ⋂-large pseudo-injective acts is to create a basis that facilitates the exchange of ideas between the theory of module and act theory. ...Furthermore, it represents a generalization of the pseudo-injective act which was presented by the author and Yan T. and can take it as a basis for future work for the researchers who work in acts theory. Besides, the concept of quasi injective S-acts over monoids was generalized to pseudo injective by the author and obtained new properties and characterization for this notion. In this paper, we continue to find another weak form of generalization for pseudo injective which is called ⋂-large pseudo injective act. Let M
S
and N
S
be two S-acts. M
S
is called ⋂-large pseudo-N-injective if for any ⋂-large subact X of N
S
, any monomorphism f from X into M
S
can be extended to some g from N
S
into M
S
. M
S
is called ⋂-large pseudo-injective if M
S
is ⋂-large pseudo M-injective. Major properties of mutually ⋂-large pseudo-injective acts and ⋂-large pseudo-injective acts are proved and their connections with pseudo-injective acts are addressed. Also, we have investigated the interrelationships of ⋂-reversible acts with pseudo injective acts. The conditions under which subacts of ⋂-large pseudo injective S-acts inherit the property of ⋂-large pseudo-injective have been studied.

In this paper, we complete an early result by R. Khosravi and M. Roueentan on the hollow act and obtained new properties and characterizations for this notion continues the account of hollow act for ...commutative monoids begun on 2019. This notion (hollow acts) represents a dual notion to the uniform acts which were submit by M. Roueentan and M. Sedaghatjoo on 2017. An S-act Ms is referred to as hollow act if every subact Ns of Ms is small where a subact Ns is called small (or superfluous) in Ms if for every subact Hs of MS, NS∪HS=MS implies Hs=Ms. Equally, we reformulate this definition in another words as follows: an S-act Ms is referred to as hollow if whenever N1,N2 are subacts of Ms and N1 ∪N2 = Ms implies either N1=Ms or N2= Ms. Conditions under which subacts are inheriting the property of the Hollow act have been examined. As well as the condition on the quotient subact to be Hollow act was studied. Other properties of the small subact differ from those properties which were early studied by the author are investigated. In the interests of simplicity, the relationship between hollow acts and cyclic act is considered. As a consequence, conditions to coincide those classes are shown. Ultimately, the notion of the Hollow act was used to study when the endomorphism monoid will be local.
This study examines the use of speech acts in the United Nations General Assembly Resolution number 377 A (V). Using Bach’s (2003) speech acts categorizations, the study aims to identify the ...illocutionary and perlocutionary acts used in the resolution as it aims to examine how the resolution is constructed and interpreted. The study reveals that the resolution incorporates instances of directive, constative and commissive illocutionary acts. The perlocutionary effects of the directive illocutionary acts comprise instructing, advising, urging, requesting and recommending; the perlocutionary effects of the constative illocutionary acts include reaffirming, recognizing, and stating; and the perlocutionary effects of the commissive illocutionary acts encompass assuring and inviting. It is also found that the resolution is constructed using two structural patterns: the constative-directive pattern to recognize accountability then provide regulative directives (herewith, it shall be that) and the commissive-constative-directive pattern to renew commitment, recognize responsibilities and provide regulative directives. The study furthermore reveals that the resolution encompasses high degree of imposition in the regulatory directive illocutionary acts, but the level of imposition varied when addressing entities. The resolution comprises high degree of imposition in addressing the General Assembly, the Secretary General and committees but low (weakened) degree of imposition in addressing the Security Council, which reflects different power relations in discourse.
Speech acts which belongs to the field of pragmatics carrying a concept that when people say something, they perform an action. The study aims at investigating speech acts in a documentary film ...entittled the Tinder Swindler. There have been various research on speech acts in movies, but there is a lack of research on this topic which carries a documentary film as the center of attention. A qualitative research method is employed in the research using a document review as the data collection technique and descriptive and interpretative technique to analyze the data. The finding suggests that representative category dominates the utterances in the film taking 74% occurance. Hopefully, this study will fill the research gap and enrich the collection of studies on speech acts.
This work introduces a methodology and research tool (DART) that make it possible to carry out advanced corpus pragmatics research using dialogue corpora enriched with pragmatics-relevant ...annotations. It first explores the general use of spoken corpora for pragmatics research, as well as issues revolving around their representation and annotation, and then goes on to describe the resources required for such an annotation process. Based on data from three different corpora, ranging from highly constrained, task-oriented, ones (SPAADIA Trainline & Trains 93) to unconstrained dialogues (Switchboard), it next presents an in-depth discussion and illustration of the potential contributions of syntax, semantics, and semantico-pragmatics towards pragmatic force. This is followed by a description of the largely automatic annotation process itself.
Abstract What role do linguistic cues on a surface and contextual level have in identifying the intention behind an utterance? Drawing on the wealth of studies and corpora from the computational task ...of dialog act classification, we studied this question from a cognitive science perspective. We first reviewed the role of linguistic cues in dialog act classification studies that evaluated model performance on three of the most commonly used English dialog act corpora. Findings show that frequency‐based, machine learning, and deep learning methods all yield similar performance. Classification accuracies, moreover, generally do not explain which specific cues yield high performance. Using a cognitive science approach, in two analyses, we systematically investigated the role of cues in the surface structure of the utterance and cues of the surrounding context individually and combined. By comparing the explained variance, rather than the prediction accuracy of these cues in a logistic regression model, we found that (1) while surface and contextual linguistic cues can complement each other, surface linguistic cues form the backbone in human dialog act identification, (2) with word frequency statistics being particularly important for the dialog act, and (3) the similar trends across corpora, despite differences in the type of dialog, corpus setup, and dialog act tagset. The importance of surface linguistic cues in dialog act classification sheds light on how both computers and humans take advantage of these cues in speech act recognition.
