A canine of Megantereon whitei (Broom, 1937), a large representative of the genus Megantereon from Trlica Cave in Montenegro, a multilayered mammal locality with traces of hominine activity, is ...described. The specimen was found in Bed 9 of the section during excavations in 2010-2014. This record reflects the first penetration of the African species M. whitei into the Balkans. The mammal fauna from Trlica (TRL11-TRL10, 1.8-1.5 Ma) includes the Eurasian species M. cultridens, represented by a canine found in Bed 10.

Siberia's Lake Baikal region is an archaeologically unique and emerging area of hunter-gatherer research, offering insights into the complexity, variability, and dynamics of long-term culture change. ...The exceptional quality of archaeological materials recovered there facilitates interdisciplinary studies whose relevance extends far beyond the region. The Baikal Archaeology Project-one of the most comprehensive studies ever conducted in the history of subarctic archaeology-is conducted by an international multidisciplinary team studying Middle Holocene (about 9,000 to 3,000 years B.P.) hunter-gatherers of the region. Funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the project includes scholars in archaeology, physical anthropology, ethnography, molecular biology, geophysics, geochemistry, and paleoenvironmental studies. This book presents the current team's research findings on questions about long-term patterns of hunter-gatherer adaptive strategies. Grounded in interdisciplinary approaches to primary research questions of cultural change and continuity over 6,000 years, the project utilizes advanced research methods and integrates diverse lines of evidence in making fundamental and lasting contributions to hunter-gatherer archaeology.

Presented and discussed here is a burial with a relatively rich array of grave goods dating from the Early Avar period found in an area known as Szöcske-szántók lying north of Bonyhád (County Tolna). ...On the testimony of the finds recovered from the burial, the grave can be assigned to the Early Avar period, to the late 6th–early 7th century. An element taken from a Byzantine censer that was repurposed to serve as a purse clasp and the silver bowl obviously originated from a looted church in Byzantium’s Balkanic province and were the possessions of a person who had participated in the Avars’ Balkanic campaigns or who had contact with these individuals.
En el último período del Bronce Final se configuran en el Sureste ibérico una serie de asentamientos de gran entidad y dinamismo interno caracterizados por una ordenación inicial dispersa, ...materializada después en un urbanismo polinuclear y una destacada organización sociopolítica que pervive durante la Edad del Hierro. En este contexto, este artículo analiza el desarrollo de ese tipo de patrón de ocupación sobre diferentes complejos poblacionales establecidos a lo largo de la cuenca del Segura, profundizando especialmente en nuevos datos procedentes del Castellar de Librilla que arrojan luz sobre el desarrollo de su estructura espacial intraurbana. Las zonas de habitat detectadas en las recientes intervenciones arqueológicas, algunas delimitadas por sistemas defensivos de envergadura, confirman las transformaciones que, desde el Bronce Final hasta el Ibérico Pleno, se producen en su configuración interna. Estos episodios de reestructuración y sinecismo urbanístico evidencian los procesos de adaptación que estos asentamientos polinucleares desarrollaron en el marco de las cambiantes dinámicas territoriales y culturales de la región durante el I milenio a.C.
Building Colonialism draws together the relationship between archaeology and history in East Africa using techniques of artefact, building, spatial and historical analyses to highlight the existence ...of, and accordingly the need to conserve, the urban centres of Africa's more recent past. The study does this by exploring the physical remains of European activity and the way that the construction of harbour towns directly reflects the colonial mission of European powers in the nineteenth century in Tanzania and Kenya. Based on fieldwork which recorded and analysed the buildings and monuments within these towns it compares the European creations to earlier Swahili urban design and explores the way European commercial trade systems came to dominate East Africa. Based on the kind of Urban Landscape Analyses carried out in the UK and Ireland, Building Colonialism looks at the social and spatial implications of the towns on the Indian Ocean coast which contain centres of derelict and unused buildings dating from East Africa's nineteenth-century colonial era. The book begins by concentrating upon towns in Tanzania and Kenya which were the key entry points into Africa for the nineteenth-century colonial regimes and compares these to later French and Italian colonies and discusses contemporary approaches to the conservation of colonial built heritage and the difficulties faced in ensuring valid participatory protection of the urban heritage resource.
