Three experiments were conducted to examine the effectiveness of different forms of tactile stimulation, probe and stream, and interstimulus intervals (ISI) in producing habituation in the polypoid ...sessile stage of the jellyfish Aurelia aurita. Results from Experiment 1 showed that polyps significantly decreased their responsiveness to both forms of tactile stimulation with 30-s ISI across 60 trials. Response to a novel stimulus indicated that the response decrement had not been due to fatigue. When the ISI was lengthened to 6 min in Experiment 2, response to the probe form of tactile stimulation did not significantly decrease across 20 trials. Using an ISI of 1 min in Experiment 3, response to the probe form of tactile stimulation decreased significantly across 40 trials. A significant increase in response to the original stimulus (dishabituation) following presentation of a novel stimulus indicated that response decrement was due to habituation or a habituation-like process rather than simple effector fatigue or sensory adaptation.

Tintinophile reconnu (il abandonna en cours de route ses études de lettres classiques pour tenter de rédiger une thèse sur Hergé sous le haut patronage de Roland Barthes), compagnon de la première ...heure de François Schuiten avec qui il imagina l'incroyable série des Cités Obscures, auteur de romans, d'essais, de biographies sur des sujets aussi variés que le manga, Jacques Derrida ou Paul Valéry, Benoît Peeters a certes réussi à se faire un grand nom dans le monde de l'écrit mais il est tout de même passé à côté de sa première vocation : il rêvait d'être chef. Même si la cuisine est sérieuse et que Benoît ne prend pas son apprentissage à la légère, c'est avec humour et distance qu'il se souvient de ses débuts dans un monde dans lequel finalement trop rares furent ceux à reconnaître son talent de chef.Ce livre préfacé par Pierre Gagnaire est aussi celui de l'amitié que Benoît a eu pour tant de chefs qu'il considère comme des artistes parfois malheureux comme lui le fut quand ses parents lui coupèrent les vivres parce qu'il n'étudiait pas assez sérieusement et renonça à présenter Normal Sup. Cette arrivée rocambolesque à Salt Lake City marque bien l'esprit d'aventure et l'ironie qui ont fait le style de Pierre Christin.
