This paper proposes a wireless power transfer with automatic feedback control of load resistance transformation to maintain high efficiency over wide variations of coupling current and load current. ...The receiver (Rx) first determines the desired current level of transmitter (Tx) coil such that the receiver-side converter can transform the load resistance into optimum effective resistance, based on load current and Tx-to-Rx distance information. The determined Tx coil current data are sent to the transmitter, which then adjusts the Tx coil current accordingly. In this way, the effective resistance transformed by the receiver-side converter remains optimum under the variations of distance and load current. One of the advantages of the proposed automatic feedback control is faster response and simple hardware because it does not use operating point sweep and observation. The receiver-side switching converter also incorporates the ability to send data from receiver to transmitter by modulating the duty cycle of converter at data frequency, eliminating the need for separate RF communication hardware. This proposed communication does not require shunt current dissipation from dc output to ground, resulting in low loss. Experimental result demonstrates that the system maintains high efficiency under wide variations of coupling and load current.
Real‐time automated drone‐based crack detection can be used for efficient building damage assessment. This paper proposes an automated real‐time crack detection method based on a drone. Using a ...lightweight classification algorithm, a lightweight segmentation algorithm, a high‐precision segmentation algorithm, and a crack width measurement algorithm, the cracks are classified, roughly segmented, finely segmented, and the maximum width is extracted. A crack information‐assisted drone flight automatic control algorithm for automatic crack detection guides the drone toward the crack position. The effectiveness of the crack detection algorithm and the crack information‐assisted drone flight automatic control algorithm was tested on two different datasets, a two‐story building, and a 16‐m‐high shaking table test building. The results show that crack detection can be finished in real‐time during the flight. Using the proposed method can significantly improve the MIoU of crack edge detection and the accuracy of maximum crack width measurement under the non‐ideal shooting conditions of the actual inspection situation by automatically approaching the vicinity of the crack.

This paper deals with the output tracking problem of a MIMO system subjected to a class of actuator faults and unmatched perturbations. The proposed methodology is based on high order sliding mode ...observation and identification techniques. A dynamic sliding surface is proposed using a backstepping-like design strategy in order to counteract the effects of the unmatched perturbations. Whereas a continuous sliding mode control is designed to steer the states toward the sliding surface. The identified value of the fault is injected to alleviate the control gain while accomplishing fault accommodation. As a consequence, the chattering is attenuated. A simulation example for a 3-DOF helicopter highlights the efficiency of the present method.

In this paper, the problem of robust fault estimation observer design for continuous-time switched systems subject to unknown input is investigated. Firstly, based on the average dwell-time method ...and the switched Lyapunov function technique, an unknown input observer is designed for the augmented switched system by eliminating the unknown input, which can guarantee that the error system is globally uniformly asymptotically stable with a prescribed H∞ performance index. Next, the method is extended to the measurement disturbances case. Finally, an example is presented to illustrate the design and efficiency of the proposed fault estimation observer technique.

This paper presents a comparison between indirect methods for assessing the buildability of 3D printed cementitious materials, including constant rotational velocity (CRV) or constant shear rate ...(CSR) test using rotational rheometry, unconfined uniaxial compression test (UUCT), a newly proposed confined uniaxial compression test (CUCT), and fast penetration test. The experimental program was conducted on the extruded samples of six printable mortars and two printable concretes with various rheological behavior achieved by the use of different additives and admixtures. Predictions of the material failure and the stability failure in hollow cylindrical structures are provided and compared with the results of the direct printing test. Benefits and disadvantages of the employed test methods are discussed, also taking into consideration a perspective of their use for automated in-situ control of the materials' buildability.

The problem of designing state observers for reaction systems whose convergence rate is faster than the standard asymptotic observers 7 is addressed in this paper. It is assumed that the reaction ...functions are known and that there are more measurements than “independent” reactions. If the unmeasurable state enters linearly in the reaction functions we propose an observer that converges in finite-time, under very weak excitation assumptions. If this dependence is nonlinear, we additionally assume that there is an element of the reaction functions vector that depends only on one unmeasurable state and that these functions are strictly monotonic. Under these conditions, a state observer that ensures exponential convergence of the states that appear in the reaction functions is designed. For the unmeasurable states that do not appear in these functions, the convergence is similar to the one of the asymptotic observers.

This paper deals with the design of resilient Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control (CACC) for homogeneous vehicle platoons in which communication is vulnerable to Denial-of-Service (DOS) attacks. We present a controller tuning procedure based on linear matrix inequalities (LMI) that maximizes the resiliency to DOS attacks, while guaranteeing performance and string stability. The design procedure returns controller gains and gives a lower bound on the maximum allowable number of successive packet dropouts. A numerical example is employed to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

In this paper an adaptive energy management strategy (EMS) based on fuzzy logic and the optimal sizing for a tramway with a hybrid energy storage system (ESS) combining batteries (BT) and supercapacitors (SC) are presented. The EMS applies a sliding window to estimate the forward energy consumption and adapt the instantaneous power target for BT and SC. The hybrid ESS sizing is obtained by an optimization with multi-objective genetic algorithms (GA). The fitness functions are expressed in economic terms, and correspond to the costs of the energy absorbed from the catenary as well as the operation cost of the hybrid ESS (investment and cycling cost). The selected case study is the tramway of Seville, which operates in zones with and without catenary. The aim is to minimize the daily operating cost of the tramway taking into account the BT and SC degradation approach (cycling) and fulfilling the performance of the tramway in the catenary-less zone. The proposed approach (adaptive EMS and optimal sizing) is compared with the current solution in the tramway (SC-based) and with a hybrid ESS managed by a rule-based EMS (RB-EMS) in terms of daily operating cost and energy harnessing during regenerative braking phase. The proposed approach show cost reductions up to 25.5% (from SC-based), 6.2% (from hybrid ESS with RB-EMS) and a global efficiency around 84.4%.
