This paper discusses the value of context in theory development in information systems (IS) research. We examine how prior research has incorporated context in theorizing and develop a framework to ...classify existing approaches to contextualization. In addition, we expound on a decomposition approach to contextualization and put forth a set of guidelines for developing context-specific models. We illustrate the application of the guidelines by constructing and comparing various context-specific variations of the technology acceptance model (TAM)-i.e., the decomposed TAM that incorporates interaction effects between context-specific factors, the extended TAM with context-specific antecedents, and the integrated TAM that incorporates mediated moderation and moderated mediation effects of context-specific factors. We tested the models on 972 individuals in two technology usage contexts: a digital library and an agile Web portal. The results show that the decomposed TAM provides a better understanding of the contexts by revealing the direct and interaction effects of context-specific factors on behavioral intention that are not mediated by the TAM constructs of perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. This work contributes to the ongoing discussion about the importance of context in theory development and provides guidance for context-specific theorizing in IS research.

This paper focuses on the meaning-making process as embedded in the situation in which it takes place. It puts forward the key question of what kind of knowledge is relevant to understanding. Thus, ...there are three central notions in the framework discussed: context, contextualization and context change. The paper is formulated against the background of a theory of metapragmatics, and it is in line with interactional sociolinguistics, as well as cultural linguistics. The results and findings will contribute to the on-going methodological discussions on contexts and contextualization and demonstrate that under certain conditions some external factors may prove to be very strong and determinant. Politically loaded perception and construction of meanings may be decisive in foregrounding some meanings. The paper will show that the dominating political viewpoint in a certain period of time and place may act as a driving force which foregrounds certain meanings and manages a certain way of understanding of texts/utterances. Contextualization can go wrong, and misplacing utterances in contexts may lead to social misunderstandings. As a conclusion, it is stressed that further investigation of context change is a valuable heuristic approach in the metapragmatic and discourse sensitive dimension in linguistic analyses. Conclusions about the samples under discussion can also motivate a deeper consideration of social effects of misunderstandings to protect us from conflicts.
The technologies evolution impacts how information is produced and consumed by users. This article discusses the shifting of hadith eyes while shaking hands and the phenomenon of changing the practice of shaking hands to elbow greetings initiated by the Indonesian government in 2020. ...Sri Mulyani (Minister of Finance) and Ma'ruf Amin (Vice President) practiced how to shake hands during the Corona Virus outbreak with elbow greetings, considering Indonesia occupies the first position in the spread of Coronavirus in Southeast Asia. The elbow greeting is opposed to the Sunnah, and the Prophet Muhammad taught his people to shake hands by shaking hands by the hadith of the Prophet narrated by Abu Daud. This paper uses the qualitative descriptive method of Maqashid Sharia theory, namely contextualizing verses with social conditions, which aims to find benefits and reduce harm in Indonesian society. The results of research using Maqashid Sharia theory in the phenomenon of elbow greeting practice have not been well elaborated so the practice of elbow greetings has not been able to minimize the spread of the Corona Virus in Indonesia with positive koban data and deaths continue to increase. The criteria for goodness and mudharatan in changing the practice of shaking hands to elbow greetings were not met, considering that there are some more important and precarious 'uzur elements that are not implemented by the Indonesian government.
Aceh Province is a special area. Acts No. 11 of 2006 concerning theGovernment of Aceh provides freedom in terms of managing the government, especially regarding the implementation of Islamic law in ...Aceh. Islamic Shari’a isnot only understood as a rule that regulates education, but also about regulation ingovernment management in Aceh. One part of the government is about compilingregional spending in Aceh. This research is focused on budgeting which will becontextualized with Acehnese values, namely the local value of implementingIslamic law in Aceh. Priority indicators for a budget arrangement so that theyfulfill the requirements as ideal budgets according to Islam (Islamic budget ideal). In terms of substance, this research is classified into qualitative research, whichfocuses on the depth and sharpness of the study. So if more quantitative researchis on a broad, broad framework, the qualitative study is digging, swooping, anddeep. Islamic budgeting is a value that in this context wants to be included in thebudget in South Aceh. Based on the results of the study it was found that in terms ofthe determination of post-expenditure it is possible to include the values of IslamicShari’a. In this case the post expenditure is based on maqasid as-Syari’iyah. Interms of revenue, only zakat, shadaqah, and infaq are possible to be contextualized. As for ‘usyr, rikaz, etc., it is not possible because regional revenues from the fiscalside are regulated so rigid in state regulations
This paper discusses the contextualization of mustahiq zakat seen from the changes in its meanings which have expanded to riqâb, ghârim, sabîlillâh and ibn al-sabîl, while other meaning of mustaḥiq ...is relatively static such as faqîr, miskîn, 'âmil, mu' allaf. Practically, the concept of mustahiq zakat is contextualized by various zakat managers, one of which is Laznas (National Amil Zakat Institute) Nurul Hayat Surabaya. Mustaḥiq zakat which refers to the poor and âmil is contextualized according to the general meaning in classical and contemporary fiqh. While the mustahiq zakat of mu'allaf is contextualized to be limited to people who have converted to Islam, while the concept of mu'allaf in fiqh includes people who have not converted to Islam but have social potential and strength. The mustahiq zakat of riqâb, ghârim, sabîlillâh and ibn as-sabîl are contextualized widely beyond the meaning in fiqh generally. The contextualization of mustahiq zakat by Laznas Nurul Hayat shows that the benefit of humans (maṣâliḥ al-'ibâd) is the main consideration in zakat management, in addition to the contextualization of mustaḥiq zakat is proof that changes in situations, conditions, environment and socio-culture influence the changes in Islamic law. The conclusion in this paper uses the theory of change in Islamic law and uses a normative approach which aim to reveal the truth values in the practice of zakat in society which can be actualized in the future.
This paper identifies challenges facing the development of contextual theory in Information Systems research. The IS literature is examined to identify the variation of approaches through which IS ...research accounts for contextual influences in the formation of IS phenomena. The literature review reveals issues that require methodological and theoretical attention. These concern the generalization of context-specific research findings; the partiality of theory due to trade-offs of scale and detail; the development of sociomaterial perspectives of contextual influences on IS phenomena; and the challenge posed to contextual explanation from ontologies that give primacy to processes of continuous change over existing entities. From the exploration of these issues, comparative research is suggested as a promising approach to generalization; an argument is made for research framing with explicit consideration of scale of the context domain under inquiry to allow for the comparison and complementarity of research findings; alternative theoretical perspectives of context related with theories of technology and theories of action are identified; and directions toward the development of a sociomaterial perspective of context are suggested.

Legal genres are situation-sensitive and one same genre may take different structural and functional patterns according to the historical context within which it is situated. Judicial opinions of ...ancient China, for example, look like a totally different genre in contrast with the language of modern Chinese judicial documents. It is not uncommon that county magistrates’ (ancient Chinese judges) writing considerably downplays the task of reasoning and argumentation and becomes fully devoted to the provision of emotional narratives regarding defendants’ wrong-doings and to the meta-communication of imperial ideological values to grassroots. This paper looks into why ideology is a key concern of ancient Chinese judicial writing, what concrete ideological values are actually invoked and how they are interactively disseminated. The analytical framework combines the notion of contextualization (Gumperz, 1982), interactive framing (Tannen, 1993), and footing (Goffman, 1981). Through a nuanced interpretation of the relatedness of imperial ideological values and judicial language structures, the authors attempt to reveal how ancient judicial opinions are built as speech activities of performing identities and activities of presenting ideological stances and beliefs.

Temporary dwellings constitute a crucial step of recovery and reconstruction in the post-disaster aftermath. The importance of temporary dwellings stems from the role they play in incubating people ...and providing a habitable environment while the outcomes of a disaster are being assessed and then rectified. The main aim of this paper is to set a series of guideline recommendations which can lead the process of successfully providing, designing and constructing temporary dwellings of quality while being sensitive to contextual issues and while aiming for significant cost, efforts and time savings.
The methodology adopted by this paper is based on the multidisciplinary investigation of the subjects discussed. The paper takes into consideration that the issues under examination are multifaceted while being associated with certain needs and having their own implications and criteria to be successfully achieved. To this end, the paper’s methodology elaborates on the discussions made in terms of economic, socio-cultural, ecologic, temporal and technical considerations and circumstances. The research methodology employed in this paper also strives to be comprehensive in the sense of covering a wide range of topics on the qualitative, managerial, contextual and best practices’ fronts. The scope of discussions widens up to include basics and general concepts and then narrows down to focus in depth on the investigated subjects.
In employing the adopted methodology of research, the paper commences by a literature review which aims to set the basic terms and concepts. Consecutively, the paper sets the basic foundations to the provision, design and construction of temporary dwellings. The discussion widens in scope to analyze the qualitative aspects related to the management of temporary dwellings. This part constitutes the basic guidelines which support the following discussions made in the paper. As the subjects keep on unfolding, the concept of contextualization is elaborated with the issue of ‘sensitivity’ to local conditions and circumstances as a prime focus. The paper finally proceeds to analyzing a number of important qualitative aspects related to the design and construction of temporary dwellings with a special focus on temporary houses. The discussion is emphasized through examining several examples to clarify the various needs and implications of the qualitative aspects under investigation. The overall research outcome of the paper is expressed in a number of findings and recommendations in correspondence to the paper structure.

The contributors to the Superdiversity book symposium welcome the myriad ways that scholars from a variety of research fields and social scientific disciplines have adopted the concept across varying ...scales, sites and social phenomena. Each writer nevertheless stresses the need to place any application of the term, descriptively or analytically, within specific social, political and historical contexts. Superdiversity appears very different depending upon an array of conditions - hence we observe a variety of context-dependent superdiversities. This point holds too for categories - especially ones drawn from colonial histories - that comprise differing configurations of superdiversity. These are also highly contextual. It is suggested that the superdiversity concept helps us to "unsee" purportedly fixed, uni-dimensional categories like ethnicity and to place more emphasis on multiple, intersectional combinations of categories. The re-thinking of categories and their contexts might also help us imagine possible superdiversity futures.
