We hypothesize that parallel corpora as well as machine translation outputs contain many literal translations that are the result of transferring the constructions of the source language to the ...target language. When translating passive expressions from English to Spanish, there are several constructions available, however, both automatic and human (if of low quality) translations tend to select the periphrastic structure, which is the literal construction. The objective of this article is to make use of strategies trained on monolingual corpora to translate English passive expressions into Spanish so as to verify whether unsupervised translation with monolingual corpora benefits syntactic diversity. Special attention will be given to the monolingual-based strategy relying on dependency-based contextualization. The results of the experiments carried out show that the methods relying on monolingual corpora tend to offer more non-literal translations (middle-voice) than those trained on parallel corpora.
As the Ubiquitous Power Internet of Things (UPIoT) is being developed, the data volume collected by various terminals such as smart electricity meters is increasing daily. The efficient extraction of ...information from massive data and the provision of value-added services to users, power grids, and market entities are crucial aspects and research directions. A data analysis and application framework for smart meter data based on cloud-fog computing and data contextualization is established, and a data contextualization model based on three-dimensional (3d) maturity analysis of industrial power users is proposed to evaluate the power consumption characteristics of users from the three aspects of the load level, power consumption behavior, and interaction. The results of a case study show that this model allows power grid operators to understand quickly and intuitively the load behavior pattern and power demand of industrial power users, thereby enabling an efficient and accurate assessment of the power supply and an ability to provide value-added services.
Actualmente existen múltiples formas de abordar metodológicamente el aprendizaje en entornos bilingües, que pueden ser observadas en los centros educativos de todo el país. No obstante, la falta de ...unificación de criterios sobre programación de las situaciones de aprendizaje y la implementación de las mismas suele generar unos resultados poco concluyentes sobre su efectividad o solidez y hace necesaria la reivindicación de un plan estratégico estandarizable y extensible a toda la red de centros educativos. Existen diferentes factores que resuenan con mayor fuerza en los resultados y que pueden ser observados en el presente estudio, al igual que en otras investigaciones previas. Así, nos hemos planteado atender cuestiones tales como el grado de motivación y la autoestima/confianza de los aprendices, el enfoque metodológico y la transferencia de aprendizajes a los contextos no formal e informal. El estudio que se presenta se ha desarrollado en un centro educativo público de la isla de Tenerife que lleva a cabo un proyecto AICLE. Para ello, se ha dispuesto de la participación de 121 alumnos y alumnas de la etapa de educación secundaria. En el grupo participante predomina el alumnado de nacionalidad española y una gran mayoría no había formado parte de un grupo CLIL en la etapa educativa o curso anterior. Los resultados obtenidos en esta investigación han mostrado un balance negativo que será comentado posteriormente. Por último, se incluirán unas conclusiones generales a modo de reflexión y cuya intención sirve para replantear una serie de principios que no se están abordando adecuadamente.

But can people simply decide to believe in a religion because of the benefits it reportedly delivers? Based on extensive fieldwork among Pentecostal men in Caracas, Venezuela, this rich urban ethnography seeks an explanation for the explosion of Evangelical Protestantism, unraveling the cultural and personal dynamics of Evangelical conversion to show how and why these men make the choice to convert, and how they come to have faith in a new system of beliefs and practices.
Um dos maiores obstáculos para aprender Física no Ensino Médio é, segundo o relato dos professores, sua abordagem matemática. Neste trabalho propomos uma atividade que integra conteúdos de física e ...matemática, de forma a tornar a função quadrática significativa para os estudantes. Relatamos as atividades planejadas e aplicadas em sala de aula, com alunos do 1° ano do Ensino Médio de uma escola pública situada no interior do RS. As atividades referiam-se a produção de espelhos parabólicos em dois modelos diferentes, e na sequência a construção do conceito de função polinomial de 2o grau (a chamada função quadrática). Foram utilizados tanto o espaço da sala de aula como o espaço da casa dos estudantes, permitindo vivenciar a aprendizagem durante o tempo que a atividade durou. Trabalhamos com a metodologia construtivista. Concluímos que tal classe de atividades, denominadas hands-on, realmente conseguem trazer significância para os conceitos normalmente abordados de forma abstrata nos livros didáticos.
One of the biggest obstacles to learn physics in High School is, according teachers’ account, their mathematical approach. In this paper we propose an activity that integrates Physics and Math contents, in order to make quadratic function significant for the students. We report the activities planned and implemented in the classroom, with High School 1st year students in a public school located within the RS. The activities referred to the production of parabolic mirrors in two different models, followed by the construction of the concept of 2nd degree polynomial (the so called quadratic function). Therefore, we used both the classroom space and students’ home space, allowing experience learning during the period that lasted the activity. We work under a constructivist methodology. We conclude that such activities class, called hands-on, can really bring significance to the concepts usually covered abstractly in textbooks.
Thanks to digital technologies, information about customer needs and contexts is becoming accessible ever more easily and service providers are more closely connected to customers. This development ...enables services to act on behalf of customers and to proactively initiate the customer interactions. Such services are so-called proactive smart services (PASS) and are a subgroup of smart services. Research suggests that service providers often face the challenge to gain customers' acceptance of innovative services. In response to this call for action and the change in customer interaction, which can have far-reaching consequences in the lives of customers, we examined the antecedents that explain customers' acceptance of PASS using a contextualized approach. Hence, we identified PASS-specific antecedents, developed a contextualized acceptance model (UTAUT2-PASS) while drawing from general acceptance theory, and validated it empirically. A comparison of our contextualized model with UTAUT2 as an established yet uncontextualized model confirmed the outperformance of our contextualized model. Our findings advance the academic understanding of PASS and help service providers design PASS for customer acceptance.
This article examines some methodological issues relating to an embedded case study design adopted in a comparative cross-national study of working parents covering three levels of social context: ...the macro level; the workplace level; and the individual level. It addresses issues of generalizability, in particular the importance of criteria for the selection of cases in the research design and analysis phases. To illustrate the benefits of the design the article focuses on the level of individual biographies. Three exemplars of biographical trajectories and experiences are presented and discussed. It is argued that a multi-tiered design and a comparative biographical approach can add to the understanding of individual experience by placing it in context and thus yield knowledge that is of general sociological relevance by demonstrating the interrelatedness of agency and structure.

The paper contains an “asymmetric commentary” on a philosophical text by means of its subsequent placing in the educational contexts. The first of them is related to an explication of the cultural ...mission of a pedagogical project suggested by the article. The second one is aimed at the analysis of the pedagogical action of the text determined by the writing/reading samples placed in it. The third one performs the function of a counter-text problematizing a pedagogical program of the article being commented. The exhaustion of orientation to symbolic identification with invariant symbols of culture is substantiated. Educational transformation is connected with overcoming the methodological individualism. Education is transformed into a subject of public collaboration. The emphasis in collective work has to be placed not on establishment of the coordinated definition situation, but on the conflict of its interpretations, collision of practical positions and detection of qualitatively various educational prospects. The commentary by means of the trial-and-error method also researches a possibility of building a demonstrative description able to cause dereification effects in the writing/reading processes. It is supposed that deconstructive writing can become a major element of students’ academic competence in the process of university training.

Context-aware computing is used to improve the abilities of smart devices and is increased by smart applications. In this paper, context-aware for the internet of things middleware (CAIM) architecture is used for developing a rule-based system using CA-RETE algorithm. The objective of context-aware systems are concentrated on 1) context reasoning methodologies and analyzing how the technologies will involve enhancing the high-level context data, 2) framework of context reasoning system, 3) implementation of CA-RETE algorithm for predicting gestational diabetes mellitus in healthcare applications.
A contextualização a partir do cotidiano é defendida por documentos e referenciais teóricos da Educação Matemática e associada aos princípios da Educação do Campo, por se considerar que ela oferece ...sentido e permite valorizar a realidade dos estudantes. No entanto, a segunda filosofia de Wittgenstein aponta que realidades diferentes são jogos de linguagens que possuem no máximo semelhanças e não uma relação imediata. Nesse sentido, esta pesquisa buscou perceber as relações que os professores de matemática de uma escola do campo fazem entre as realidades da matemática formal e do cotidiano. Os professores apontam problemas em suas formações, tanto com relação ao conteúdo, quanto em discussões sobre contextualização, que surge mais como um discurso. Mas para além do discurso é possível perceber em falas dos professores que estes entendem que alguns conteúdos são de difícil contextualização, mas nem por isso devem ser preteridos.
