The paper details on the use of TED video-based material as a didactic tool in developing subtitling skills in university students. Focus is laid on the training of language specialists in ...audiovisual translation courses taught at G.E. Palade UMPhST of Targu Mures, with a triggered civic engagement by means of taking part in a community subtitling project while contributing to making “ideas worth spreading” accessible to viewership.
In the context of translator training, subtitling has already been included into some translation curricula as an independent discipline of study aiming at training future subtitlers. Several ...scholars have discussed about the benefits from using subtitling as an active tool to develop students’ translation competence in generic translation courses. However, there are few studies which focused on the use of active subtitling as a didactic tool in the field of translator training from a generic perspective. This article presents a descriptive study on the application of subtitling skills in generic translation courses which is carried out in the context of translator training at BA level in Spain. The main objective of this descriptive study is to present an overview on the use of subtitling in the translation classroom and analyze its level of implementation in non-audiovisual translation courses as a didactic resource that allows to develop the students’ translation competence. Thus, the degree of the inclusion of subtitling into translation curricula at different Spanish universities is presented by providing data collected from questionnaires to both translation students and trainers at BA level. In this way, questionnaires not only provide relevant data about the degree of inclusion of this didactic tool in generic translation courses but also intend to collect students and trainers’ experiences, opinions and expectations concerning the use of subtitling in a non-audiovisual translation context. Although the inclusion of subtitling into non-audiovisual translation courses is still quite low, the results of this study prove that subtitling leads to the activation of various general and specific competences in the translation classroom.
The seminal role of the Holmes/Toury map within translation studies has led to its use as a didactic tool although neither scholar envisaged this purpose originally. This paper proposes a ...complementary didactic model to reveal the interdisciplinary layers of research projects after positioning them on the Holmes/Toury map. A critical overview of how maps have evolved from descriptions of the field to having didactic purposes is given, and criticism of the Holmes/Toury map is reviewed to demonstrate its importance for the first positioning of a work. An investigation of eight sample theses indicates the current interdisciplinary research trends and suggests the need for a more refined didactic tool. The proposed model is introduced as a way to fill an evident gap. Its aim is to help students and researchers position their own and other academic work within translation studies to gain deeper awareness in this regard. By presenting a general model for researchers' use, its concrete application to two cases – a book-long and a shorter publication – and a discussion of its strengths and weaknesses, I argue that it is a useful didactic tool for obtaining a clearer overview of the interdisciplinarity typical for research in translation studies.

This paper aims at corroborating the mythological symmetry between two literary products, which functions as a core in the development of the interculturality in language learning. It also ...particularizes, by way of specific objectives, the different cultural referents that are explicitly stated in two literary works as good examples of the universal culture. It explores some mythological allusions in Shakespeare‟s “Puck” and in Guillén“Güije”, as a didactic tool of great value for the students‟ cultural and communicative development. Some mythological, cultural, and communicative-based activities are proposed for third year students of foreign languages at Camagüey University. The activities are devised from the integration of two subjects: English Practice and History of English speaking countries.
We have designed a didactic tool for teaching the reading of digital documentary texts in cycle 3 following the methodological framework of the design continued in use. While this framework shows how ...to design a first prototype, it says nothing about how to analyze user testing. That’s why we propose here a theorization of the methodology that we have developed to deal with feedback from teachers who tested this prototype. We have defined 15 indicators which allow us to inventory all these returns and to assess the usefulness, usability and acceptability of a didactic tool in order to improve it.
This article presents the results of studies devoted to assessing the survival of students' knowledge, regardless of their basic training. The study was conducted based on two groups of specialists, ...recertified under the program "Pharmacy management and economics" at the Pharmacy Department of Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University. Some of the specialists of the experimental groups had been previously trained at the Pharmacy Department of Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University in 2012-2013 using a new developed didactic tool named "Activity Book". According to the results obtained, the skills acquired by the specialists trained using on "Activity Book" in 2012-2013, were characterized by higher "survivability".
Since its emergence in the 1960s, the use of virtual reality (VR) has grown progressively. This wide dissemination of VR has allowed its application in an increasing number of disciplines, including ...education. It is well known that virtual laboratories (VLs), which base their use in VR technology, are very useful tools in both university and professional training. In this article, the main advantages and disadvantages of the use of modern VLs in teaching are analyzed. In addition, the design and development process that must be followed to appropriately create these VLs is described in detail, as well as a small-scale study of the perception that university teachers have about the use of VR in education. Lastly, the reasons why the implementation of VR is not currently as broad as it would be expected, given its proven potential in different fields, are discussed.
