The essay analyses and explores the concept of personal identity in the light not only of the already tested digital dimension but also of a further evolution of the Internet represented by the ...so-called metaverse to be understood as a convergence zone of interactive virtual spaces, located in cyberspace and accessible by users through an avatar with the function of representing individual identity, where the issue of digital identity and its protection assumes particular importance. In fact, overcoming the concepts of virtual reality and augmented reality, and as an evolution of ubiquitous computing, the construction of a being in the presence through social technology takes advantage of the interoperability between worlds and platforms, in a research environment that creates and interconnects information, subjects, avatars and objects.
This research aims to study the most critical elements of digital identity management to recognize the pattern and the requirements of their use and implementation. Further, an attempt is made to ...identify and prioritize the criteria and their relevant indicators of digital identity management in the form of a comprehensive framework. To this end a fuzzy multicriteria decision‐making approach was utilized. The framework focuses on a comprehensive perspective to consider digital identity and deals with compiling strategies and operational patterns based on the defined priorities. This applied research with a fundamental approach has a descriptive‐explanatory method as well. Through an in depth‐review of the extant literature and designing an instrument as well as semi‐structure interview the necessary data were collected. The research population consists of 10 experts. By reviewing the theoretical literature of the research, effective factors were identified and screened by the Fuzzy Delphi method leading to six main factors and 31 subfactors. Then, the collected data were analyzed through a hybrid technique known as FDANP (Fuzzy DEMATEL‐ANP) to determine the interactions between the factors and the subfactors and to weigh and prioritize them. The obtained results revealed that “strategic planning” is the most influential factor in digital identity management. Also, the subfactors namely “The use of the maturity model of digital identity management,” “commitment to the whole organization,” “integrity of digital identity management system with other systems,” “integrity of digital identity management program,” and “integrity of the two dimensions of identity management and access management” were ranked as the most influential subfactors of “strategic planning,” respectively. “Access management” was the most permeable factor in digital identity management. It means that this factor is the main problem and could be solved with the help of the influential factors. In addition, subfactors: “Access control to all resources only through the digital identity management system,” “Solution for access management of premium accounts,” “Multi‐factor authentication support,” “Access policy to all resources and information,” and “Determination of the manner of the user access to resources outside the organization” were ranked as the most permeable subfactors.

The field of digital identity innovation has grown significantly over the last 30 years, with over 6000 technology patents registered worldwide. However, many questions remain about who controls and ...owns our digital identity and intellectual property and, ultimately, where the future of digital identity is heading.
To investigate this further, this research mines digital identity patents and explores core themes such as identity, systems, privacy, security, and emerging fields like blockchain, financial transactions, and biometric technologies, utilizing natural language processing (NLP) methods including part-of-speech (POS) tagging, clustering, topic classification, noise reduction, and lemmatisation techniques. Finally, the research employs graph modelling and statistical analysis to discern inherent trends and forecast future developments.
The findings significantly contribute to the digital identity landscape, identifying key players, emerging trends, and technological progress. This research serves as a valuable resource for academia and industry stakeholders, aiding in strategic decision-making and investment in emerging technologies and facilitating navigation through the dynamic realm of digital identity technologies.
Studies have revealed that individuals' identities can be shaped not only offline but also online. However, the formation of online identity of students in higher education environments is complex. ...Empirical evidence has suggested that academics are interested in using social media to enhance their professional identity and reputation. The current study examined the effects of online social capital and social networking on the formation of graduate students' professional identity. Structural equation modeling was used to test the research hypotheses. The sample consisted of 298 graduate students from one leading public university and three private higher education centers in Iran. The results showed that online social networks in higher education environments could affect the construction of students' professional identity through online social capital as a mediator.

Whereas part of the world can benefit from the wonders of digital technologies, undocumented migrants, asylum seekers, and refugees are facing the rough reality of being “invisible” in society and ...ignored by governments. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the economic impact of the closure of the service industry and the impossibility to keep most of the informal work they perform place them into a limbo without income and unemployment benefits. They are denied formal support because of the lack of a legally recognized identity. For this type of humanitarian support, contemporary identities can offer a way out. Self-sovereign identities (SSI) can provide individuals ownership over their data and the ability to share this with others. The essence is that the owner determines whom they share their identity data with. They have the sole ownership of the identity data. As such, an SSI ensures privacy for undocumented persons. This would allow to provide support to those who are left behind by a lack of formal identity. In this article, we explore the possibility of SSI to assist undocumented individuals throughout the pandemic times. SSI can be used to interact with undocumented workers and to share all kinds of identity data, such as sharing the attestation of COVID-19 tests or the ability to donate money to those who are illegal without sacrificing their identity.
Cultural nuance, human behaviour and social identity require greater attention within the emerging smart city phenomenon. This special issue critically considers identity and urban culture as central ...to the smart city challenge. Current discourse on smart cities is obsessed with technological capability and development. Global rankings reduce cities to a one-dimensional business model and series of metrics. If the term ‘smart city’ is to have any enduring value, technology must be used to develop a city's unique cultural identity and quality of life for the future. The editorial reviews emerging research on the cultural dimensions of urban innovation and smart cities and places the six special issue papers within a theoretical context. Each paper critiques smart city theories in relation to the practical challenge of enhancing urban identity, quality and value at a range of scales and geographic contexts. Three main themes are used to frame the debate on smart cities and urban innovation: 1) local development histories, 2) face-to-face relationships and 3) local community scales. Each of these themes is lacking in current smart city approaches and requires innovative approaches to integrate into the smart city of tomorrow.

El problema actual es la dificultad de encontrar momentos de desvinculación grupal. No podemos eludir el factor adictivo de las redes sociales, ya que la necesidad humana de ser aceptados y validados concluye en una excesiva dependencia hacia la aprobación externa. Por ello es importante reflexionar sobre la veracidad de las imágenes compartidas y lo que está ocurriendo en realidad. The Metaverse is the digitization of the real world, supported by big data, AI, 5G, cloud computing, blockchain, encryption algorithm, perception technology, digital twin, virtual engine, and other ...technologies that interact with human behavior and thoughts in avatars through digital identity. Cracking the trust problem brought by the avatar depends on the privacy security and authentication technology for individuals using digital identities to enter the Metaverse. To accomplish personal domination of the avatar, metaverse users need privacy data feeding and emotion projection. They must be equipped with proprietary algorithms to process and analyze the complex data generated in adaptive interactions, which challenges the privacy security of user data in the Metaverse. Distinguishing the significance of different identifiers in personal identity generation while imposing different behavioral regulatory requirements on data processing levels may better balance the relationship between personal privacy security and digital identity protection and data utilization in the Metaverse. In response to digital identity issues, there is an objective need to establish a unified digital identity authentication system to gain the general trust of society. Further, the remedies for a right to personality can be applied to the scenario of unlawful infringement of digital identity and privacy security.
