The U.S. dollar's dominance seems under threat. The near collapse of the U.S. financial system in 2008-2009, political paralysis that has blocked effective policymaking, and emerging competitors such ...as the Chinese renminbi have heightened speculation about the dollar's looming displacement as the main reserve currency. Yet, asThe Dollar Trappowerfully argues, the financial crisis, a dysfunctional international monetary system, and U.S. policies have paradoxically strengthened the dollar's importance.
Eswar Prasad examines how the dollar came to have a central role in the world economy and demonstrates that it will remain the cornerstone of global finance for the foreseeable future. Marshaling a range of arguments and data, and drawing on the latest research, Prasad shows why it will be difficult to dislodge the dollar-centric system. With vast amounts of foreign financial capital locked up in dollar assets, including U.S. government securities, other countries now have a strong incentive to prevent a dollar crash.
Prasad takes the reader through key contemporary issues in international finance-including the growing economic influence of emerging markets, the currency wars, the complexities of the China-U.S. relationship, and the role of institutions like the International Monetary Fund-and offers new ideas for fixing the flawed monetary system. Readers are also given a rare look into some of the intrigue and backdoor scheming in the corridors of international finance.
The Dollar Trapoffers a panoramic analysis of the fragile state of global finance and makes a compelling case that, despite all its flaws, the dollar will remain the ultimate safe-haven currency.
Cinema's relationship with the voice is passionate and enduring - perhaps nowhere more so than in silent cinema. This article takes the Lara Feigel's experience of being supervised by Laura Marcus ...for a PhD on silent cinema as the basis for an exploration of sound and silence in film. Using Mladen Dolar's theory of the voice, it reads Leos Carax's Annette as a film fascinated by the tropes of silent cinema and specifically by its play with the presence and absence of the voice. If for Dolar the voice is a desired object, then in this case it's an object that can literally be transferred from character to character. In the end, Carax's promise is that the voice can be a vehicle of subjectivity after all.

In this article I investigate and discuss Mladen Dolar’s philosophy of the voice. In this regard a particular emphasis is put on showing how Dolar through an ingenious engagement with the workings of ...the voice in a select few of Kafka’s novellas and stories provides a striking account of several philosophical themes and problems. What is at stake is nothing short of the relation of being to nothingness and the question of human freedom.
This descriptive qualitative research focuses his study on the values of character education in Mimpi Sejuta Dolar Novel, and how to implement it in Indonesian language learning. The data of this ...research are (1) novel excerpts related to character education derived from liver, (2) novel quotations related to character education derived from thought, (3) novel excerpt related to character education derived from sports or kinesthetics, (4) novel excerpts related to character education derived from taste and initiative, and (5) implementation of character education in learning.
The energy relay dye, 4-(Dicyanomethylene)-2-methyl-6-(4-dimethylaminostyryl)-4H-pyran (DCM), was used with a near-infrared sensitizing dye, TT1, to increase the overall power conversion efficiency ...of a dye-sensitized solar cell (DSC) from 3.5% to 4.5%. The unattached DCM dyes exhibit an average excitation transfer efficiency (E̅ T E) of 96% inside TT1-covered, mesostructured TiO2 films. Further performance increases were limited by the solubility of DCM in an acetonitrile based electrolyte. This demonstration shows that energy relay dyes can be efficiently implemented in optimized dye-sensitized solar cells, but also highlights the need to design highly soluble energy relay dyes with high molar extinction coefficients.

Çin’in Wuhan şehrinde Aralık 2019’da ortaya çıkan pandemi küresel düzeyde ülkelerin ekonomilerini derinden etkilemiştir.
The aim of the study is to investigate the relationships between CDS, the BIST100 index, and the US Dollar/Turkish Lira (USD/TRY) exchange rate during the Covid-19 period. For this purpose, the study ...used the frequency domain causality test developed by Breitung and Candelon (2006). According to the results of the study, a bidirectional causal relationship was found between CDS and the BIST100 index. While this relationship took place in the short and medium term from CDS to BIST100 index, it was detected in the entire frequency range (in all periods) from BIST100 index to CDS. In other words, it can be stated that while the causality from CDS to BIST100 index is not permanent, causality from BIST100 index to CDS is permanent. Similarly, a bidirectional causality relationship was found between CDS and the USD/TRY exchange rate. While this relationship occurred in the short and medium term from CDS to USD/TRY exchange rate, it was detected in the entire frequency range (in all periods) from USD/TRY exchange rate to CDS. In other words, it can be stated that while the causality from CDS to USD/TRY exchange rate is not permanent, the causality from USD/TRY exchange rate to CDS is permanent.
In a video on Youtube, Peter Ablinger can be seen and heard performing his 2012 piece The Real as Imaginary (Das Wirkliche als Vorgestelltes). Loud static noise greatly complicates our understanding ...of a text being recited. In the interview following this performance, Ablinger says that 'one often has to take something away in order to achieve something new'. What then, does the listener get in return? This paper frames The Real as Imaginary within a general interest in the voice itself, outside of its intimate connection with meaning, where it appears as a sign for something or someone else. Drawing on the work of Mladen Dolar and others, it is argued that this notion of voice as voice is far from self-evident as its relationship with meaning extends well beyond speech. Subsequently, the work of Jean-Luc Nancy serves as a theoretical basis to reformulate this quest for voice as a search for a proper listening, a mode of attending to our aural surroundings generally suppressed in interpretation. The paper suggests that it is precisely within the obstruction of the latter that the possibility of the former is opened up: a process reflected in the twofold functioning of The Real as Imaginary's noise as both a wall (obstructing understanding) and a window (inviting listening). Indeed, Ablinger's work is said to make use of noise's disruptive potential in order to breach the automatic circuit between vocal expression and interpretation, drawing us towards the voice's highly elusive sonic presence.

The article presents and is an introduction to a theory of the voice, as it is put forth by Slavoj Žižek and Mladen Dolar, and in the discourse of psychoanalysis. It is developed as a reading of the ...‘incident in London’, where Žižek wanted to engage the audience of an academic conference in a performance of The Internationale. The article is thus also about a possible connection of singing and politics.
