High salt intake is known as a risk factor of childhood obesity. As family members share not only genes but also their diet habit, parents’ salt intake may affect to their children’s obesity. In this ...study, we investigated correlations between childhood obesity and parents’ or children’s sodium intakes based on a nationwide survey data. From the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data from 2014 to 2017, 802 boys and 657 girls aged 10–18 years, and their parents were included. BMI z-score and 24-hour urinary sodium excretion, which is estimated through Tanaka’s equation, were used to examine associations between obesity and sodium intakes. The BMI status and the prevalence of obesity between children and their parents showed strong positive correlations in both sexes (all p < 0.001). The urinary sodium excretion between children and their parents showed positive correlations in both sexes (all p < 0.05). Children with higher urinary sodium excretion showed higher BMI (in both sexes, p < 0.001) and higher parental obesity compared to those with lower urinary sodium excretion, however, statistical significances of the latter relationship were varied by sex. In conclusion, our study suggests close relationship between childhood obesity and their sodium intakes, which also correlate well with parental BMIs and diet behavior. Therefore, parental education and active participation could be crucial in regulating childhood obesity.

The fundamental purpose of education is to make people aware and to encourage them to freely and responsibly improve themselves. The first step of (self) shaping a person goes through the family, ...which has a significant role in mediating general human values, especially those of the highest natural values - morals. This work aims to examine students' perspectives on the role of the family in the transmission/mediation of moral values. The research participants are students of the first and second cycle of the Department of Pedagogy at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Sarajevo (N=100). Analyzing their perspective and life experience, we obtained results that indicate a high degree of concordance between the framework of pedagogical understandings of morality and how moral values are transmission/mediated in their families of orientation. Also, the results show that frequent family conversations are the basis for building moral knowledge, beliefs, behavior, and actions in children and youth.
Abstract With the aim of understanding the existing relationship between families and schools in relation to affective-sexual education (ASE), and using a mixed methodology, we conducted in a first ...phase a survey with 55 parents and 43 teachers in training of the Master’s program in Secondary Education and the Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education. Subsequently, we developed two discussion groups with 10 family members and 12 teachers. The results show what we have identified as points of convergence and agreement regarding the need for students, family members and teacher trainees to receive training in ASE, as well as divergences on how and by whom this training should be carried out. In conclusion, we proposed several final dimensions that we believe should be taken into account, and we encourage further research on this topic that is still relatively under-studied.
