This study employed a functional approach to conceptualize the Facebook Like button as a social cue that allows users to convey various meanings while enacting multiple interpersonal functions. ...Participants reported on their general reasons for using the Facebook Like button, as well as their most recent actual uses. Results discussed the following: the general predictors of Liking frequency, the specific meanings that participants sought to express by clicking Like (i.e. relational-based and content-based), the larger interpersonal functions that participants hoped to accomplish (i.e. relational facilitation, self-presentation, and metacommunication), the associations between intended meaning and interpersonal functionality, and finally, the additional response buttons that participants wish Facebook offered (e.g. Dislike, Sympathy, Congratulations, Agree, Disagree, Interesting, Funny, Love, and Got It).

This review discusses basic aspects used to control the architecture and functional properties of smart hydrogels. The introduction briefly outlines what has been accomplished regarding smart hydrogels and explores historical aspects and the fundamental understanding of these systems. Then, a short discussion on the chemical interactions and the main variables involved in architectural construction is exhibited. Further analysis provides the basis for optimizing biological responses through system modulation. Finally, we outline perspectives and challenges for building smart hydrogels into functionalized and modulated delivery systems.

Replication is one of the most important tools for the verification of facts within the empirical sciences. A detailed examination of the notion of replication reveals that there are many different ...meanings to this concept and the relevant procedures, but hardly any systematic literature. This paper analyzes the concept of replication from a theoretical point of view. It demonstrates that the theoretical demands are scarcely met in everyday work within the social sciences. Some demands are just not feasible, whereas others are constricted by restrictions relating to publication. A new classification scheme based on a functional approach that distinguishes between different types of replication is proposed. Next, it will be argued that replication addresses the important connection between existing and new knowledge. To do so it has to be applied explicitly and systematically. The paper ends with a description of procedures how this could be done and a set of recommendations how to handle the concept of replication in the future to exploit its potential to the full.

This article is concerned with the stability analysis of sampled‐data systems. Two new functionals are introduced to reduce the conservatism of stability conditions based on the looped‐functional ...approach. The first one is called a zero integral functional (ZIF) that is added to the derivative of a common Lyapunov functional. The second is a general looped‐functional (GLF), which is traditionally not well defined at sampling instants but redefined as its limits. Single‐ and double‐integral‐based ZIFs and GLFs are tailored for stability analysis. By virtue of the ZIFs and GLFs, less conservative stability criteria are derived and presented in terms of linear matrix inequalities. Finally, several numerical examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed method.

This study aims to explain and describe the implementation of functional approaches in learning Arabic through the method of community language learning. Community language learning method is a ...method that aims for students to learn to use language that is learned communicatively. Community language learning (CLL) is the name of a method developed by Charles A Curran and his colleagues. Community language learning (CLL) is often used in communicative learning or speaking skills. research in this study is the Research field. Collecting data in this study is qualitative (not in the form of numbers) through a review of some literature and using qualitative analysis in the presentation of data, data analysis and conclusion. The results of his research are detailed descriptions and explanations of the details of Arabic learning instruments that use the community language learning method in terms of a functional approach to realize the goals of modern Arabic learning, namely factual communication, in the sense that students are able to function foreign languages learned as communication tools, in this case Arabic.
This paper revisits the H∞ stability analysis for sampled-data system by employing Lyapunov functional and loop functionals. Through existing methods such as the looped-functional approach and zero ...equality in sampled-data systems, an improved result is derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities. Based on the proposed result, by utilizing the relation of state vectors belonging to augmented vectors, less conservative criteria are introduced. The main objective of this study is to increase a maximum sampling value in both periodic and aperiodic sampling cases according to minimum sampling value. Using the proposed results, H∞ stability for sampled-data systems with disturbance is studied. Lastly, some numerical examples are utilized to confirm the superiority and effectiveness of the results by comparing them with the existing ones.

This article deals with the stability analysis of Lure type systems through aperiodic sampled‐data control laws, where the nonlinearity is assumed to be both sector and slope restricted. The proposed ...method is based on the use of a new class of looped‐functionals, which depends on the nonlinearity and its slope, and on a generalized Lure type function, that is quadratic on both the states and the nonlinearity and has a Lure‐Postnikov integral term. On this basis, conditions in the form of linear matrix inequalities to certify global or regional asymptotic stability of the closed‐loop system are obtained. These conditions are then used in optimization problems for computing the maximum intersampling interval or the maximum sector bounds for which the stability of the sampled‐data closed‐loop system is guaranteed. Numerical examples to illustrate the results are provided.

This paper investigates two analytic methods for neural networks with time-varying delay. One is the sampled-data synchronization analysis for neural networks with time-varying delay and the other is ...the extended dissipative analysis for the networks with external disturbance. By constructing Lyapunov-Karasovskii functionals, looped-functionals and utilizing some mathematical techniques, a synchronization condition for neural networks with time-varying delay under the sampled-data control scheme is obtained. Improved synchronization results are proposed by adding augmented forms of functional and zero equality and applying an improved integral inequality to the previous result. And, based on the proposed criteria, the extended dissipative analysis which covers the concept of the H∞ performance, L2-L∞ performance, passivity, and dissipativity is studied. Finally, two numerical examples are utilized to show the superiority and effectiveness of the proposed results.

Smart manufacturing offers a high level of adaptability and autonomy to meet the ever-increasing demands of product mass customization. Although digitalization has been used on the shop floor of modern factory for decades, some manufacturing operations remain manual and humans can perform these better than machines. Under such circumstances, a feasible solution is to have human operators collaborate with computational intelligence (CI) in real time through augmented reality (AR). This study conducts a systematic review of the recent literature on AR applications developed for smart manufacturing. A classification framework consisting of four facets, namely interaction device, manufacturing operation, functional approach, and intelligence source, is proposed to analyze the related studies. The analysis shows how AR has been used to facilitate various manufacturing operations with intelligence. Important findings are derived from a viewpoint different from that of the previous reviews on this subject. The perspective here is on how AR can work as a collaboration interface between human and CI. The outcome of this work is expected to provide guidelines for implementing AR assisted functions with practical applications in smart manufacturing in the near future.
