While considering the idea of glocalisation, responsible leadership as a matter of importance must be characterized by innovation and social engineering. Also, Nigeria’s leadership and public ...accountability questions, problems and allied negativities must be scientifically understood in order to attain sustainable development. The reason for this is that Nigeria in recent times is fraught with divergent leadership challenges which have made the attainment of sustainable development overtly impossible. Therefore, with heavy emphasis on qualitative research approach, the study sets out to interrogate prerequisites for responsible leadership and accountability in Nigeria’s public administration and sustainable development; implications for responsible leadership and accountability challenge in Nigeria’s public administration and sustainable development. The study revealed inter alia that responsible leadership and accountability challenge encouraged loss of money in Nigeria and so on. It therefore concluded that, responsible leadership accountability challenge in the Nigeria’s public administration grossly affects sustainable development. The study recommended periodic briefing of the electorate with regard to the functionalities of government and its agencies as a way forward.
While food is capable of mediating between different cultures, opening kitchen systems to all sort of inventions, crosses and contaminations, it is also the space for domestication and adaptation. ...This has become particularly evident in contemporary glocalised foodscapes, where migratory flows, travels and the development of media systems have made the processes of translation across different food cultures increasingly evident and consistent, affecting (much faster than in the past) the existing culinary “traditions” and becoming part of them. The distinction between the global and the local dimension has thus progressively blurred, making established meanings and identities no longer clearly defined, but rather expressed through several and multiple interpretations. It is therefore essential to understand the semiotic processes underlying such interpretations, and the way they contribute to the definition of contemporary food meanings and identities. This paper deals with these crucial questions by focusing on some relevant case studies related to the Peruvian foodsphere, whose recent development and success on a global scale has been promoted precisely by means of an emphasised process of glocalisation operated by local food services and haute-cuisine chefs that have become famous worldwide.

In this paper, the common perception of globalisation as a threat to local gastronomic identities is contrasted by its other facet, as an impetus that opens up new opportunities for reinvention of local gastronomic products and identities. Relevant perspectives and theories of globalisation are reviewed to provide a theoretical framework for the study. Key dimensions underlying food consumption in tourism are elucidated, and the impacts of globalisation on the culinary supply and tourist food consumption are discussed. A conceptual model is developed in an attempt to illustrate the influence of globalisation on food consumption in tourism. This study concludes that from the world culture theory perspective, globalisation can be an impetus to reconstruct or reinvent local gastronomic traditions and particularities.

English-medium instruction (EMI) is a growing phenomenon in Vietnamese higher education in response to globalisation and internationalisation. This paper examines how four subject teachers and their ...students in undergraduate economics-related EMI courses experienced the introduction of EMI. Data were gathered from interviews, classroom observation and focus group interviews and the findings were thematically analysed using the dimensions of the ROAD-MAPPING framework (Dafouz & Smit, 2016). The teachers and students found their expectations of the programme did not match the reality. In the process of glocalisation, the local was given insufficient focus in the largely imported curriculum and pedagogies. This suggests alignment is needed between top-down (international) policies and bottom-up (local) reality for EMI to work in practice.

The entry of international SVODs into the Korean broadcasting industry since 2016 has altered the genres, quality, and sheer scale of K-drama, arguably creating a new type of television that no ...longer possesses the characteristics that have so far defined K-drama. Though overshadowed by this new phenomenon, K-drama's representative genres have been evolving to stay afloat in the rapidly changing terrain of globalized K-drama. My article explores this unheeded development by examining what has historically been the most typical K-drama genre, the romance genre - what I call the 'K-romance.' Through the case of Crash Landing on You (2019), the article elucidates three methods adopted by the K-romance. First, representative tropes of K-romances are savvily updated to align with the post-feminist audience's values, allowing the genre to appear 'woke' in the face of global viewership. Second, intertextual references to other K-dramas play a crucial role in conversing with fans within the text, thereby securing their fanbase against a plethora of fresher materials. Third, the tactics of Korean cinema from two decades ago are employed to facilitate K-drama's 'glocalisation,' namely by inserting Korean history into their narratives and applying cinematic (national) visuals into what has so far been a visually simple genre.

For many decades, Thailand has been described as a “gay paradise” by various travel magazines and Bangkok is often referred to as the “gay capital of Asia”. However, local LGBTQ people are still ...facing discrimination in many aspects of their life and many rights are denied to people of various sexual orientations and identities. In this era of globalisation, tourism brings stronger connections between countries, increasing exchanges of ideas and customs among different populations, such as ideas and values relating to sexual identities. Yet, very few studies have tried to link tourism with the processes of political and legal change, especially regarding LGBTQ rights. Moreover, it is still uncertain if LGBTQ tourism can have an impact beyond economic benefits in the destination. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to find out what are the impacts of LGBTQ tourism on the Thai LGBTQ community and on Thai legislation regarding people of various sexual orientations. Using qualitative data collected through semi-structured interviews, document analysis, and semiotic theory, the research shows how LGBTQ tourism in Thailand witnessed major transformations in the last 50 years, while emphasizing how the government and those in power have used this niche market for their own benefits. The findings show contradictory elements between the rhetoric that promotes Thailand as a “gay paradise” for tourists and the situation for local LGBTQ people. Yet, the study also shows how LGBTQ tourism can positively impact LGBTQ rights in the destination. At last, the study responds to criticism of pinkwashing by putting Thailand into its own cultural context.
This article documents, describes and discusses the dynamics of an international school located in south Delhi, India. It discusses the means and ways via which the international school designs and ...delivers its curricular and pedagogic content that tend to shape and reinforce an element of ‘internationalism’ among its pupils. The international school form of education primarily embeds teaching and learning processes within the domain of the school as well as outside of it. While the school places enormous emphasis on the concept of ‘global’ or at times even ‘international’ to promote and brand itself, it is deeply rooted to the local and national conditions and cultures as well. This aspect of inter-mixing the global with the local and national is strongly emphasized by the school, whose stakeholders believe that the true spirit of internationalism lies in becoming ‘glocal’ and not simply global. The school as well as parents want their students and children to possess a holistic understanding of the world, and not an exclusive one. Thereby, it can be argued that there is a transition from the much-hyped era of globalisation to one of ‘glocalisation’. Thus, this system of schooling is critically analysed through this article, which centrally argues that the school functions in a manner that enables students’ global compatibility of body and mind, and aims to lend them a competitive edge in the global education and job market.

Globalisation has been a powerful force taking over every field for a very long time, including the field of language education. Any discussion of globalisation cannot be held in isolation without ...extending it to include its counterpart, localisation. Teachers of English as a foreign language have long been aware of the fact that global coursebook providers enhance global culture in their coursebooks. However, getting students to identify with these global topics within their local contexts often proves challenging. Teachers experience the frustration of mediating between the global information and the local context. As has been observed, students experience the foreignness within the lessons and shy away from exchanging ideas and practising their language skills and, thus, they cannot engage with the language work. One solution to this could be merging the two concepts of globalisation and localisation, called glocalisation. This study aims at presenting good practices of glocalisation, starting from local culture and local background awareness and extending to global topics and information. In the search to ease the teacher’s mediating role and student’s motivation, and embedded in global 21st century skills, our study reveals strategies to use in English coursebooks for the successful application of glocalisation in language learning with reference to ELT in particular.
Globalisation and Africanisation remain largely polarised and diametrically opposed to each other between the global and the local in much of the literature focusing on urban restructuring in South ...Africa in the 1990s. This polarisation has rendered invisible the in-between spaces of glocalisation which yield to new signs of urbanity, and the innovative sites of collaboration and contestation in the act of defining a new urban hood in South Africa. This paper seeks to go beyond the polar-opposite way of thinking about globalisation and Africanisation. It explores the glocal encounter between the two discourses by looking at how the local is created within the discursive terms of global culture and vice versa as well as the material crossovers, within and between the two discursive categories. The thrust of argument in the paper is that the post-apartheid reconstruction process has been driven by a new political culture of global-Africanisation whereby local aspirations and global orientations and vice versa, are now discursively accepted as co-determinants in the creation of South African urban identities.
