'Healing with Water' provides a medical and social history of English spas and hydropathic centres from 1840 to 1960. It investigates health practices and healing cultures at specialist inland ...resorts showing that water was used in varied therapeutic approaches by both orthodox and unorthodox practitioners.
Health Resort Medicine, Balneology, Medical Hydrology and Climatology are not fully recognised as independent medical specialties at a global international level. Analysing the reasons, we can ...identify both external (from outside the field) and internal (from inside the field) factors. External arguments include, e.g. the lack of scientific evidence, the fact that Balneotherapy and Climatotherapy is not used in all countries, and the fact that Health Resort Medicine, Balneology, Medical Hydrology and Climatology focus only on single methods and do not have a comprehensive concept. Implicit barriers are the lack of international accepted terms in the field, the restriction of being allowed to practice the activities only in specific settings, and the trend to use Balneotherapy mainly for wellness concepts. Especially the implicit barriers should be subject to intense discussions among scientists and specialists. This paper suggests one option to tackle the problem of implicit barriers by making a proposal for a structure and description of the medical field, and to provide some commonly acceptable descriptions of content and terminology. The medical area can be defined as “medicine in health resorts” (or “health resort medicine”). Health resort medicine includes “all medical activities originated and derived in health resorts based on scientific evidence aiming at health promotion, prevention, therapy and rehabilitation”. Core elements of health resort interventions in health resorts are balneotherapy, hydrotherapy, and climatotherapy. Health resort medicine can be used for health promotion, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation. The use of natural mineral waters, gases and peloids in many countries is called balneotherapy, but other (equivalent) terms exist. Substances used for balneotherapy are medical mineral waters, medical peloids, and natural gases (bathing, drinking, inhalation, etc.). The use of plain water (tap water) for therapy is called hydrotherapy, and the use of climatic factors for therapy is called climatotherapy. Reflecting the effects of health resort medicine, it is important to take other environmental factors into account. These can be classified within the framework of the ICF (International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health). Examples include receiving health care by specialised doctors, being well educated (ICF-domain: e355), having an environment supporting social contacts (family, peer groups) (cf. ICF-domains: d740, d760), facilities for recreation, cultural activities, leisure and sports (cf. ICF-domain: d920), access to a health-promoting atmosphere and an environment close to nature (cf. ICF-domain: e210). The scientific field dealing with health resort medicine is called health resort sciences. It includes the medical sciences, psychology, social sciences, technical sciences, chemistry, physics, geography, jurisprudence, etc. Finally, this paper proposes a systematic international discussion of descriptions in the field of Health Resort Medicine, Balneology, Medical Hydrology and Climatology, and discusses short descriptive terms with the goal of achieving internationally accepted distinct terms. This task should be done via a structured consensus process and is of major importance for the publication of scientific results as well as for systematic reviews and meta-analyses.

Introduction. Early pregnancy loss is still an unresolved problem in obstetric and gynecology. The pathogenesis is based on the comorbidity of pathological factors such as subclinical hormonal, ...immune, psychoneurotic disorders and endometrial pathology. It requires complex rehabilitation pregnancy planning programs for such patients. Aim. Aim of research is to optimize treatment and rehabilitation measures in patients with the history of early pregnancy lost using the Belokurikha’s spa and resort clusters. Material and methods. 79 patients with early reproductive lost history underwent a course of medical and rehabilitation treatment in the «Altai Castle» spa and resort (Belokurikha, Altai Region). Complex spa treatment included climatotherapy and combination of various methods: balneo-, peloid-, physiotherapy and a prolonged course of herbal medicine. Results and discussion. Women with a history of early pregnancy loss had significant improvement in physical and mental health, ultrasound chronic endometritis markers were decreased. The first year onset pregnancy occurred in 70.9% after rehabilitation and most of them (92.8%) delivered at term. Proposed rehabilitation program is highly efficient due to the multidirectional potentiating action of natural factors that have powerful immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory and regenerating effects. Conclusion. A complex rehabilitation program for patients with a history of early pregnancy lost in Belokurikha’s spa and resort with a prolonged course of herbal medicine helps to make rapid psychosomatic and reproductive health recovery.
Health resort treatment is an important element of the Polish health care system. An aging population, an increase in the amount of free time and income, as well as a healthy lifestyle trend are the ...main factors for the development of health tourism. West Pomeranian voivodeship ranks 3rd in the country in terms of the number of health resorts, as well as is the undisputed leader in terms of the number of people visiting Polish resorts. In 2017, over 25% of patients underwent medical treatment in health resorts in West Pomeranian voivodeship. The aim of the study was to analyze the potential of health resorts in West Pomeranian voivodeship and to assess the development of tourist traffic in health resorts in recent years. West Pomeranian voivodeship observes a steady increase in the number of health resort visitors using the services offered by health establishments and a changing structure of patients in regard to the financing method – there is a growing number of people who finance their stay in the health resort on their own. In order to maintain the leading position on the market of health tourism services, it is necessary to raise the standard of health services, carry out further investments in modern health resort infrastructure that is open to innovative and unconventional solutions combining traditional and modern methods of treatment as well as preventive healthcare and leisure. There is a need to constantly adapt the health tourism product to the changing needs of patients and to create new brand of products as well as acquire new groups of recipients who finance their stay in health establishments.
Spa treatment, which constitutes an integral part of health care, is an organized activity consisting in providing health care services in the field of spa treatment or spa rehabilitation carried out ...in a spa by spa treatment facilities. In order to ensure the proper and efficient operation of this form of treatment in specially adapted facilities that are medical entities, this treatment is subject to professional supervision. Supervision over health resort treatment entails the control and evaluation of health resort treatment carried out in health resort treatment establishments. This issue is regulated primarily in the Act of 28 July 2005 on spa treatment, health resorts and health resort protection areas and in health resort communes, as well as in the Act of 15 April 2011 on medical activity. The study contains an analysis and evaluation of the legal regulations concerning the supervision of spa treatment. It discusses the basic terms related to spa issues and presents some concepts of control and supervision in terms of the doctrine. Spa supervision is characterized by specific regulations and the degree of complexity. This applies to individual issues that allow the reconstruction of the essence of supervision. These are the supervisory authorities, subject of supervision, the supervised entities, criteria and scope of supervision exercised and legal means of supervision. The authorities supervising the health resort treatment include the Minister of Health, the Voivode, the Minister of National Defense and the Minister of the Interior. In this article, in the analysis of the scope of his competences and control and supervisory powers great attention is paid to the Minister of Health as the central body of government administration in the field of matters belonging to the department of health administration managed by him. Due to the specific nature of supervision of this treatment carried out in the voivodeship, the legal position of the chief physician of the health resort, with whose help the voivode exercises this supervision, was analyzed. Since spa treatment is carried out in spa facilities in a health resort, the study contains the problem of separate control procedurescarried out in this area, within which special attention is paid to internal, management and ad hoc control.
INTRODUCTION. One of the most important directions of the development of children’s balneology is the improvement of sanatoriumresort treatment of children. On November 26, 2018, the Russian ...Government approved the Strategy for the Development of the
Russian Sanatorium-Resort Complex, which aims to increase the availability of health resort treatment; development of therapeutic areas and resorts; effective use of natural therapeutic resources; and improvement of the material and technical base of health resort organizations. In recent years there has been a tendency towards intensifying scientific research in the field of children’s balneology: the problems of adaptation of children’s bodies to contrasting climatic conditions are being brought up to date; questions of medical climatology concerning the specific features of meteopathological reactions and the development of methods of their correction and prevention using both natural factors and hardware physiotherapy technologies are being actively studied; scientific research on balneotherapy – a traditionally widely used method of resort therapy – is being revived;
AIM. To analyze the history of the formation of children’s balneology and physiotherapy and to assess its current state.
CONCLUSION. An important area of pediatric physiotherapy is the development of personalized physiotherapy based on the provision on the maximum effectiveness of physical treatment methods applied taking into account the individual characteristics of the young patient’s body. Today, innovative physiotherapy technologies are widely included in individual medical rehabilitation programs for children with various diseases. Thus, nowadays, children’s balneology and physiotherapy have a good theoretical, methodological and personnel base for the effective solution of urgent problems in pediatrics. Advances in the study of the mechanism of therapeutic action of natural and artificial physical factors open up new prospects in the development of innovative technologies of resort pediatrics and physiotherapy. Unsolved problems determine promising directions for the development of balneology and physiotherapy in pediatrics.

Background.
Low-grade inflammation is currently one of the main risk factors for the development of adverse events in the cardiovascular system, including death from cardiovascular diseases or their ...complications that cause mortality in the postCOVID period.
The aim of the study.
To assess the impact of health resort treatment in the conditions of the Southern Coast of Crimea on clinical and functional parameters, as well as on the level of systemic inflammation in patients after a new coronavirus infection.
Materials and methods.
The study included 67 patients (54.9 ± 9.05 years) in the post-COVID period who underwent health resort treatment at the I.M. Sechenov Academic Research Institute of Physical Treatment Methods, Medical Climatology and Rehabilitation. Methods of health resort treatment included climatic treatment on the Southern Coast of Crimea, therapeutic breathing exercises, terrainkur, and various methods of respiratory therapy. In all patients, the study of the C-reactive protein (CRP) in peripheral blood upon admission and at discharge was carried out.
Results.
Despite a statistically significant improvement in most clinical and functional parameters, the level of CRP and the number of leukocytes and their subpopulations in peripheral blood in patients who underwent health resort treatment did not differ significantly (p > 0.05) from the baseline values obtained upon admission at the I.M. Sechenov Academic Research Institute of Physical Treatment Methods, Medical Climatology and Rehabilitation. The CRP index upon admission and at discharge corresponded to the lower limit of the interval specific for low-grade inflammation (from 3 to 10 mg/l).
Conclusion.
Our results indicate the lack of effectiveness of the presented plan of health resort treatment in the correction of low-intensity inflammation, as well as the necessity for deeper scientific research in the direction of studying the mechanisms of low-grade inflammation development and the methods of its management.
A longevity and balneotherapy treatment program has been initiated at the Cofrentes Medical Spa, including the development of the Rosita Longevity App. The objective of this study is to determine the ...health profiles (degree of frailty and pre-frailty) by means of Fried Frailty Phenotype questionnaire and the prevalence of geriatric syndromes in people over 60 doing balneotherapy at the spa, considering that the thermal environment is an ideal place to treat these types of syndromes and to delay their progress. Thermal/spa facilities often receive older patients with osteo-articular and musculoskeletal conditions. To assess the grade of the functionality, quality of life, depression, nutritional risk, cognitive state, insomnia, and the risk of falls, specific questionnaires were used. Out of a total of 43 participants, 30 were women (69.7%), and 22 older than 70 y (51.1%). There were 2 frail (4.6%) and 20 prefrail (46.5%). Conclusions: more than half of the people older than 60 who visit the Cofrentes spa present a functionality deficit condition. Women present a lower quality of life than men. The more affected items in the prefrail population were grip strength and physical activity. Health Resort Medicine is an ideal place to detect these aspects.
