Get the influence of shooting on the ballistic elements and correction elements of grenade under the condition of extra-large elevation difference between artillery and target in plateau ...area through simulation, and drawn the comparison chart of different altitude and elevation difference between artillery and target by using the simulation data. Calculate the variation characteristics of the hit range of laser terminal guided projectile under the condition of the elevation difference of extra-large elevation difference between artillery and target at different altitudes, and the influence of altitude and extra-large elevation difference between artillery and target on the hit range of laser terminal guided projectile is analyzed and summarized. It has a certain reference value for improving the shooting accuracy under the condition of high altitude and extra-large elevation difference between artillery and target.
High-altitude cerebral edema (HACE) and acute mountain sickness (AMS) are neuro-pathologies associated with rapid exposure to hypoxia. However, speculation remains regarding the exact etiology of ...both HACE and AMS and whether or not they share a common mechanistic pathology. This mini-review outlines the basic principles of HACE development, highlighting how edema could develop from 1) a progression from cytotoxic swelling to ionic edema, or 2) permeation of the blood brain barrier (BBB) with or without ionic edema. Thereafter, discussion turns to the available neuroimaging literature in the context of cytotoxic, ionic or vasogenic edema in both HACE and AMS. While HACE is clearly caused by an increase in brain water of ionic and/or vasogenic origin, there is very little evidence that this type of edema is present when AMS develops. However, cerebral vasodilation, increased intracranial blood volume and concomitant intracranial fluid shifts from the extracellular to the intracellular space, as interpreted from changes in diffusion indices within white matter, are observed consistently in persons acutely exposed to hypoxia and with AMS. Therefore, herein we explore the idea that intracellular swelling occurs alongside AMS, and is a critical pre-cursor to extracellular ionic edema formation. We propose that this process produces a subtle modulation of the BBB, which either together with or independent of vasogenic edema provides a transvascular segue from the end-stage of AMS to HACE. Ultimately, this mini-review seeks to shed light on the possible processes underlying HACE pathophysiology, and thus highlight potential avenues for future prevention and treatment.
The key elements in acclimatization aim at securing the oxygen supply to tissues and organs of the body with an optimal oxygen tension of the arterial blood. In acute exposure, ventilation and heart ...rate are elevated with a minimum reduction in stroke volume. In addition, plasma volume is reduced over 24–48 h to improve the oxygen‐carrying capacity of the blood, and is further improved during a prolonged sojourn at altitude through an enhanced erythropoiesis and larger Hb mass, allowing for a partial or full restoration of the blood volume and arterial oxygen content. Most of these adaptations are observed from quite low altitudes ∼1000 m above sea level (m a.s.l.) and become prominent from 2000 m a.s.l. At these higher altitudes additional adaptations occur, one being a reduction in the maximal heart rate response and consequently a lower peak cardiac output. Thus, in spite of a normalization of the arterial oxygen content after 4 or more weeks at altitude, the peak oxygen uptake reached after a long acclimatization period is essentially unaltered compared with acute exposure. What is gained is a more complete oxygenation of the blood in the lungs, i.e. SaO2 is increased. The alteration at the muscle level at altitude is minor and so is the effect on the metabolism, although it is debated whether a possible reduction in blood lactate accumulation occurs during exercise at altitude. Transient acute mountain sickness (headache, anorexia, and nausea) is present in 10–30% of subjects at altitudes between 2500 and 3000 m a.s.l. Pulmonary edema is rarely seen below 3000 m a.s.l. and brain edema is not seen below 4000 m a.s.l. It is possible to travel to altitudes of 2500–3000 m a.s.l., wait for 2 days, and then gradually start to train. At higher altitudes, one should consider a staged ascent (average ascent rate 300 m/day above 2000 m a.s.l.), primarily in order to sleep and feel well, and minimize the risk of mountain sickness. A new classification of altitude levels based on the effects on performance and well‐being is proposed and an overview given over the various modalities using hypoxia and altitude for improvement of performance.

Stellar heating causes atmospheres of close-in exoplanets to expand and escape. These extended atmospheres are difficult to observe because their main spectral signature-neutral hydrogen at ...ultraviolet wavelengths-is strongly absorbed by interstellar medium. We report the detection of the near-infrared triplet of neutral helium in the transiting warm Neptune-mass exoplanet HAT-P-11b using ground-based, high-resolution observations. The helium feature is repeatable over two independent transits, with an average absorption depth of 1.08 ± 0.05%. Interpreting absorption spectra with 3D simulations of the planet's upper atmosphere suggests it extends beyond 5 planetary radii, with a large scale height and a helium mass loss rate ≲ 3×10

High‐altitude physiology can be said to have begun in 1644 when Torricelli described the first mercury barometer and wrote the immortal words “We live submerged at the bottom of an ocean of the ...element air.” Interestingly, the notion of atmospheric pressure had eluded his teacher, the great Galileo. Blaise Pascal was responsible for describing the fall in pressure with increasing altitude, and Otto von Guericke gave a dramatic demonstration of the enormous force that could be developed by atmospheric pressure. Robert Boyle learned of Guericke's experiment and, with Robert Hooke, constructed the first air pump that allowed small animals to be exposed to a low pressure. Hooke also constructed a small low‐pressure chamber and exposed himself to a simulated altitude of about 2400 meters. With the advent of ballooning, humans were rapidly exposed to very low pressures, sometimes with tragic results. For example, the French balloon, Zénith, rose to over 8000 m, and two of the three aeronauts succumbed to the hypoxia. Paul Bert was the first person to clearly state that the deleterious effects of high altitude were caused by the low partial pressure of oxygen (PO2), and later research was accelerated by high‐altitude stations and expeditions to high altitude.

To provide guidance to clinicians about best preventive and therapeutic practices, the Wilderness Medical Society (WMS) convened an expert panel to develop evidence-based guidelines for prevention ...and treatment of acute mountain sickness, high altitude cerebral edema, and high altitude pulmonary edema. Recommendations are graded based on the quality of supporting evidence and the balance between the benefits and risks/burdens according to criteria put forth by the American College of Chest Physicians. The guidelines also provide suggested approaches to prevention and management of each form of acute altitude illness that incorporate these recommendations. This is an updated version of the original WMS Consensus Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Acute Altitude Illness published in 2010 and subsequently updated as the WMS Practice Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Acute Altitude Illness in 2014.

High‐altitude pulmonary hypertension (HAPH) is an altitude‐related illness associated with hypoxaemia that may promote sympathetic excitation and prolongation of the QT interval. The present ...case‐control study tests whether QT intervals, markers of malignant cardiac arrhythmias, are prolonged in highlanders with HAPH (HAPH+) compared to healthy highlanders (HH) and healthy lowlanders (LL). The mean pulmonary artery pressure (mPAP) was measured by echocardiography in 18 HAPH+ (mPAP, 34 mmHg) and 18 HH (mPAP, 23 mmHg) at 3,250 m, and 18 LL (mPAP, 18 mmHg) at 760 m, Kyrgyzstan (p < .05 all mPAP comparisons). Groups were matched for age, sex and body mass index. Electrocardiography and pulse oximetry were continuously recorded during nocturnal polysomnography. The heart rate‐adjusted QT interval, QTc, was averaged over consecutive 1‐min periods. Overall, a total of 26,855 averaged 1‐min beat‐by‐beat periods were semi‐automatically analysed. In HAPH+, maximum nocturnal QTc was longer during sleep (median 456 ms) than wakefulness (432 ms, p < .05) and exceeded corresponding values in HH (437 and 419 ms) and LL (430 and 406 ms), p < .05, respectively. The duration of night‐time QTc >440 ms was longer in HAPH+ (median 144 min) than HH and LL (46 and 14 min, p < .05, respectively). HAPH+ had higher night‐time heart rate (median 78 beats/min) than HH and LL (66 and 65 beats/min, p < .05, respectively), lower mean nocturnal oxygen saturation than LL (88% versus 95%, p < .05) and more cyclic oxygen desaturations (median 24/hr) than HH and LL (13 and 3/hr, p < .05, respectively). In conclusion, HAPH was associated with higher night‐time heart rate, hypoxaemia and longer QTc versus HH and LL, and may represent a substrate for increased risk of malignant cardiac arrhythmias.

Traveling to high altitudes for entertainment or work is sometimes associated with acute high altitude pathologies. In the past, scientific literature from the lowlander point of view was primarily ...based on mountain climbing. Sea level scientists developed all guidelines, but they need modifications for medical care in high altitude cities. Acute Mountain Sickness, High Altitude Pulmonary Edema, and High Altitude Cerebral Edema are medical conditions that some travelers can face. We present how to diagnose and treat acute high altitude pathologies, based on 51 years of high altitude physiology research and medical practice in hypobaric hypoxic diseases in La Paz, Bolivia (3,600 m; 11,811 ft), at the High Altitude Pulmonary and Pathology Institute (HAPPI – IPPA). These can occasionally present after flights to high altitude cities, both in lowlanders or high-altitude residents during re-entry. Acute high altitude ascent diseases can be adequately diagnosed and treated in high altitude cities following the presented guidelines. Treating these high-altitude illnesses, we had no loss of life. Traveling to a high altitude with sound medical advice should not be feared as it has many benefits. Nowadays, altitude descent and evacuation are not mandatory in populated highland cities, with adequate medical resources.
A High Altitude Platform Station (HAPS) is a network node that operates in the stratosphere at an of altitude around 20 km and is instrumental for providing communication services. Precipitated by ...technological innovations in the areas of autonomous avionics, array antennas, solar panel efficiency levels, and battery energy densities, and fueled by flourishing industry ecosystems, the HAPS has emerged as an indispensable component of next-generations of wireless networks. In this article, we provide a vision and framework for the HAPS networks of the future supported by a comprehensive and state-of-the-art literature review. We highlight the unrealized potential of HAPS systems and elaborate on their unique ability to serve metropolitan areas. The latest advancements and promising technologies in the HAPS energy and payload systems are discussed. The integration of the emerging Reconfigurable Smart Surface (RSS) technology in the communications payload of HAPS systems for providing a cost-effective deployment is proposed. A detailed overview of the radio resource management in HAPS systems is presented along with synergistic physical layer techniques, including Faster-Than-Nyquist (FTN) signaling. Numerous aspects of handoff management in HAPS systems are described. The notable contributions of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in HAPS, including machine learning in the design, topology management, handoff, and resource allocation aspects are emphasized. The extensive overview of the literature we provide is crucial for substantiating our vision that depicts the expected deployment opportunities and challenges in the next 10 years (next-generation networks), as well as in the subsequent 10 years (next-next-generation networks).
Intestinal microorganisms play an important role in the health of both humans and animals, with their composition being influenced by changes in the host's environment.
We evaluated the longitudinal ...changes in the fecal microbial community of rats at different altitudes across various time points. Rats were airlifted to high altitude (3,650 m) and acclimatized for 42 days (HAC), before being by airlifted back to low altitude (500 m) and de-acclimatized for 28 days (HADA); meanwhile, the control group included rats living at low altitude (500 m; LA). We investigated changes in the gut microbiota at 12 time points during high-altitude acclimatization and de-acclimatization, employing 16S rRNA gene sequencing technology alongside physiological indices, such as weight and daily autonomous activity time.
A significant increase in the Chao1 index was observed on day 14 in the HAC and HADA groups compared to that in the LA group, indicating clear differences in species richness. Moreover, the principal coordinate analysis revealed that the bacterial community structures of HAC and HADA differed from those in LA. Long-term high-altitude acclimatization and de- acclimatization resulted in the reduced abundance of the probiotic Lactobacillus. Altitude and age significantly influenced intestinal microbiota composition, with changes in ambient oxygen content and atmospheric partial pressure being considered key causal factors of altitude-dependent alterations in microbiota composition. High-altitude may be linked to an increase in anaerobic bacterial abundance and a decrease in non-anaerobic bacterial abundance.
In this study, the hypobaric hypoxic conditions at high-altitude increased the abundance of anaerobes, while reducing the abundance of probiotics; these changes in bacterial community structure may, ultimately, affect host health. Overall, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the intestinal microbiota alterations during high-altitude acclimatization and de-acclimatization is essential for the development of effective prevention and treatment strategies to better protect the health of individuals traveling between high- and low-altitude areas.
