The impact of the global tourist lockdown due to the pandemic dimensions of covid-19 in 2020 and the beginning of 2021 has shaken the industry to its core. The industry of mass tourism has certainly ...suffered a great knockout, a kind of acute respiratory constriction, a functional collapse that on an organic level would appear as coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, tiredness, a life-threatening difficulty in breathing. In this paper, we used the concept of hyperventilation as understood by medicine to seek an organic understanding of the crisis that has hit tourist services. The study used a qualitative research technique, namely the single case study of a healthy man at the age of 51, who was going through a health-enhancing breathing protocol. The conclusions were derived based on inductive reasoning. The pattern and results of expected organic changes due to the breathing protocol were transferred by analogy to the institutionalized level of tourism. Since we focused on changes and patterns to be reflected organically, the detailed symptoms or initial disbalance of the individual in the case study were irrelevant for our conclusions. Physiologically, hyperventilation in humans results in tissue hypoxia, meaning that less oxygen is delivered to cells. Similar logic can be transferred to hyperinflated mass tourism booming in recent years, negatively impacting the indigenous social and natural environment. The results of the expert-based and scientifically justified 5-week breathing interventions are presented via a case study. The improvement of major factors and qualitative interpretation from the subject itself has provided us with sufficient outcomes that can be used (1) in designing preventive and postcovidhealth regenerative retreats as tourist products and (2) as a model to support the tourism industry with an understanding of sustainable niche-market solutions.
The current need for territories and societies to grow is based on the Sustainable Development Models as well as the United Nations (UN) Agenda for 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In that ...case, such new forms of tourism development imply creating and upgrading critical infrastructures, facilities, equipment, or differentiated activities to bring clients who align with the desired Sustainable Development Models and SDGs. In this regard, the thematic literature provides evidence that some tourism typologies (nature-based, rural, culturally-based creative tourism) play a critical role in attaining sustainable regional development. Therefore, this paper aims to unfold what can be learned from the pilot projects implemented in the Azores region aimed toward the so-desired regional sustainability. Contextually, the obtained results ask for the regional leaders to consider encouraging entrepreneurship associated with small and medium-sized firms; fostering the diversity of touristic offerings; designing guidelines that follow sustainable development models and the SDGs; or creating meaningful investments in the conservation and protection of cultural heritage, as well as the Azorean endogenous resources.

Now more than ever, strategic tourism goals are key points in support of innovative, accessible and inclusive tourism, to stimulate data-based decision-making, improve the tourist experience and increase the focus on sustainability.
Originality/value
In this paper, the objectives of the Portuguese tourism strategy 2027 are outlined and a series of unprecedented initiatives are profiled, which aim to provide the destination with highly competitive conditions, to differentiate it from other tourist destinations while increasing its notoriety and competitiveness.
The article presents a scientific discussion on trends and prospects for product innovation in the tourism business. The main objective of the study is to substantiate the nature and role of ...innovative tourism products in improving the efficiency of economic and product activities of tourism enterprises, the need for their implementation in tourism at its present stage in Ukraine. Analysis of literature sources and existing approaches to solving the problem of implementation of innovative products by tourism enterprises allowed us to formulate conceptual tools in this area, taking into account industry specifics, to characterize the types of product innovations of tourism enterprises. The topicality of solving this scientific problem boils down to the fact that in conditions of competition, the development of tourism business is ensured primarily by the use of product innovations by tourism enterprises, the introduction of effective ways to implement priority areas of innovation. The study of the problem of implementation of innovative tourist products in the practical activities of enterprises is carried out in the following logical sequence: the subject matter and types of innovative tourist products have been analysed, the main prerequisites for their implementation in the activities of enterprises have been defined; the main trends in the development of innovations in the tourism business of Ukraine, in particular, new tourism products and innovative approaches used to retain regular customers and attract new ones in a competitive environment; an optimal model of implementation of innovative tourist products has been developed.
The methodological tools of the conducted study were general theoretical and specific methods, in particular, logical and dialectical, graphoanalytical method, method of scientific abstraction, systemic and integrated approaches. The study covered the period of 2010—2019. The object of research is an innovative tourist product that allowed implementation of its model taking into account the effect of external and internal environment.
The article presents the results of empirical analysis of the main trends in the development of innovation at the present stage of development of the tourism business in Ukraine. In addition, there are reasons that inhibit innovation in tourism, which must be taken into account for the development and implementation of innovative tourist products.
The study theoretically proves and supports that the development of innovative activities and the introduction of innovative tourist products provide tourism enterprises with competitive advantages. The results of the study can be useful in the practical work of travel agencies that seek to create a portfolio of innovative products and increase the efficiency of their activities.
