The purposes of the present study were to examine 4 components involved when implementing Teachable Moment Process in "life and death education", based on the theory proposed by Eyzaguirre (2006), ...and to verify the contents of each of the components of that process. To verify the contents, 5th grade students (N=130) completed a questionnaire about their awareness of life, elementary and junior high school students (N=1,048) completed the Perception of Life Scale, and teachers (N=169) completed a questionnaire about their expectations and efforts with respect to "life and death education". The results suggested that the first component, significant events in a learner's life, might be based on a personal experience or information from the mass media. This component was likely to lead to the second, a learner's interest in and readiness to grow from the event. The data on the third component, teachers' propensity and ability to respond, suggested that about 60% of the teachers were positive about "life and death education". The fourth component, spontaneous responses by the teachers, suggested that more than 80% of them were doing some kind of correspondence, but the existence of various other ideas was also suggested.

This article argues that reflective surfaces throughout all seven Harry Potter novels symbolize thresholds between discrete worlds. By displaying Harry's dead parents on 'the other side' of the ...Mirror of Erised, the text draws on the Myth of Narcissus and various other mythological death-mirrors to create the impression of an inverse afterlife realm where the dead live again, supporting the central themes of death and grief in the series. By drawing upon Lori M. Campbell's theory of object 'porters,' the article shows how the gradual transformation of this framework through more abstract reflections (eyes, creatures, lakes) reveals a deep symbolic framework woven throughout the entire series, with further roots in Farah Mendlesohn's sub-genre classifications as well as modern fantasy literature. When paired with John Granger's contention that Harry's confrontations with death parallel the descents of monomythic heroes across time, the text's spatial symbology allows it to effectively signal the boy wizard's escalating awareness of mortality and willingness to face it, courting death in the name of life.

This paper examines the omission of narrative texts in the English translation of Mo Yan's
Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out
. A textual comparison revealed that the translation contains the radical ...omission of around 50,000 Chinese characters, comprising nearly 13% of the original text. Since the English version reshapes the original work for an English context and a Western audience, it is worthwhile to examine the consequences of the omissions. In particular, are there any patterns among the omitted sections? Is the version with omissions received more favorably by a Western audience? Omissions of narrative texts and their effects were the focus of this study. The adopted methodology comprises textual analysis, narrative analysis, questionnaire, and interviews. The omissions are explored from six categories: narrative text, descriptive text, embedded text, narrator's comments, characters' monologs and lengthy passages containing multiple omission types. The omission of narrative text and its consequences are the focus of this paper. Through textual and narrative analysis, the discussion identifies discrepancies between the source text and the target text, including mitigation of political criticism, stereotyping of Chinese culture, simplification of narrative structure, and plot reorganization. Through questionnaires and interviews, this paper investigates how the omissions may have influenced the reception of the novel by the target audience. Interestingly, significant omissions of political criticism did not impede Western readers' perceptions of the book's political criticisms. Instead, they facilitate and augment the entertainment aspect of the reading. Therefore, this paper argues that the novel has been rewritten to accommodate a Western audience's reading habits and Western poetological systems and to attract a mass audience.

Methods: The subjects were five patients with ...cancer who were receiving home palliative care and had predicted survival periods of no longer than six months. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and participant observations, and were analyzed with reference to the phenomenological psychological approach of Giorgi. Results: Experiences related to "life and death" among terminal cancer patients receiving home palliative care consisted of "longing to live, even though they realized their limited life", "hope for a 'natural death' if death is inevitable", "thinking about family and others who provide support", "awareness of a being beyond the self", and "wavering between life and death". Conclusion: This study suggested that asking questions that reflect on the patient's life and holding conversations that involved the patient's family were important for communication between patients and nurses.
In this paper, the authors explore the depiction of perversion and the associated interplay of life and death drives in Roman Polanski’s 1992 film Bitter Moon. To begin with, a theoretical discussion ...is presented regarding perverse organizations of mastery and sadomasochism. Perversion is viewed as an expression of the death drive under erotic disguise, in which the destructive fingerprint of the death drive is revealed at every stage, having as its ultimate purpose the destruction of the other. Based on these theoretical insights a dialogue is developed with Polanski’s film, which brings to life the theory of sadomasochistic relations through the multidimensional aesthetic medium of cinema. It is shown how Polanski’s cinematic oeuvre conveys the essence of the difficult and complex experience of perverse relations, where the life and death drives and their transformations are manifested. The portrayal of the sadomasochistic relations in this film contributes to the experiential knowledge with which the authors promote insight that would potentially enrich the clinical work with patients with perverse organizations.

Life-and-death education is intimately related to palliative-and-hospice care. It should be implemented among groups of all ages, especially for the elderly. This study aims to establish expert ...consensus on a set of scientific and systematic life-and-death education contents for the elderly and provide reference for the practice on the elderly.
This study designed three rounds of expert consultation by using a Delphi method. A panel of 22 experts from the fields of palliative-and-hospice care, life-and-death education, geriatric nursing, humanities and ethics, and geriatric psychology participated in the study.
This study finally reached expert consensus on the contents of life-and-death education for the elderly, containing 4 first-level items, Life-and-death literacy promotion in the elderly; Life-and-death concept establishment of the elderly; Life-and-death planning of the elderly; Life-and-death thoughts of the elderly with affiliated 9 second-level items, and corresponding 23 detailed third-level items.
The life-and-death education contents for the elderly offer a basis for publicity for health professionals, promote dialogues on death, preparation, and planning for death and dying. The life-and-death education contents system was clear in coherence containing definite and comprehensive contents, which enriched life-and-death education resources globally. The results could assist in the planning of palliative-and-hospice care services to improve quality of death of the elderly.

Introduction
With the global aging process intensified, the demand for end-of-life care has surged, especially in China. However, its development is restricted. Understanding the life and death ...attitude among the elderly and its formation process, and clarifying their needs, are so important to promote social popularization of end-of-life care.
Methodology
This qualitative study included 20 elderly residents in Nan and Shuangbei Communities, Chongqing City, People’s Republic of China. Data were collected through semistructured in-depth individual interviews and processed by thematic analysis method.
Results
Three themes and eight subthemes were identified: Characteristics of formation process (passive thinking, closed and single), life-and-death attitude (cherish and enjoy life, quality of life priority, let death take its course) and expectations of end-of-life care (preferences, basic needs, good death).
Discussion
Life-and-death attitude and end-of-life care expectations of the elderly support the development and delivery of end-of-life care. Furthermore, the individual-family-hospital linkage discussion channel needs to be further explored.

This study presents the collaborative design experience of developing a cross-generational communication game about life-and-death issues. The research activities involved two groups of end-users ...from different generations, who were tasked with working together to build tools that would encourage a deeper communication between them. To overcome limited knowledge on serious game design and encourage participation, this study utilises an experimental approach that involves a series of workshop activities following a design circle. The results indicate that engagement among cross-generational participants can be enhanced by involving a small, mixed group and utilising structural design materials in the co-design process. The groups developed a collaborative mode of task-oriented and ability-based division of labour to develop the game. This approach also stimulated individuals to take on multiple roles, that is, users, testers, informants, and design partners, and shift between roles as the group dynamic, supporting materials, and design stages evolve. Additionally, this collaborative process encourages participants to reflect on their role as future end-users when communicating sensitive issues to others.
