In this paper, in order to improve the durability of optical fiber grating hydrogen sensors, an optical fiber grating hydrogen sensor with high precision, stability, and durability is prepared. Based ...on the simplified two-dimensional model and finite element analysis, the effects of film thickness, coating speed, and coating times on the residual Mises equivalent stress between the sensor film and substrate were studied, and the optimum coating parameters were determined. The finite element analysis results show that the residual equivalent stress between the film and the substrate increases with the increase in the film thickness between 50 and 150 nm. The range of 200–250 nm is relatively stable, and the value is small. The coating speed has almost no effect on the residual equivalent stress. When the thickness of the film is 200 nm, the residual equivalent stress decreases with the increase in coating times, and the equivalent force is the lowest when the film is coated three times. The best coating parameters are the thickness of 200 nm, the speed of 62.5 μm/s, and the times of coating three times. The results of finite element analysis are verified by the hydrogen sensitivity test and durability test.

This paper aims to ascertain how nurses change emotions on the death of patients as they witness death many times. The paper interviewed twelve nurses who had several years of experience. Among ...these, two interviewees revealed significant changes from the beginning of their nursing careers and after they witnessed the deaths of many patients, hence the paper examined the interviews of these two nurses in detail. The results revealed that novice nurses feel surprised or puzzled when they encounter the death of a patient. There was a tendency among novice nurses to avoid any involvement with such patients because they carry the mental burden of their relationship after the death of these patients. However, after witnessing the deaths of many patients, nurses became actively involved with dying patients and their families, and their emotions towards death changed to sorrow since they knew the life history of the patients beyond their diseases. This paper discusses why nurses experience these changes. Since they have experienced the death of many patients, nurses have formed a perspective of life and death as peaceful death. First, they have recognized that eventually everyone will die; second, it is ideal that no pain or regret should remain to patients; third, the professional attitude of the nurses intervenes to realize an ideal death for the patients. I contend that this change in the view of life and death has helped the nurses to overcome the mental burden and encouraged them to be involved with dying patients. This involvement of the nurses with their patients can be what Hochschild discussed as an emotional labor, because the nurses managed the emotions of others, by involving the dying patients and their families, so that they had no regret. The nurses managed their own emotions and inducing their sentiments by listening to the patient's life history, or suppressing their feelings by viewing life and death as peaceful death.
Considering the literary works by Agatha Christie the author of the paper pays special attention to the writer’s insufficiently researched novels – “Elephants can remember” and “Curtain”, the former ...of which earned not entirely fair assessment from critics. There is evidence of possible connection between some Christie’s novels and Bram Stoker’s “Dracula”. The article studies the symbolism of Hercule Poirot image, and ideas about certain faces of his character and place in the “universe” of Agatha Christie are deepened. Her detective riddles are a kind of cipher, they are built on the techniques of substitution and repetition. New examples are noted, demonstrating Christie’s attitude to Shakespeare and Arthur Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes cycle). The historical element in the books by Agatha Christie is present not only explicitly in the form of historical events, etc., but also in a hidden form, penetrating into the deeper layers of her work.
“Life and death education,” also known as life education and death education, is an important area of research that may help to explain and account for the proactivity of human agency. One ...significant aspect of life and death education, reflecting the Taiwanese anthropological–sociocultural viewpoint, is associated with a person’s introspective reflection and contemplation about his life knowledge, theoretical understanding, and personal experiences of life and/or death-related matters (e.g., the existence of some form of life after death). Our research teaching and research undertakings of the subject matter, individually and collectively, have led us to philosophize a theoretical concept that may help to advance the study of life and death education. Notably, drawing from the literature pertaining to the concept of self, ranging from William James’ classical writing to more recent writings, we propose a concept known as “incorporeal self-being,” which there are many (i.e., multiple self-beings), depending on the different contexts at hand. A contextual incorporeal self-being for a particular context (e.g., the context of being a secondary school student), in this case, emanates from deep within, reflecting a person’s soul, psyche, mindset, consciousness, and subconsciousness. We purport that multiple contextual self-beings (e.g., Contextual Self-Being 1, Contextual Self-Being 2, … Contextual Self-Being n ) combine to form the concept of “holistic self.” Moreover, novel in our conceptualization is the proposition that a person’s incorporeal self-being is intimately linked to his/her “contextual mindset,” which is made up of different types: personal mindset, philosophical mindset, cognitive mindset, and spiritual mindset. There is an underlying process of change, involving dynamic interactions of subprocesses that may account for the formation of a person’s holistic self. Importantly, from our philosophization, a person’s holistic self, intricately linked to his holistic mindset, may aspire him to strive to achieve a state of nirvana, or self-enlightenment. Nirvana, for us, is simply not an isolated state in itself. Rather, a state of nirvana may yield positive characteristics, such as deep spiritual joy, acceptance, contentment, peace, and purity that enable a person to view life and death with a sense of optimism. Fallenness in Sein und Zeit, is the ontological path one takes to know one’s being, to know oneself, which is the penultimate task of Dasein as Being-in-the-world. As he states in Being and Time, ...being-in-the-world is always fallen, and “Falling” (Verfallen) or “Fallenness” (Verfallensein) continues to be a “definite existential characteristic of Dasein itself. The concept of fallenness is grown from seeds of tentatio, it is one’s trial to know oneself and temptation of oneself and possibilities: Being-in-the-world is tempting in oneself. The facticity of existence itself is the facticity of life. Fallen, not by choice, into the world is the effect of thrownness into-the-world. The fallenness is also the openness, to the world, to the possibilities. That is why fallenness is the characteristic of Dasein itself. The trial is not necessarily of the negative connotation, but it is also a tempting possibility. To establish the links between the early-Heideggerian temptations, trials and the later conception openness of fallenness is precisely the main task. One additional path that this paper will take is on the links of tentatio/fallenness and death. Fallenness as an existential character of Dasein, is a trial of the world, with the world; a face of infinite possibility/truth/being. This is what Heidegger calls disclosedness and Care. Being-open (disclosedness) is not complete without the “end” of the cycle: death. Thus, openness to death is part of the same ontological existence of the Dasein. The kernels of this thought are already to be found in The Phenomenology of Religious Life. In readings of Paul (particularly in Letters to Thessalonians), of Parousia, of openness and calling to death, in spite of death, are already and not yet formulations of being-towards-death. “Is not human life – trial?” – “is not human life death?” or being-towards- death? Death, as not eschatological but as openness, and care is precisely Jan Patocka’s reading of Heidegger which I will benefit from. Thus, to find the traces of Dasein’s many faces as tentatio and openness in early writings and as fallenness and being-towards-death as Care in later writings will be the overall concern of this paper.
The lifting construction process of high-rise structure is very difficult, and the unloading and demolition of lifting equipment and temporary support pose a greater challenge to the construction ...safety of high-rise structure. With the Beijiang Pearl Tower Project as the background, the unloading process of the revolving restaurant after hoisting was studied by combining Abaqus life and death element technology with unloading process monitoring. Five unloading schemes were formulated to analyze and compare the influence of different unloading sequence on the internal force of the structure. The finite element simulation results are basically consistent with the monitoring data, indicating that the technology is effective and feasible, and the combination of the two can effectively ensure the safety of the construction unloading process. The analysis results show that: for the overall lifting construction of multi-layer frame convex structure of similar high-rise structure, when unloading the temporary support, it is appropriate to first remove the secondary components outside the floor where the lifting steel strand lifting point is located, then gradually remove the steel strand load, and remove the steel strand and equipment, and finally remove the main support components near the upper and lower lifting points of steel strand.
The COVID-19 pandemic is a powerful border experience awakening us to our existential predicament. Such a predicament includes transience and impermanence, unpredictability, emptiness (existential ...vacuum), and the interdependence of life and death. The anxiety aroused by the pandemic can awaken us to an ontological mode of existence in which we are authentic, aware, responsible, and transcendent. The Chinese idiom reminds us that crises contain both danger and opportunity. Thus, this article explores how out of this awareness can emerge resilience, creativity, and meaning-making in the midst of confinement, isolation, and suffering.

Belief systems are core organizing factors of social attitudes and behaviors, and their study has highlighted the role of conservatism as a contributing mechanism in mitigating concerns associated ...with change avoidance, as well as the reduction of uncertainty and ambiguity in life. Moreover, these aspects seem to be consistently used as powerful tools in the political and social discourse of the far-right. Life and death ethics are an example of issues that deal with the need for stability and control over personal and social life that people endorsing conservative values seek to attain. There is a rich line of studies on the individual and social explanatory factors of political conservatism, but less attention has been dedicated to moral conservatism as an autonomous and meaningful concept. The current research follows a multilevel approach to disentangle the individual and contextual correlates of conservative attitudes toward life and death. Thus, besides looking at the influence of individual choices related to religion and political orientation, this study also seeks to analyse the impact of the context, introducing in the model variables measuring economic performance, social and gender inequality, religious diversity and the prevalence of materialism and post-materialism values. Multilevel models using data from the 34 countries that participated in the last wave of the European Values Study (2017–2020), revealed an association between far-right orientation and conservative attitudes toward life and death, and that this relationship is moderated by materialism/post-materialism values, economic performance, and social inequality. Our findings reinforce the role of democracy as an environment where freedom of choice and thought are indisputable rights, cherished by most of the populations, regardless of their political position or their stance on moral issues.
