Kaczvinsky focuses on Graham Swift's novel Last Orders and the Chatham Naval Memorial. Last Orders, follows the lives of four men as they take a journey to scatter the ashes of their late-friend, ...Jack Dodds, off Margate Pier. In 1996, the novel also became a test case about the ethics of imitation, pitting the notion of literary influence against the charge of plagiarism. The drive to scatter Jack's ashes is not just a personal expedition honoring the "last order" of a late friend, but a voyage back through Britain's national history to the source of its life and power, the sea. Swift handles the detour to the Naval Memorial with a complex mixture of humor and irony. One of the greatest ironies is the monument's very location.

Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is analyzed with regard to the significance of the Prince's statement in Romeo and Juliet, where he says that the sun will not show its head due to sorrow. The use of ...solar invocations throughout the play is examined and suggests that this image of the sun not showing its head carries poetic weight. The possible antecedents for this image, including Arthur Golding's Ovid and Virgil's description of the sun hiding its brightness after the death of Julius Caesar, are also tackled. Shakespeare's familiarity with these sources and his ability to combine different influences to create his own unique lines.
Con i versi dell’ Ode a Lucio Fontana (1962), Leonardo Sinisgalli rende omaggio all’amico e maestro Fontana, uno dei maggiori scultori e pittori del Novecento. Il testo sembra quindi un esempio ...abbastanza tipico di letteratura ekphrastica, nella quale spesso un artista verbale celebra l’opera di un artista visivo. L’ Ode , tuttavia, non è solo un ritratto dell’italo-argentino ma anche un autoritratto dello stesso lucano, in una fase particolarmente complessa della sua carriera. Fontana e Sinisgalli si confrontano con una serie di contraddizioni, sia personali che di carattere collettivo, nel periodo che va dal Fascismo al cosiddetto miracolo economico degli anni Sessanta.
In this paper, we want to briefly present the phenomenon of the literary influence of the choice of the original(s) by analyzing and comparing selected passages of some Slovak translations of Psalm ...91. Our analysis shows that in translation, the purposes and the denominational environment of their creation had the main influence. In addition to the presented analysis, the article offers a professional presentation and processing of an excerpt from an unpublished translation of Psalter by Ján Švec-Slavkovian.

This article argues that the dissemination of literatures across historical and cultural divides follow partly random analogical pathways, not least pushed by translations. By contrast, within ...traditional comparative literature hierarchical centre/periphery models for literary transmissions were to a large extent based on the idea of a unilateral influence moving from dominant source cultures and their canonical writers and texts to other cultures. With the aim of revising this model I will as necessary suggest analogical reasoning, understood as a bi‐directional and non‐hierarchical approach to literary dissemination as it is embedded in translatory, aesthetic and performative practices across languages and cultures. My examples are two: an early nineteenth‐century direct Danish translation from 1805 of William Shakespeare's Hamlet; and an early twentieth‐century case of cross‐media use of an indirect German translation of Chinese poetry in Gustav Mahler's symphonic work Das Lied von der Erde (1908–1909).

Este artículo recupera las interpretaciones de aquel entusiasta lector y comunicador de la poesía, a través de algunas de sus publicaciones, menos conocidas o casi olvidadas, en las que explicó relaciones e influencias literarias, rasgos estilísticos y logros significativos de algunos poetas españoles.
Oh explores the unrecognized influence of Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House books on Linda Sue Park's early novels, particularly her debut novel SeeSaw Girl. Despite Park's reticence in ...acknowledging Wilder's presence, her novels subtly reveal her long-term relationship with the Little House books. Examples of how Park unconsciously repeats Wilder's style and themes in her writing, such as rhythm, structure, and gender dynamics are discussed. She also highlights the thematic and narrative similarities between SeeSaw Girl and the Little House books, including the desire for freedom and the mother-daughter relationship. She argues that Park's rewriting of Wilder's scenes in SeeSaw Girl demonstrates her literary inheritance and the intertextual relationship between their texts. Overall, she suggests that Park's novels reflect an unrecognized literary heritage in American children's literature.
