Images of Christ have been a seminal battleground in racial politics. White representations of Christ have been tools of hegemonic domination for the last few centuries. While there have been ...attempts to "decolonize" biblical iconography, depictions of the Black Christ have elicited, on the one hand, white resentment and, on the other hand, Black self-hate. Coon Christ and Jesus of the People force whites to an admission that Christ was not a blond-haired, blue-eyed white man. They also work to force Black people to confront the fact many have inculcated in themselves what R. S. Tshaka has noted as mistaken ideas of "whiteness as being normative" and "beauty as whiteness". Jaramogi Abebe Agyeman wrote that until Black people refrained from worshipping a white Christ, the Black community would fail to build dignity.
Peter Handke's novel, "Short Letter Long Farewell," explores the American West through the eyes of an Austrian protagonist. The novel challenges the traditional Western genre by revealing the setting ...as artifice. The protagonist travels to the American West to escape his failing marriage and experiences a journey of self-discovery. He becomes aware of the mythic American landscape that has been exported to Europe through Hollywood cinema. The novel explores the influence of Hollywood films, particularly westerns, on European culture after WWII. The protagonist's encounter with legendary Hollywood director John Ford further emphasizes the role of cinema in shaping perceptions of America. Ford is portrayed as a father figure who created the cultural landscape in which the protagonist grew up. The novel blurs the lines between reality and fiction, highlighting the power of storytelling and the impact of myths on identity formation. Ultimately, the protagonist embraces his role as an actor in a world shaped by narratives, finding meaning in the rearrangement of representations of the past for the present and future.

The correspondence between Edward Young and Samuel Richardson reveals not only their reciprocal friendship, but also their complex network of authorship. Beginning with Young's Night-Thoughts ...(1742–46) and Richardson's Clarissa (1747–48), Richardson took an increasingly active role in Young's compositions, culminating in Conjectures on Original Composition (1759), while Young had a diminished effect on Richardson's writings. By viewing their work as part of a larger trajectory of literary influence, we can trace Richardson's significant impact on Conjectures on Original Composition and rightly consider him as that text's co-author, though he is framed instead as the work's recipient.
...to what extent, if at all, might the consideration of a "French Europe" in the Enlightenment period obfuscate resistance to French cultural propagation? ...recently, study of the reach of France's ...cultural influence in Europe has focused largely on canonical works of literature, forgoing a discussion of other sites of cultural exchange such as forms of sociability—Freemasonry or the salons, for example—or clothing and fashion. In Staging Civilization, he deftly incorporates cultural theory and a broad scope of historical approaches ranging from the "soft power" of cultural imperialism to histories of court culture and literary transfer. Evoking a global history of the spread of French culture left me wondering, however, how Markovits might understand the influence of the French language and theatrical performance in the many francophone theaters that dotted French colonial possessions in the eighteenth century.

Although Cicero's letter collections were known and read throughout antiquity, traces of his influence on the style of later letter writers and on the organization of their epistolary collections ...seem to diminish steadily. What remains constant in the extant collections of Cicero, Pliny, Fronto, Symmachus, and Sidonius is the large number of correspondents represented, the preponderance of letters from the period of the writer's highest prestige, and the subject matter of the letters published, which highlights the familial and wider social connections of the writers and their political, financial, and literary interests. All five collections project the ethos and values of a senatorial class.
