This review is an analytical presentation of the content of scientific articles and monographs published in the last few years and devoted to the problems of socio-economic development of the ...territories of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation (AZRF). Since the legal recognition of the AZRF, many empirical studies have been devoted to the issues of its socio-economic development. However, the literature review in them is limited to the selected narrow subject of scientific work. This circumstance creates an urgent need for a comprehensive analysis of currently relevant directions in the study of socio-economic processes in the AZRF. The purpose of this article is to demonstrate the diversity of vectors of scientific search in modern Russian studies of social and economic processes in the Arctic. The limitation of the study is the significant growth of publications on the topics of interest to us, caused by the variety of private issues covered in the latest Arctic studies. Therefore, we have selected only a few representative works that reflect the multi-vector nature of Arctic research in contemporary Russia. As a result of analyzing the works, we have found that Arctic research is characterized by both thematic and geographical diversity. The authors conditionally divide contemporary Arctic studies in Russia into three directions: interregional comparative studies within the boundaries of the entire AZRF, regional case studies, and local studies (at the level of municipalities). It is important to note that within the framework of the last two directions of research the key contribution to the multiplication of empirical material and its conceptual understanding is primarily made by scientists from regional scientific and university centers. Another peculiarity of Russian Arctic research is the shift of interest towards the study of the urban environment, industrial centers, and urbanism, while economists and sociologists pay insufficient attention to the study of the rural periphery. The observed deficit of local studies of social and economic processes in the rural Arctic in the future may lead to the rapid development of this direction in modern Russian science.
Preserving and providing access to local archives is one of the roles performed by public libraries in New South Wales. This role is not mandated, nor is it a stated priority for public libraries. ...Local government records are regulated by legislation, but what of the other records documenting the lives of rural and city communities? In many cases the library's local studies collection becomes the default home of the archives of local community organisations and of individuals whose personal papers are acquired by libraries. In some cases, the library shares the role of maintaining local archives with historical societies, museums and universities. The result is a functioning example of distributed custody, where public libraries and other local institutions take responsibility for local archives. This paper is a case study that draws on two major surveys of local studies collections undertaken by the State Library of NSW, the first in 1984 and the second in 2013-2014. It concludes that public libraries have been critical for over 50 years in ensuring that local archives have been acquired and managed, despite there being no explicit regulatory or policy frameworks for doing so.

Founded in 1421, the Collegiate Church of Manchester, which became a cathedral in 1847, is of outstanding historical and architectural importance. But until now it has not been the subject of a ...comprehensive study. Appearing on the 600th anniversary of the Cathedral’s inception by Henry V, this book explores the building’s past and its place at the heart of the world's first industrial city, touching on everything from architecture and music to misericords and stained glass. Written by a team of renowned experts and beautifully illustrated with more than 100 photographs, this history of the ‘Collegiate Church’ is at the same time a history of the English church in miniature.
In the framework of the modeling of composite beam structures, the eXtended Variational Formulation (XVF) is carried out to couple different kinematics. The purpose is to take advantages of efficient ...models and reduce the overall computational cost without loss of local precision. In this way, the structure is divided into non-overlapping domains with different kinematics. Local domains of interest are described with advanced models, such as refined Sinus model, to precisely describe local behavior, while the remaining global domain uses simple classical models. Each of the kinematics needs a suitable Finite Element (FE) approximation, therefore the coupling of different FE approximations is also addressed. The present approach is assessed on homogeneous and sandwich structures. It is compared with classical Multiple Point Constraints vias penalty. The study has shown the need of the introduction of a new operator for the layered structures. The results are very promising.

This study examines the research and publishing work of the "Committee of Pontian Studies", an association that deals with the study of the history and culture of the Greeks of Pontus. This project ...is part of the local studies, especially those concerning refugee populations from Asia Minor that were established in Greece after 1922, and presents the main ideological and methodological principles that characterize it.

This article refers to the historical evolution of the connection of the national history contents to the local history ones throughout the subject History of Cuba, in the second stage of the ...Elementary Education. For academic studies the period of the ruling Revolution is divided into four stages, where the continuous improvement of the Cuban National System of Education, since the very beginning of the triumph of the Revolution, in the teaching-learning process of the subject on focus is showed. For the stages analysis are taken into account the research elements that allows going deeper in such improvement, the methods and teaching aids, as well as the particularities of the local history contents. This analysis shows the main characteristics of the stages, and the general trends of the historical research done from the target research elements.

In the article the author analyzes ownership and contribution notes notes published in Ukrainian catalogs of Cyrillic old printed editions, which are original and indigenous objects of local studies. ...Such notes contain information about contributions and contributors, their families’ members, priests, landed estates’ owners, about the other gifts, temples building and renovation, founders and beneficiaries, about military expeditions, battles, natural phenomena. Sometimes the notes include titles of several books given to a temple or list other religious items. Notes related to the history and local studies make it possible to reconstruct some episodes of the history of Ukrainian local territories, towns, villages, communities, churches and monasteries
