We consider a tri-trophic stochastic food-chain model with harvesting. We first establish critical values between persistence in mean and extinction for each species. The results show that ...persistence and extinction of a species only depends on the demographic impacts of environmental stochasticity on the species and species at lower tropic levels; however, the mean abundance of a species depends on the impacts of environmental stochasticity at all trophic levels. Then we consider stability in distribution of the model. Finally, we provide a necessary and sufficient condition for existence of optimal harvesting strategy and give the optimal harvesting effort and maximum of sustainable yield. The results show that the optimal harvesting strategy is closely related to the stochastic noises in the model.

The management of natural resource is critically important for the sustainable development of economy, and it remained a greatly debatable topic over the past few decades. Although, a lot of ...discussions has been made on the role of technology for effective utilization of natural resources. However, none of the study in the past has explored the role of financial technology (fintech) to manage natural resources. To address shortcomings of literature, this study intends to estimate the extent to which fintech development, renewable energy consumption, FDI and government effectiveness contribute towards the effective management of natural resources. A panel of 22 selected countries has been adopted in this paper, we employed annual data ranging from 2006 to 2021. Using Panel-Corrected Standard Errors (PCSE) approach empirical results were computed. The findings reveal that fintech development positively influence natural resource management. Renewable energy consumption and FDI also significantly influence the indicator of natural resources management. Keeping in view significance of governance mechanism, this paper also explored role of government effectiveness in managing natural resources. The findings confirmed the positive role of government effectiveness to manage natural resources. In contrast, the role of urbanization was found to be negative, indicating that increasing level of urbanization put huge pressure on the management of natural resources. The study holds promising implications for the development of policies for the management of natural resources.

The question of how agricultural knowledge and innovation systems (AKISs) can address the issue of sustainable management of natural resources (SMNR) is presented in this conference paper. This ...literature review, which collected published research from the Scopus electronic database, aimed to explore the value of AKISs in enhancing the sustainability of natural resources. Therefore, it examined and evaluated the roles of AKISs as either positive or negative overall. Moreover, it analyzed whether the use of AKISs supports the goal of creating a sustainable system that links agriculture with natural resources. Among its findings, this review presents the positive and negative outcomes of each element and potential future scenarios/suggestions if the current trends persist.
Resumen:El estudio pretende determinar la concepción que tiene en Andalucía Oriental el profesorado del Ciclo Formativo de Gestión Forestal sobre las competencias profesionales que han de adquirir ...los estudiantes que cursan el título de referencia, para lo cual se pretenden definir las dimensiones que permitan determinar las competencias agrupadas en unidades de competencia y analizar el grado de importancia que conceden los docente a cada una de las competencias definidas. Se partió de una población de 126 profesores, realizando un muestreo incidental, cuya muestra suministradora de datos fue de 102 profesores, de los cuales 68 son hombres y 34 son mujeres. Se realizó un estudio descriptivo-inferencial, de carácter exploratorio-transversal. El estudio descriptivo utilizó como medias de tendencia central: medias y medianas, y como medida de dispersión, la desviación típica. Al cumplirse la normalidad de la curva, el estudio inferencial se realizó con la t de Student, para las variables de segmentación dicotómicas.
Using a qualitative approach, this study assessed the contribution of state and community initiatives to the sustainable management of the Buabeng-Fiema Monkey Sanctuary (BFMS) in Ghana. The study ...found an evolving trend in the management of the sanctuary from its earlier ineffective sole community and state-led management models to the current co-management model involving communities' representatives and state actors. The co-management model was widely seen as being more effective as it facilitates effective planning, policy formulation, revenue mobilization and utilization, monitoring, and evaluation as well as protecting the environment and wildlife resources.

Protected area management can be highly contentious. Information about the acceptability of conservation actions can help environmental authorities design policies that are accepted locally, and ...identify potential areas of conflict between land users and conservation objectives. In this study, we implemented a spatially-explicit method for eliciting public preferences for land use and conservation policy (web-based public participation GIS; PPGIS). We invited randomly selected local residents in two mountainous regions in Norway to map their preferences for consumptive resource use, motorized use, land development and predator-control. We assessed whether local communities favored or opposed these human activities in nearby protected areas using mixed-effects logistic regression and controlling for landscape characteristics, accessibility and demographics. Local residents strongly favored consumptive resource use and predator control regardless of protected area status, and were more likely to oppose than favor land development inside protected areas. These preferences are largely consistent with the present protected area policy in Norway and Europe that promotes traditional consumptive use and the maintenance of cultural landscapes, but restricts land development. Our results suggest that use-based framing of conservation is more likely to resonate with these communities than narratives tied to the preservation of pristine nature and emerging conservation ideas of the rewilding of nature. Mapped community preferences can be a valuable tool for policy makers and stakeholders representing community interests in participatory processes, and for assessing the local acceptance of alternative management actions within protected areas.

Cities—being places where both growth at large and human activity concentrate to the maximum extent, as well as being places of creation, innovation, and development—have been facing the challenge of ...adaptation to changing climate conditions. Successive greening of urban spaces is becoming an indicator of civilisational progress and one of the most important aspects of sustainable urban development and quality of life of city dwellers. It also represents a part of the sustainable management of natural resources and energy in the urban environment. This article addresses the subject of urban space greening, perceived as one of the ways of mitigating the effects of climate change. The study focuses on a comparative analysis of various planning and implementing activities related to green areas, as well as on available quantitative data on the greening and climate change adaptation of 44 Polish cities with urban adaptation plans (UAPs) in place. The research, covering the years 2017–2023, identifies the variety of urban greening methods, initiatives, and tools used in the process of urban planning and urban design. The results of the study showed that measures planned by local authorities lacked detailed tools as well as a long-term and systemic approach to greenery, energy, and space management. On the other hand, what was observed in the implementation was an apparent prevalence of urban acupuncture spots and a failure to make the most of all the benefits of the adaptive, social, and ecosystem-forming role of urban greening. The authors imply that their research can be used to formulate conclusions and guidelines for urban development policies which highlight the role and raise the importance of the greening of Polish cities under all urban investments, particularly in the process of adaptation of urban areas to climate change.

The presence of natural resources within the boundaries of a state can be viewed in two different ways: as a source of general benefits (natural resources - "blessing") or more oft en as a source of ...an unstable security state (natural resources - "curse"). In many countries that abound in the natural resources of economic performance that are driven by their sustainable use, they are limited by the emergence and development of a variety of different security threats (corruption, violent separatist movements, civil war). Experiential results of a number of research studies suggest that there is a unique symbiotic relationship between natural resources and violent conflicts. The paradoxical situation is the underdeveloped countries rich in natural resources (Nigeria, South Sudan, Indonesia) where slow economic growth with accompanying political and social distortion is present. On the other hand, there are examples of successful management of natural resources with all positive economic performance across the whole community (Norway, Chile, Botswana). The aim of this paper is to attempt to present (a systematic review of literature) a number of negative security aspects that appear in the management of natural resources.
Depending on Iraqi constitution the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has signed more than sixty oil and gas contracts with international oil companies (IOCs). These contracts have ignited ...significant disputes between the KRG and the federal government. The Iraqi government claims that KRG's contracts are illegal and the KRG has misused Iraqi natural resources. On the contrary, the KRG argues that Iraqi constitution has granted the KRG the right to manage its natural resources. The purpose of this paper is to examine the extent to which the Iraqi constitution grants KRG the power to sign oil contracts with IOCs. To investigate this issue, KRG's oil contracts are mainly analyzed under the light of (1) Iraqi constitution, (2) draft of oil and gas law in Iraq and (3) Kurdistan's oil and gas law. Further, primary data are collected by interviewing thirty Parliamentary members in Iraq. The paper found that the Iraqi constitution has granted the KRG's enactment of oil and gas law and the power to sign oil contracts with IOCs. However, the KRG has exceeded its power in its law and contracts by waiving of sovereign immunity for IOCs. Thus, major amendments of KRG's oil and gas law are recommended to be in line with Iraqi constitution. Transparency and decentralization of the KRG's petroleum policy are also recommended.
