In Europe and in Hungary, there are a large number of built heritage assets. Nowadays castles can be reused as schools, common lodging houses, hospitals or residential buildings. The optimal way to ...reuse them is as museums, hotels and event venues for tourist purposes. The current study aims to present and evaluate the adaptive reuse of castles as hotels and assess the interest of local residents, leaders and castle-owners. The research focuses on the advantages and disadvantages of castle hotels in the life of the settlements. The case studies were conducted in Somogy County, where several castle hotels are located. Interviews and surveys are essential research methods. The research emphasizes the need for co-operation, which is indispensable for reusing the castles as hotels, to satisfy all stakeholders.
In the early modern era, when the Swedes waged war outside their own territory, they passed on the duty of supplying food and funding the army to the occupied territories (the war was supposed to ...feed itself). The practice of collecting contributions was based on the experience of the Thirty Years’ War, which was introduced in Germany by the armies of Gustav II Adolphus. Apart from financial contributions and provisions, the occupied terri-tories had to pay brandskatt, an additional enforced tax to protect the occupied lands from looting and destruction. The aim of this paper is, a.o., to determine the position of brandskatt in the extraordinary war taxes imposed on the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The basic source is the Warsaw brandskatt register of 1655 found in the Riksarkivet in Stockholm.
Dowagers played an active role in politics and culture at the courts of the Holy Roman Empire. They were mothers, advisers and patrons of the arts. The rulers had to provide them with an appropriate ...dowry and a residence. For the first time, the book describes the architecture and the ceremonial use of dower residences from the 15th to the 17th century from an art historical point of view. Focusing on functional changes and conversion of the castles, the author shows how the dowagers expressed their new independence in an architectural and spatial way.
The article is devoted to a special phenomenon in the architectural and historical environment of Tobolsk – stone merchant houses of the second half of the 18th century in the context of the ...development of urban stone construction of the late 17th-18th centuries. The study considers the preserved dwelling houses, characterises the architectural, planning and stylistic features of the buildings, and provides an assessment of their current state in the aspect of heritage preservation. The study is accompanied by historical and modern photos made by the authors in the period 2006-2022.
Temporary organizations are known to provide flexibility for industries that rely on them, but we know little about their implications for how work is accomplished and coordinated. In this paper, I ...propose that common portrayals of temporary organizations as ephemeral and unstable are inaccurate: Temporary organizations are in fact organized around structured role systems whose nuances are negotiated in situ. This paper analyzes one type of temporary organization, film projects, exploring the way in which roles both organize immediate work and maintain continuity across different projects. On each film set, role expectations are communicated through practices of enthusiastic thanking, polite admonishing, and role-oriented joking, which enable crew members to learn and negotiate role structures. Two important structural characteristics of film projects provide the organizational context within which coordination takes place: interorganizational career progression and projects as temporary total institutions. By showing how these structural elements and role enactments support one another, this work generates a more complete understanding of the conditions that affect coordination, including role duration, expectations of future interaction, and visibility of work.

Understanding the spread of asset bubbles is pivotal to the effectiveness of risk management. This study thus estimates housing bubbles and investigates how and to what extent price bubbles spread ...between the tiers of luxury and mass housing in Hong Kong. The results show that price bubbles spread between housing tiers, the spreading of bubbles is not uni-directional from luxury to mass tiers, and more than 60% of bubbles come from inter-tier spreading. Moreover, bubble shocks from the luxury tier have stronger spreading influences on the movements of bubbles in the mass housing tier than the other way around during the period before the end of the global financial crisis (GFC), whereas the opposite is true for the period after GFC. The findings are important for policy makers attempting to tackle soaring housing bubbles, financial institutions seeking to managing lending risk, and housing investors wanting to time the submarkets.
The paper introduces an innovative methodology that combines photogrammetry and laser scanning techniques to create detailed 3D models of historic mansions within the Kifissia region of Attica, ...Greece. While photogrammetry excels in capturing intricate textures, it faces challenges such as lighting variations and precise image alignment. On the other hand, laser scanning offers precision in capturing geometric details but struggles with reflective surfaces and large datasets. Our study integrates these methods to leverage their strengths and address limitations, resulting in comprehensive and accurate digital twins of cultural spaces. The methodology section outlines the step-by-step process of integration, emphasizing solutions to specific challenges encountered in the study area. Preliminary results showcase the enhanced fidelity and completeness of the digital twins, demonstrating the effectiveness of the combined approach. The subsequent sections of the paper delve into a detailed presentation of the methodology, provide a comprehensive analysis of obtained results, and discuss the implications of this innovative approach in cultural preservation and broader applications.
