The article presents the content analysis of posts posted on the teachers Facebook group Me, The Teacher. The material comes from two periods: March–June 2020 (the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic) ...and December 2021 (the last moment when distance learning was common in schools). Teachers’ perspective, the biggest challenges during COVID-19 pandemic and the most popular strands from teachers’ narratives were presented. The article discusses such topics as: preparing schools for remote work, teaching competences related to online work, school rituals, the caring function of the school and the trust of the teaching community in the government and the decisions they make.
Introduction. The unexpected situations (lockdown, online school, social distancing) introduced from March 2020 to stop the spread of COVID-19 in most countries worldwide, have affected every ...citizen. Currently, after more than a year and a half, one of the most affected categories are the children. There is growing concern among researchers about the pandemic impact on the physical, mental development and health of children. Material and methods. A quantitative research was conducted among parents and their children from a gymnasium school in Bucharest regarding the way they perceive how the pandemic restrictions changed their habits. The research methods used were online, using questionnaires created and applied through Google forms. No sample methods could be applied and about 40% of them responded in pairs parent-child. Results. The results showed that the impact of online schooling is not only about the learning effectiveness, but mostly related to the health and development of children who are at risk from the increased time spent on the Internet. Health issues like sedentary lifestyle, obesity, vision and posture impairment, spine problems have increased, being doubled by psychical and mental disorders: stress, isolation, anxiety, depression, lack of attention and concentration, as well as an increase in the number of children exposed to cyberbullying and other online risks. Conclusions. The study analysis showed that there are differences between parents and children's perceptions of the collateral side effects of the pandemic both on physical and mental health of children.
This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of online and homeschool attendance in transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) youth.
Caregivers of 12- to 17-year-olds participated in a phone survey ...about school attendance. Subjects included TGD youth receiving care in a gender health clinic and youth receiving care in a pediatric endocrinology/diabetes (PED) clinic.
Parents of 83 TGD and 83 PED youth participated in the study. Current/past enrollment in a nontraditional school setting was higher among TGD than PED youth (37.3% vs. 19.3%; p = .01). In addition, 14.5% of TGD and 7.2% of PED youth had transferred between traditional school settings (public, private, and charter) for psychosocial reasons.
Approximately half of the TGD youth had either attended a nontraditional school setting or changed schools for psychosocial reasons, compared with approximately one fourth of PED youth (51.8% vs. 26.5%, p = .001). This suggests that traditional school environments present significant psychological difficulties for TGD adolescents.

The current context determined by the social distancing has changed the way of carrying out the learning activities which are taught and evaluated at school; during this situation the Romanian and ...also the global education system faced an unprecedented challenge, namely the transfer of the whole school activity to the online environment. Given this situation, we analyzed data from national and international studies in order to have an overview of the characteristics of digitization and existing digital skills, especially in the Romanian education system. This analysis allowed the understanding of the structure on which this sudden digitization developed and the premises of public policies on which the process was built. The analysis was combined with the presentation of projects carried out during this period, in order to prepare the various school actors in the field of digital education in the form of recommendations to support the empowerment processes in training digital skills of teachers and students in the current context and on a long-term.
Aim.
To study the possibilities and limitations of the social network as a digital medical tool, which is aimed at improving programs for primary and secondary stroke prevention in young people.
...Material and methods
. The study was carried out in the format of online training for volunteers. At the first stage of the work, the online school “Stroke in Young People” was announced in 8 medical blogs. As part of the school, a special account was created for readers (n=1354). At the second stage, 49 respondents (4% of men, whose average age was 24.4±5.2 years) were selected from 1354 listeners, who were surveyed on “Awareness of risk factors and stroke symptoms among users of social networks” before and after the online school.
Results.
The online school audience is predominantly female (91%), and 43% of readers were in the 25-34 age group. The total number of people who listened to and read the online school material is 8712 people. 17% worked in the healthcare system, and 22% of respondents had a history of stroke. 38 (78%) people of the 2nd stage among the respondents independently searched for information about stroke earlier, and 30 (61%) received this information passively from medical workers in 2020. Before the online school start, the majority of respondents (over 60%) were aware of 2 out of 7 stroke risk factors (dyslipidemia and arterial hypertension) and 3 out of 6 stroke signs (drooping of the face half, weakness in the limbs and difficulty speaking). Less than 40% of the participants considered the stroke risk factors for diabetes mellitus, other cardiovascular diseases (CVD), obesity, and alcohol use; less than 20% were aware of stroke symptoms such as impaired vision and coordination and very severe headache. After completing online learning, the greatest increase in knowledge was found among the following risk factors – smoking and other CVDs (p<0.05); stroke symptoms - headache and drooping of the face half (p<0.05).
Conclusion
. The online school aroused interest among healthcare workers and people without medical education, including those with stroke. Most of the respondents believed that they knew how to prevent a stroke (over 80%) and would be able to provide first aid to a person with a stroke (over 90%). At the same time, the awareness of risk factors and stroke symptoms was low prior to the start of learning, even though the study included healthcare workers and stroke survivors. Online learning has led to increased awareness of some risk factors and stroke symptoms. Social media can be one of the tools for medical prevention of stroke in young people, but program planning should take into account the way the material is presented and its readability.
Obesity is the accumulation of excessive fat in the body as a result of an imbalance in the amount of energy that enters and leaves the body. One of the causes of obesity is sedentary behavior. ...Sedentary behavior makes the activity passive. Behavior changes are also happening at this time due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Pandemic makes all activities to be carried out from the home to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus, like studying from home. Online school is considered more passive than offline school because when a rest period that can be used for physical movement through interacting with friends like playing together. Whereas online school, teenagers are only more dominant in being silent in front of a laptop or smartphone. This study aims to determine the effect of online school on sedentary behavior at risk of obesity in adolescents. This type of research is a quantitative study using a cross-sectional design. The number of respondents in this study consisted of 267 people. Data was obtained through the results of questionnaires which were conducted online using Google Forms. The results showed that online schools had a high risk of sedentary behavior by 49,1%, 44.9% of moderate risk, and less risk by 6,0%. Statistical test using chi-square obtained p-value=0,008 (α=0,05). So it can be concluded that there is an effect of online schooling on sedentary behavior that is at risk of obesity in adolescents aged 15-19 years in the city of Medan.
In Finland, online learning has become more common in recent years. In this study, we examined why adult students chose to study online for upper secondary school. The research also focused on the ...support needed for learning from a special education perspective. Both qualitative and quantitative data were collected using an electronic questionnaire. In total, 58 students responded. Data were analyzed qualitatively using the content analysis technique. The findings indicate that the main reasons for online studies are similar in Finland to those found internationally: flexibility of timetables, the student's health condition, and family situations. The findings also indicate that a student's school history leads them to choose online studies. This history included a lack of support, health issues, bullying, and too large class size. Suggested future research and practical implications also are discussed.
Children across the United States of America are maturing in a media-saturated society. Unfortunately, this often results in poor content choices and evaluative skills. North American schools have ...attempted to address this problem through information literacy skills. One role key to teaching these skills is the role of the school librarian. Unfortunately, although much research is available on this role in traditional schools, little research was found on the school librarian’s role and responsibilities in a fully online school. In this study, two online school principals were interviewed regarding skills required to teach information literacy; who in their school was responsible for teaching these skills and how these skills were taught. Results indicate that although there is much potential for teaching information literacy in a fully online school, the reality often falls short due to a chopping up of school librarian duties into tasks assigned to several individuals.
