The course handouts were an important resource for Parisian students, particularly in law, linked to the very conditions of schooling. While the products delivered by commercial houses were ...expensive, students and student associations published them. This article focuses on several of these initiatives, that took place in the 1950s and 1970s, at the Faculty of Law , the Faculty of Letters, the Institute of Political Studies, and it studies their organization, achievements, difficulties and setbacks.
This book advances knowledge about the implementation of peace and non-violence strategies in education that counter violence. Addressing both hidden and direct violence, it examines the harm to ...wellbeing and learning through a unique exploration of the role of teachers, and confronts the roots of violence in educational settings. Presenting and critiquing a range of pedagogical tools, case examples, and research, it examines how various methods can be used for identifying and proactively responding to conflicts such as injustice, discrimination, and prejudice, among others. Contributors present case studies from a range of global contexts and offer cutting-edge research on the applications of these resources, and how they contextualize peace education. An essential read for educators, teacher educators and peace scholars, it crucially offers pathways for confronting and healing from violence in both formal and informal sites of education.
Public awareness on gender education may not be easily translated in living classrooms, which prompts new alternatives. In this study, we explored Shakespearean graphic novels in exposing Malaysian ...school students to gender-related issues. The two-fold research entails tracing the female presence in eight selected images from digital graphic novels that define the gender and place social expectations across the globe; and secondly, gathering teachers' perception of these selected graphic novels. The chosen images were divided into two categories-those published as the cover pages of graphic novels and those that were contested for the Graphic Shakespeare Competition established in 2016. These stereotypical images of women are inconsistent with the objective of achieving inclusivity and correct gender representations. The data analysed based on a semi-structured interview on six ESL teachers suggest that as much as the graphic novels are seen as valuable in pedagogical contexts and in exposing the students to learning English and gender representations through literature, the material selection, and pedagogical approaches, including determining the classroom activities must be cautiously considered in terms of their cultural appropriateness to ensure students' readiness and effective outcomes. Discussing these pertinent issues, especially in addressing gender (mis)representations relevant to education, helps pave a new route within the UN SDG Goal 5 where gender nuances and phrases ought to be carefully constructed in a new narrative that shapes global perception towards women.
Recent research highlights the importance of providing teacher candidates with opportunities to approximate practice. Less attention focuses on tools teacher educators use within and surrounding ...approximations to focus candidates’ attention on features of practice. This multi-case study investigates how three teacher educators use different approximations in ways that strategically reduce the complexity of learning to teach and scaffold the development of practice. Data indicate teacher educators capitalized on four tools that scaffolded and shaped approximations into spaces for co-constructing shared understandings of practice. These tools include: instructional activities, representations of practice, planning templates, and specified texts and instructional goals.
•Multi-case study of approximations in three ELA methods courses.•Approximations may serve as a space for developing shared practice.•Tools used by teacher educators serve as scaffolds for approximations.•Two new structures and routines for approximations are presented.

Communication through language is crucial to properly disseminate knowledge and new discoveries in all disciplines. Traité élémentaire de chimie by Antoine Lavoisier is regarded as the first modern ...Chemistry textbook and can be utilized as a teaching tool for interdisciplinary studies within the fields of Chemistry and French. A contemporary rereading of Lavoisier’s text offers insight into the Chemistry being performed in the Eighteenth century which was recorded and shared using Eighteenth century French language. A reexamination of this historical text provides a variety of pedagogical exercises that can be used across the two disciplines. From chemical principles to unit conversions to shifts in French orthography, Traité élémentaire de chimie possesses a wealth of knowledge that can be enjoyed by a wide audience within the humanities and natural sciences. Lavoisier’s Traité élémentaire de chimie can be employed in several different courses providing chemical principles for science courses while serving as a historical French writing sample for advanced French composition courses.
The systemic complexity of sustainable development imposes a major cognitive challenge to students' learning. Faculty can explore new approaches in the classroom to teach the topic successfully, ...including the use of technology. We conducted an experiment to compare the effectiveness of a simulation vis-à-vis a case-based method to teach sustainable development. We found that both pedagogical methods are effective for teaching this concept, although our results support the idea that simulations are slightly more effective than case studies, particularly to teach its multidimensional and inter-temporal nature. Therefore, our findings suggest the use of both simulations and case studies as pedagogical tools to convey the main ideas associated with sustainable development.
