Since the 1950s, 3-dimensional virtual environments (3DVEs) have been developed to simulate real-world experiences. These virtual worlds have evolved with realistic graphics and large numbers of ...users with whom to engage in virtual representations of real-life situations. This study investigated how students perceived the usefulness of Second Life (SL) as a tool for teaching research methods to a doctoral-level qualitative research class. Two classes of doctoral students were assigned to groups of three students and were charged with conducting an ethnographic study in a SL community. Students conducted observations and interviews of community members as a simulation of conducting ethnographic research in an unfamiliar culture. Data sources included an end-of-course survey, observation field notes, interview transcriptions, journals, discussion board posts, and video conferencing. Nineteen students agreed to have their data included for analysis. Results indicate that SL provided an innovative means for teaching important aspects of qualitative research, such as securing key informants, gatekeeping, observing and taking field notes, and interviewing, among others. Students experienced the affective aspects of conducting research as well, including how to handle rejection and frustration, the need for flexibility, interacting in a strange world, and how to handle awkward situations, sometimes with hilarious results. While the majority of students found SL to be an innovative way to learn research skills, a few experienced technical glitches, causing frustration that hindered their learning. Students created a list of tips for new users of SL to ease their transition into the virtual environment.

We have identified the levels of formation of healthy lifestyle of primary school children (aged 6 - 7) as high, medium and low.
Conclusions: The organizational and pedagogical conditions for the formation of the healthy lifestyle principles of children aged 6-7during curriculum and extracurriculum activities are: axiological approach application to the formation of healthy lifestyle principles; strengthening positive attitude of primary school children (aged 6-7) toward the healthy lifestyle principles formation; organizational, methodological and pedagogical support of the healthy lifestyle principles of primary school students. It has been found that the implementation of the proposed tools contributes to better understanding of healthy lifestyle importance and develop means to be fit and healthy.
The intertwine of process and genre-based approach enables writers to develop genre or text-type awareness while they were learning to write. While much research has been conducted in English as ...Foreign Language (EFL) context, only a few studies describe how process and genre integration in teaching paragraph writing leads to activities that play the role as a mediation of learning. This paper elaborates students' voices on their experience to use paragraph writing pedagogical tools, such as paragraph planning template and five steps paragraph drafting template to write first draft of paragraph writing. A narrative inquiry with three participants was set for this study. Data analysis revealed that three themes emerged: changing assumptions that writing is merely individual expression, enhancing language awareness, and nurturing habit that writing is a process.
Purpose: The study is exploratory and aims to investigate students' learning experience in a supply chain management (SCM) course at a university in Bahrain. The selected learning skills were ...cognitive, affective and interactive, whereas the adopted pedagogical tools were case analysis, evaluative essay and game exercise. Design/methodology/approach: A questionnaire survey was distributed to undergraduate students enrolled in an SCM course at a university in Bahrain. Descriptive and inferential statistical analysis techniques were used. Inferential analysis tests were principal component analysis, Kruskal--Wallis analysis of variance and Dunn's post hoc pairwise comparison test. Findings: Results are inconclusive but revealed significant differences in students' perceptions of learning skills among the adopted teaching methods. Significant differences in the perceived learning skills were found between the evaluative essay and the case analysis and between the report and the game exercise. The game exercise was the most useful technique in improving students' interactive, cognitive and affective skills, followed by case analysis and evaluative essay. Research limitations/implications: As the sample of this study consisted of students enrolled in a particular SCM course at a University in Bahrain, the small sample size may restrict the study's conclusive findings. Practical implications: It is recommended to establish an experiential or problem-based learning support unit to assist faculty in the planning, design and development of pedagogical and assessment tools. Originality/value: The research findings are expected to help design, assess and enhance students' learning experience in SCM and other business courses that adopt a process-based experiential learning perspective.
Our experience with business and economic students indicates limited understanding and confidence when working with macroeconomic data such as unemployment rate, labor force participation rate, ...business cycles, and price indexes. To close this gap, the authors have developed and evaluated a college classroom experiential activity defined as the Storytelling Project (SP) conducted in nine principles of economics courses in a mid-size private university over a period of two years during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the SP, students wrote personal stories that assisted them in connecting with their audience and then visually presented complex economic data. A workbook supplemented the SP with learning objectives, tasks, multiple examples of data analysis, storytelling techniques, and videos. Participants completed a self-efficacy and attitude survey of perceived cognition, confidence, and motivation and took an assessment to evaluate cognitive competencies. The survey and assessment results were compared against students who did not complete the SP. Our results indicate that the SP and the workbook are effective experiential learning activities that improve data analysis and communication skills among college students. Students show more confidence and motivation in macroeconomics and data analysis at the end of the semester. Knowledge or cognitive competency is ranked higher among those completing the SP.
Secondary schools as part of the foundational level of education cannot afford to lag behind in using multimedia to improve the intellectual and creative capabilities among the teachers and students. ...This study investigated multimedia technologies as modern pedagogical tools for strategic improvement on the teaching and learning process. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. The population was the senior secondary school students and teachers in Kuje Area Council of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nigeria. A simple random sampling technique was used to select 250 students and 100 teachers. Cronbach's alpha statistical tool was used to obtain a reliability coefficient of 0.83 on validated questionnaires which were distributed to collect data from the respondents. Statistically, mean, standard deviation, percentage and partial correlation were used to answer the research questions while t-test and Chi-Square were used to test the postulated hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings showed that television sets, projectors and computers were the major multimedia facilities used for teaching and learning in the council, multimedia facilities had a high influence on teaching and learning. It was gathered that multimedia enriched teaching cognitive skills and psychomotor skills and developed concretization of abstraction on any subject matter. Some recommendations were made which included the provision of financial support to procure multimedia facilities to schools towards the attainment of educational objectives, provision of subsiding policies by the government on the importation of multimedia facilities, employment of competent and experienced technical staff should be employed to solve a series of technical problems in using multimedia facilities. Experimental research design on the effectiveness of multimedia facilities as modern pedagogical tools for strategic improvement on teaching and learning was proposed for future work.
