For the purpose of examining the difficulties in daily living among house-dwelling people with mental disorders, a self-administered questionnaire survey was administered to 45 pairs of patients and ...their families living together in Oita County.The comparison between the difficulties perceived by the patients and the needs for help assessed by the corresponding families demonstrated a great discrepancy in the details of these two viewpoints. Gender difference in the discrepancy was also observed. This discrepancy can be referred to by public health nurses occupied in case management dealing with home-help service and so on for house-dwelling people with mental disorders.
Ljudsko dostojanstvo nije samo etička kategorija, već i pojam koji je sadržan u određenom broju međunarodnih dokumenata i nacionalnih zakona. Povrh toga, njegova je vrijednost i relevantnost u tome ...što bi kao transcendentalna kategorija trebalo biti implicirano u postupanjima pojedinaca i adresata pravnih normi, a pravna norma bi ga uvijek, kad je o čovjeku riječ, trebala najaviti kao jedno od najviših načela na kojima se temelji propis. S aspekta obiteljskog prava, ljudsko dostojanstvo nije uvijek bilo zaštićeno jednako u odnosu na pojedince, poglavito glede žena, djece i osoba s duševnim smetnjama. Povijesni razvoj svjedoči o priznavanju ljudskog dostojanstva i njegovoj, štoviše eksplicitnoj pravnoj zaštiti, usporedo s priznavanjem ljudskih prava i posebnih prava koje pravni sustavi i društvena zajednica u cjelini jamče posebnim kategorijama kao što su žene, djeca i osobe lišene poslovne sposobnosti. Ljudsko dostojanstvo pretočeno je u normama obiteljskog prava u ravnopravnost žene i muškarca, u sustav djetetovih prava i posebne društvene skrbi za osobe koje nisu sposobne brinuti se o sebi samima.
In Japan, various welfare services are provided for different kinds of disabilities based on the certification system. Even though, recently, it is claimed that the certification system is not ...sufficient for some of disabled people with higher brain dysfunctions, i.e. disturbances of frontal lobe functions. One of the reasons might be the lack of flexibility of the system applying for people with combined impairments of physical and mental functions. Considering these circumstances, Japanese government started the model project for people with higher brain dysfunctions since 2001. It will last three years and the committee of project is going to write a report in order to promote a policy for such people. In this article, the author introduced the general picture of model project.
One of the main obstacles to integrating individuals with severe mental disorders into society today is the stigma directed at them. Although breakthroughs in treatment have been made in recent ...years, many professionals continue to admit that they do not possess enough training to combat this problem. Considering this situation, the present study analyzes the existing stigma among University Education students in three countries with different education systems and cultures, namely Spain, Russia, and Canada. A total of 1,542 students from these three countries participated in the study. ANOVA, MANOVA, and Multigroup Confirmatory Factor Analysis were applied in the data analysis. The results showed that the highest rates of stigma were in Spain and the lowest were in Canada, while Russia displayed intermediate values. This work addresses the relevance of these results, the influence that cultural difference may have on education policies, and the need to implement anti-stigma programs in countries like Spain, which has a relatively high level of social stigma and where these programs are practically not applied at all.
People with serious mental disorders (PSMDs) are overrepresented both in prison deaths and during fatal encounters with the police in the community (deaths after police contact, DAPC). To identify ...common factors present across cases of who died during contact with the criminal justice system in Queensland, publicly available coroners reports were analysed (N = 38). The findings of the study indicated psychosis and mood disorders were the most common diagnosis in incarcerated PSMD deaths, and suicide was the most common cause of death for incarcerated PSMDs. Within incarcerated settings, access to healthcare records, medication compliance, risk assessment and monitoring, and safe housing of at‐risk prisoners may be potential areas to explore with regard to prevention. Similarly, PSMD DAPCs were more likely to be experiencing mood or psychosis disorders than other forms of mental disorder, and suicide and police shootings were the most common causes of death. In PSMD DAPC, inadequate mental health access, treatment noncompliance and comorbid substance use were included as potential areas that could direct research efforts toward prevention.

With the aim of clarifying the challenges and responses that psychiatric visiting nurses are facing in promoting collaboration with care managers in supporting older people with mental disorders, ...interviews were conducted involving 6 psychiatric visiting nurses from 3 psychiatric visiting nursing stations, and the obtained data were analyzed using a qualitative and inductive approach. As the results, the following 4 core-categories were extracted : older people requiring both mental and physical care which has been provided by family members, care managers’ lack of ability to support the lives of older people with mental disorders, dilemma in which collaboration does not progress in the community, and visiting nursing is a bridge between home care and disability support. In the provision of psychiatric visiting nursing intervention for older people with physical care needs who have untreated psychiatric disorders and have been cared for only by their family members for many years, it was indicated that: the collaboration is difficult due to care managers’ lack of knowledge on patients with mental illness and mental disorders and skills to observe them ; that care managers do not understand the role of psychiatric visiting nurses ; that there are some issues related to long-term care insurance in promoting support ; and that psychiatric visiting nurses are considering to proactively promote collaboration among multiple professions.
