Karol Pahor (1896–1974) se je kot skladatelj proslavil na več ravneh in je prepoznan je kot eden najznačilnejših učencev Slavka Osterca, njegov opus pa kaže na slogovno raznolikost, ki je posledica ...različnih dejavnikov. Kot skladatelj namreč odstopa od običajnih stereotipov, za katere velja, da se komponist v mladih letih opira na svoje učitelje, se nato izostri in profilira v lastno smer, ki ga vodi naprej in ob novih aktualnih kompozicijskih šolah pogosto spreminja. Skušali bomo ugotoviti, kakšne vzore in nazore je imel skozi različna obdobja in kako ga je kot skladatelja oblikovalo okolje, v katerem je živel in deloval.

Louis Adamič (1898–1951) je bil najuspešnejši slovenski izseljenski pisatelj. Že samo dejstvo, da je domala vsa svoja dela posvetil družbenim in kulturnim vprašanjem svojih dveh domovin, kaže na ...njegovo izrazito dvonacionalno družbeno-kulturno vpetost. Čeprav je pisal v angleščini, se ravnovesje med slovensko in ameriško komponento njegove kulturne identitete ni nikoli omajalo. Ker je ameriško priseljenstvo opazoval kot insider in hkrati kot outsider, je bil njegov vpogled v priseljenska vprašanja toliko kompleksnejši. Zato se v zadnjem času znova razkriva presenetljiva aktualnost Adamičevih konceptov in pogledov na vprašanja nacionalne, etnične in kulturne identitete ter medkulturnih odnosov, zlasti tistih znotraj nacionalne skupnosti.
The paper addresses the notion of public interest in spatial planning, particularly the redefinition of public interest within the context of neoliberal urban politics and planning. It tries to ...demonstrate that instruments of neoliberal urban planning change and reduce the role of public interest. As for the societies that have experienced the so called post-socialist societal transformation, the paper presents the argument that there are strong contradictions between the unitaryconcept of public interest embodied in statutary rules and the appearance of new urban actors and urban developers.
Avtorica zagovarja nujnost upoštevanja kulturnega konteksta pri raziskavah nove književnosti in opozarja na kategorijo pluralizma oziroma "nehierarhizirane raznorodnosti", tipično za sodobno kulturo ...v zadnjem desetletju. V stilu poljske proze 90. let odkriva nasprotujoče si težnje: estetiziranje, intelektualiziranje ter poudarjanje grdote, jezikovne banalizacije in vulgarizacije. Primerja jih s sorodnimi pojavi v sedanji kulturi: z estetizacijo stvarnosti, z estetikama nostalgije in "nove brutalnosti" ter anestetiko in s prekoračenjem tradicionalnega vrednostnega kanona.
This book discusses the role of cultural practices and policy for sustainable development in West Africa across different artistic disciplines, including performance, video, theatre, community arts ...and cultural heritage. Based on ethnographic field research in local communities, the book presents findings on current debates of cultural sustainability in Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon and Benin. It provides a unique perspective connecting cultural studies, conflict studies and practical peacebuilding approaches through the arts. The first part pays particular attention to aspects of social cohesion and the circumstances of internally displaced persons e. g. caused by the Boko Haram insurgency in Northeast Nigeria. The concept of heritage relates to the ways in which contemporary society uses the past as a social, political or economic resource. However, heritage is open to interpretation and its value may be ...perceived from differing perspectives - often reflecting divisions in society. Moreover, the schism between the cultural and economic uses of heritage also gives rise to potential conflicts of interest.
Examining these issues in depth, this book is the first sustained attempt to integrate the study of heritage into contemporary human geography. It is structured around three themes: the diversity of use and consumption of heritage as a multi-sold cultural and economic resource; the conflicts and tensions arising from this multiplicity of uses, producers and consumers; and the relationship between heritage and identity at a variety of scales.
