Meta‐aramid paper has been widely used in transformers because of its excellent insulation properties and thermal stability. However, with the rapid development of high‐voltage transformers, higher ...requirements are placed on the breakdown strength of meta‐aramid paper. In this study, meta‐aramid chopped fibers/polyphenylene sulfide (MACFs/PPS) composite paper was prepared by a combination of wet‐copying and hot‐rolling technology. Then the microscopic morphology, mechanical properties, crystallization behavior, insulation properties, and thermal stability of the MACFs/PPS composite paper were studied and evaluated. The experimental results showed that the breakdown strength of the MACFs/PPS composite paper was as high as 46.46 kV/mm, which was 2.7 times higher than the famous Nomex T410 insulating paper. Meanwhile, the MACFs/PPS composite paper presented good mechanical properties and thermal stability. This paper provides a simple and versatile method for the preparation of meta‐aramid composite paper with high breakdown strength.

This study investigates the enhancement of flame-retardant properties in polyamide 6 (PA6) composites through the incorporation of nanofibrillated polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) and a flame retardant, ...ammonium sulfamate (AS). By strategically combining a fibrillar PPS component (15 wt%) with a minimal AS concentration (1 wt%), the composite achieves a UL 94-V0 rating and a heightened limiting oxygen index (LOI) of 33.8 %. Rheological analyses reveal the formation of an entangled fibril network, contributing to a solid-like response that effectively suppresses flame propagation and prevents dripping. Micro-combustion calorimetry (MCC) results demonstrate a synergistic effect between the PPS nanofibril network and AS, leading to a significant 17 % reduction in peak heat release rate (PHRR) in PA6-nanofibrillated PPS-AS composites, showcasing improved flame-retardant properties compared to neat PA6. Despite a trade-off in mechanical properties, this research presents a promising strategy for enhancing the flame-retardant performance of PA6 composites, offering valuable insights for addressing fire safety challenges in PA6 applications.

Although much work has been reported on anticorrosive coatings at this stage, most materials are confronted with a variety of harsh environments in practical applications, posing extreme challenges ...to the various properties of the coatings. In this study, carbon nanotube/montmorillonite/polyphenylene sulfide (CNTs/MMT/PPS) composite coatings were prepared by air spraying method. CNTs-MMT composite fillers with nanostructures were prepared by the amide reaction of 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) modified MMT and carboxylated CNTs. The particle size distribution test demonstrated that the amidated CNTs-MMT exhibited superior dispersion performance compared to CNTs and MMT alone, resulted in a more homogeneous and dense coating. The coatings obtained by combining the low surface energy of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) exhibits hydrophobicity and has excellent self-cleaning properties. The electrochemical corrosion current density of the composite coating was three orders of magnitude lower than that of bare iron, and the corrosion efficiency was 99.43 %, demonstrating excellent corrosion resistance. The thermogravimetric test results showed that the CNTs/MMT/PPS composite coatings displayed excellent thermal stability up to 530 °C. Therefore, the CNTs/MMT/PPS composite coating possesses significant advantages in the field of anti-corrosion due to its enhanced durability, heat resistance, and corrosion resistance.

Porous carbons have long been studied for their capacity to capture CO2 due to their enhanced textural characteristics and customizable surface decoration. However, developing porous carbons with ...significant CO2 uptake capacity and strong CO2/N2 selectivity is still a challenge. This study presents introducing sulfur (S) atoms into the porous carbon structure to increase CO2 uptake using a pre-carbonized polyphenylene sulfide resin (PPS) via chemical activation. By adjusting KOH activator amount and activation temperature, various textural features and S contents were obtained, resulting in a strong adsorption effect for CO2. The optimal sample displayed CO2 uptake of 3.64 and 5.13 mmol/g at 25 and 0 °C and a CO2/N2 selectivity of 19 due to the judicious heteroatom doping and optimal pore size distributions. The findings demonstrate the significant potential of PPS-derived porous carbon adsorbents for CO2 adsorption, and the novel synthesis method provides new possibilities for the scalable production of CO2 adsorbent.

Systematic studies of non-isothermal crystallization kinetics of polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) and PPS/Ti-SiO.sub.2 (1.0, 3.0 and 5.0 mass%) fibers raw materials were performed by DSC combining with ...SEM and polarized optical microscopy (POM). There are significant dependence of non-isothermal crystallization behavior and kinetics of PPS/Ti-SiO.sub.2 nanocomposites on the Ti-SiO.sub.2 content and cooling rate. Nano Ti-SiO.sub.2 acted as nucleating agents. Not only initial crystallization temperature was increased but also the rates of crystallization accelerated by analyzing relative degree of crystallinity, crystallization rate coefficient and crystallization rate parameter. Combining with POM images, non-isothermal crystallization kinetics was studied by Jeziorny, Ozawa and Mo's equation. Spherulitic morphology of PPS has not been changed by nano Ti-SiO.sub.2, but the numbers of initial crystal nucleus increased and spherulitic size became smaller. Crystallization activation energy of PPS and PPS/Ti-SiO.sub.2 nanocomposites was estimated using isoconversional analysis of calorimetric data and proved that Ti-SiO.sub.2 increased effective energy barrier of crystallization due to its strong surface adsorption and the crystallization of PPS/Ti-SiO.sub.2 was more sensitive to temperature.

In this work, a durable polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) composite superhydrophobic coating was prepared using a simple spraying method. By adding GO-ZrO2 composite particles to build micro/nanostructures ...on the surface of the coating, combined with the low surface energy of stearic acid, a GO-ZrO2/PPS composite superhydrophobic coating with high water contact angle of 153° ± 1° and low sliding angle of 4° ± 1° was finally obtained. The coating exhibits good stability and maintains a clean surface even after repeatedly pulling in muddy water for 100 times. In addition, the coating has good wear and corrosion resistance with a corrosion rate of 3.07 × 10−8 g/m2h. Therefore, this superhydrophobic composite coating with durability, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance can provide promising applications in the field of anti-corrosion.

The cleanup of oily wastewater and crude-oil spills is a global challenge. Traditional membrane materials are inefficient for oil/water separation under harsh conditions and limited by sorption ...speeds because of the high viscosity of crude oil. Herein, a kind of Graphene-wrapped polyphenylene sulfide fibrous membrane with superior chemical resistance and hydrophobicity for efficient oil/water separation and fast adsorption of crude oil all-weather is reported. The reduced graphene oxide (rGO)@polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) fibrous membrane can be applied in the various harsh conditions with Joule heating and solar heating. In addition, the oil(dichloromethane)/water separation flux of rGO@PPS reached 12 903 L m–2h–1, and the separation efficiency reached 99.99%. After 10 cycles, the rGO@PPS still performed high separation flux and filtration efficiency. More importantly, the rGO@PPS still retained its high conductivity, excellent filtration efficiency, and stable hydrophobicity after acid or alkali treatment. Moreover, the rGO@PPS can be heated by solar energy to absorb viscous crude oil during the day, while at night, the crude oil can be adsorbed by Joule heating. The time to adsorb crude oil can be reduced by 98.6% and 97.3% through Joule heating and solar heating, respectively. This all-weather utilization greatly increases the adsorption efficiency and effectively reduces energy consumption.

The poor corrosion resistance of metals has greatly limited its application. In this work, a simple spraying method was used for preparing SiO2/HDTMS-ZnO/PPS superhydrophobic composite coating. The ...water contact angle of the obtained coating is (150 ± 1) °, and the sliding angle is (3 ± 1) °. Due to its good hydrophobicity, it can resist muddy water. The test results of thermogravimetric (TG) indicate the outstanding thermal stability of the prepared coating with a quality loss of less than 10% under 493 °C. In addition, electrochemical testing shows that the composite coating exhibits excellent corrosion resistance, and the corrosion efficiency reaches 99.881%. Therefore, this superhydrophobic composite coating with antifouling, heat stability, and corrosion resistance has significant advantages in metal protection and is expected to be used for real application in corrosion protection.

Owing to its excellent heat resistance, lightness, insulation, and mechanical properties, aramid paper has been widely used in aerospace, rail transit, military, and other high-tech areas. With the ...rapid development of modern industries, para-aramid paper-based materials have become the development direction and trend of the specialty paper industry. In this study, para-aramid chopped fibers/polyphenylene sulfide (ACFs/PPS) composite paper sheets were fabricated by modern wet papermaking. The tensile strength, tensile index, and tear index of the hot-pressed ACFs/PPS composite paper sheets were substantially improved, reaching 103.5 MPa, 80.9 N m/g, and 119.1 mN m2/g under optimal speed of hot-pressing roller (0.2 m/min), hot-pressing temperature (310 °C), hot-pressing pressure (0.2 MPa), and ACFs content (70 wt%). The mechanical properties of hot-pressed ACF/PPS composite paper were markedly superior. Besides, the dielectric constant of the composite paper remained stable even when the temperature reached 100 °C. Briefly stated, ACFs/PPS composite paper exhibits desirable mechanical performance, thermostability, high breakdown strength, and low dielectric constant, delivering great potentials in the high-tech areas.

In this study, we pioneered the introduction of benzophenone (DPK) as a solid solvent into polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) melt-blown, which effectively reduced the PPS melt-blown processing temperature ...and significantly improved the coefficients of variation of PPS melt-blown nonwoven materials. X-Co-tri@SSNF proton exchange membranes with excellent performance were prepared by functionalized modification of PPS melt-blown fabric as a substrate. The structure and properties of X-Co-tri@SSNF proton exchange membranes were systematically characterized. The results demonstrate that the 1-Co-tri@SSNF PEM exhibited a high proton conductivity of 0.183 S cm−1 at 80 °C and high humidity, significantly higher than the commercial Nafion 117 (0.135 S cm−1). Due to the heat resistance of PPS itself and the continuous dense network structure substrate of PPS nonwoven fabrics as well as the high compatibility with the membrane casting liquid, the hybrid membrane interfaces were tightly connected, so it makes the hybrid membrane perform better in terms of mechanical stability (tensile strength of 36.7 MPa), methanol permeability (4.78 × 10−7 cm2 s−1), selectivity (16.32 × 104 S s cm−3), and thermal stability (thermal decomposition temperature of around 450 °C). In addition, the 1-Co-tri@SSNF membrane electrode module exhibited excellent single-cell performance with an open-circuit voltage of 629.91 V and a peak power density of 96.29 mW cm−2 (162.9 % higher than that of Nafion 117). Therefore, the composite PEM with PPS melt-blown fabric as the matrix has a more environmentally friendly process than the commercial Nafion 117 membrane, a theoretical guidance for advancing the large-scale production of low-cost PEM.
