This study investigated phonological adaptation of non-loan words in Japanese and their preference for either deletion or epenthesis. Earlier studies argue that non-loan Japanese words prefer ...deletion while loanwords prefer epenthesis. Studies further show that the input medium affects the adaptation; text-input leads to epenthesis while sound-input to deletion. The present study experimented with text-input of non-loan nonce words and investigated how native Japanese speakers adapt their causative, passive, and potential forms. Results showed a strong preference for deletion in causative forms, a relatively weak preference for deletion in potential forms, and no significant preference in passive forms. The outcome indicates that deletion is not present by default, and further investigation is needed to define factors that influence the selection.
The aim was to adapt the Croatian and the Serbian versions of the Oral Health Impact Profile for the edentulous population (OHIP-EDENT-CRO and OHIP-EDENT-SRB).
The translation and cross-cultural ...adaptation were carried out in accordance with accepted international standards. A total of 95 and 177 removable denture wearers were recruited in Croatia and Serbia respectively. The reliability was evaluated by calculating Cronbach's alpha coefficient and by test-retest (30 participants in each country). The concurrent validity was determined by calculating the Spearman's rank coefficient between the OHIP-EDENT summary scores and one question related to removable denture satisfaction. Construct validity was determined by exploratory factor analysis (EFA). Responsiveness was determined by comparison of the OHIP-EDENT summary scores before and after dental implant placement to support mandibular overdentures (23 patients in Croatia, 21 in Serbia).
Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.92 in Croatia and 0.87 in Serbia. The intraclass correlation coefficient was 0.98 in Croatia and 0.94 in Serbia. In Croatia the Spearman's correlation coefficient was -0.71 (p<0.001) and in Serbia -0.74 (p<0.001). Both confirmed concurrent validity. Construct validity was tested by EFA, which extracted four factors in each country, accounting for 66.59% of the variance in Croatia and 59.33% in Serbia. Responsiveness was confirmed in both countries by a significant OHIP-EDENT summary score reduction and a high standardised effect size (3.9 in Croatia, 1.53 in Serbia).
The results prove that both instruments, the OHIP-EDENT-CRO and the OHIP-EDENT-SRB, have very good psychometric properties for assessing OHRQoL in the edentulous population.
Reja domačih živali je ljudi od nekdaj fascinirala, z njo pa so se ukvarjali različni strokovnjaki in znanosti. V pričujočem članku skušam rezultate s terenskega dela na specifičnem primeru reje ...slovenskega toplokrvnega konja umestiti v širši kontekst reje domačih živali in rejstva nasploh. Z dodatno pomočjo teoretskih spoznanj osvetlim nekatere koncepte, kot so pasma, čistokrvnost, hibridnost in prilagoditev. Ti so vzporedno z velikim navdušenjem nad preučevanjem odnosov med ljudmi in živalmi še velikokrat nezadostno pojasnjeni.
Nasal obstruction is highly subjective perception with numerous efforts being made towards objective measuring. Many instruments in quality of life studies encompass subjective symptom of nasal ...obstruction, but only NOSE has been properly validated and is easy to use in every day practice.
Multicenter prospective instrument validation and cross-cultural adaptation cohort study was conducted on patients with deviated nasal septum, with or without inferior turbinate hypertrophy, to develop the Slovenian version of NOSE questionnaire. A cross-cultural adaptation of the original questionnaire was done in five steps, producing Slovenian NOSE-si, used on a pilot group to confirm the quality of adapted tools and, afterwards, on the main study and control group. Symptoms were lasting for more than 12 months and all had an indication for septal surgery. A control group was selected from a pool of healthy subjects, self-assessed as having no rhinological complaints.
NOSE-si was used on 116 patients (58 from the study group vs. 58 from the control group). High degree of internal consistency - Cronbach's a 0.971 and reliability after retesting - Goodman-Kruskal gamma coefficient 0.984 was proven. Responsiveness was confirmed in the surgery subgroup with standardized response mean (SRM) 2.76 (p<0.001).
The study produced a valid Slovenian version of NOSE questionnaire through rigorous and well defined five-phase effort to maintain scientifically comparable QoL instrument, and may be used by clinicians and researchers.
Uvod: Prilagajanje je ključni dejavnik za uspešno soočenje posameznika s spremembami v svojem notranjem in zunanjem okolju. Z aktivnostmi zdravstvene nege medicinske sestre pomagajo zagotoviti ...potrebne vire za uspešnejši proces prilagajanja. Avtorji v prispevku razpravljajo, ali bi teoretični model prilagoditve Calliste Roy ustrezal pri obravnavi in zdravstveni negi v enoti za zdravljenje bolečine.Metode: Uporabljena je triangulacija metod pregleda literature in kvalitativne metode z raziskovalno tehniko kritičnega dogodka. Pregled literature je bil narejen v vzajemni bibliografsko-kataložni bazi COBIB.SI in Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL). Pridobljenih je bilo 165 zadetkov in uporabljenih 34 znanstvenih člankov ter 7 monografij. Kriteriji izbora so bili primarni viri Calliste Roy, dostopnost, relevantnost, kritična ponazoritev teoretičnega modela. Tehnika kritičnega dogodka v treh fazah opiše incident, ga analizira ter poda možne izide. Rezultati: Adaptacijski model Calliste Roy je aplikativen, uporaben in v sedanji situaciji se dobro dopolnjuje s štirinajstimi temeljnimi življenjskimi aktivnostmi po Virginie Henderson. Model daje možnost ocene tako fizičnega kot psihosocialnega stanja. Najpomembnejše prepoznane intervencije medicinske sestre, ki pripomorejo k prilagoditvenemu procesu pacienta, so psihosocialna podpora, učenje in svetovanje. Diskusija in zaključek: Prednost obravnave pacienta z rakom in bolečino po izbranem modelu zdravstvene nege je v možnosti ocene stanja po vseh štirih ravneh prilagajanja in v prikazu načrta zdravstvene nege. Pokazalo se je kot pozitivno, da medicinska sestra lahko s psihosocialno podporo in informiranjem vpliva na kakovost življenja pacienta. Pacient in družina se soočata s kronično boleznijo, načinom življenja in pomenom poznavanja ter nadzorovanja bolečine.
