Introduction: The Bangladesh's Ready-Made Garment (RMG) sector is now the world's 3rd largest exporter. RMG provides a steady flow of employment for approximately 4,000,000 workers, the majority of ...whom are women. This remarkable progress, however, has been hampered by a lack of factory safety and industrial mishaps, which characterize health risks. Methods: With a population of 200 employees, this was a quantitative study. Interviews with informants were conducted using an interview guideline, and observations were carried out around the workplace using a checklist instrument. The information gathered was used to create a detailed picture of the scenario. This research aims to investigate health hazards of the garment industrial workers and their effects on workers’ health. Results: The majority of garment workers were between the ages of 15 – 20 years old. 93.6% of respondents worked for 8 - 9 hours each day on average, and 79.2% put in an extra 2-4 hours of work. 66% had no accident in the previous year, while 24.7 % experienced a small cut, abrasion, or injury. Moreover, most respondents were unconcerned about physical or environmental pollution, while 68% were concerned about noise pollution. Due to the direct link to health risks, employees suffered from headaches, general weakness, and eyestrain. Conclusion: Workers’ headaches and eyestrain were caused by an insufficient lighting and ventilation system and noise pollution. Backaches, joint pain, and chest pain were caused by long working hours and a dirty workplace. Industrial health hazards should be minimized by the proper implementation of labor laws by the government.

The relationship between corporate social responsibility and consumer's behavior is more and more strong today: so it influences management of ethical and social effects of companies. The aim of the ...study is to investigate to what extent the socially responsible behaviors of companies influence consumer purchasing decisions and, moreover, the possible willingness to pay higher prices for good practice products. A choice experiment was conducted in Italy for this purpose on ready‐made foods, where socially responsible initiatives of companies are compared with four levels of price and the presence or absence of a known brand. The analysis shows a positive relationship between socially responsible initiatives of companies and attitudes of consumers towards them and their products. However, by investigation, only few people adopt corporate social responsibility as choice criterion for purchases still, because traditional purchasing criteria continue to prevail, in particular the price. The conclusions are also a matter for thought for further discussion.

Fire safety has become a major issue of public concern in the ready-made garments (RMG) sector, encouraging the Government of Bangladesh and the garment industry to step forward to rebuild consumer ...confidence. This thesis gathered information on the cost-effectiveness of the protection systems from several garment factories in Bangladesh. A four-step methodology was used in an attempt to adopt a systemic approach to constructing a fire safety management system (FSMS) for an offshore platform which, although the approach is general nowadays, has been applied to the case of the RMG industry. Significant changes have been made in fire safety management in the ready-made garment factories over the past few years. However, fire safety still tends to be analyzed in isolation through all fire loss that affects the garment industry. Fire loss may be seen as a set of ‘systematic’ failures, not as a result of only one reason. This study proposes an FSMS for the ready-made garment industry. It is hoped that this approach will lead not only to more effective management of fire safety, but also to the more effective management of safety, health and the environment for any organization. This study discussed the problems encountered by the management, and proposed a way to quantitatively evaluate fire risk and identify the cost-effectiveness of undertaking fire safety measures for the RMG sector of Bangladesh.
The study aimed to explore challenges and solutions in applying green human resource management practices for the sustainable workplace. The field of enquiry is ready‐made garments factories, with ...the study drawing on qualitative research. The researchers interviewed 12 managers from leading ready‐made garments factories in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The participants interviewed provided rich qualitative data and identified a number of challenges such as a poor level of knowledge, no rules for practicing, a lack of managerial interest and organisational support, high costs of practicing, and high employee turnover as the main challenges in applying green human resource management practices in the factories of the industry. The study also found that strict rules and regulations, monitoring, courses in universities, training programs, and monetary incentives could be effective solutions in applying green human resource management practices in the organisations. This study is amongst the first in academic research to reveal the challenges and solutions in applying green human resource management practices in organisations; therefore, primary data could be useful for academicians and policymakers for further research and subsequent decision‐making.

Bangladesh, a fast-growing developing country, has been experiencing rapid development in export-oriented industrialization. The total contribution of the garment industries to the national foreign ...exchange earnings is around 83%. About 80% of garment workers are women, and most have migrated from rural areas to industrial cities. Female workers have been an important factor in the growth of the garment industry in Bangladesh. Despite its contribution to the national economy and employment opportunities, the garment industry in Bangladesh is beset by many grievances. Such as sexual harassment, health problems, lack of toilet facilities, exploitation of low-paid and overworked workers and large-scale social insecurity. The present research analyzed such violations from different aspects with a qualitative approach, The main objective of this paper is to find out the types and nature of human rights violations that occur against female garment workers in Bangladesh. The present research combines both exploratory and descriptive methods. Sampled garment workers from two selected factories were surveyed and interviewed to understand the practical situation at the field level. The data findings have provided a complete picture of the nature of the human rights violations that occurred. The human rights of women workers have been found to be violated from all nine indicators. The patriarchal socio-economic setting and economic vulnerability of the women and their lack of awareness, as well as reluctance and quick profit motive of the factory owners, have contributed most to such unwanted situations.
The ready‐made garments (RMG) production industry in Bangladesh has achieved a major presence in the global fashion apparel supply chain particularly due to the competitive advantage (CA) primarily ...attributed to its' large pool of low cost labor. However, the competitiveness of this industry is under threat from other emerging economies that are rapidly becoming lower cost production sources. As a result the Bangladesh RMG sector is under pressure to find alternate sources of CA by introducing sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) practices along with improving the dynamic capabilities (DC) of the RMG manufacturers. However, the extant literature indicates that there is a dearth of sufficient empirical evidence on whether SSCM practices in combination with improvements in management and technological capabilities of such enterprises leads to gains in CA. In order to address the aforesaid gap, this study draws on the integration of the SSCM practices view and the DC view, to propose a set of relationships that posit that environmental, social, and economic sustainability measures of SSCM practices along with management and technological capabilities will have a significant influence on CA. The hypotheses are tested by applying structural equation modeling on a sample of 345 export‐oriented RMG manufacturers in Bangladesh. The findings indicate that influence of social sustainability, along with management and technological capabilities, on CA is positive and significant. While the relationship between environmental and economic sustainability and CA were not significant.

This research draws on the Theory of Planned Behavior to examine how green work climate perceptions mediate the relationship between green human resource management (GHRM) and pro-environmental ...behavior. Results based on a sample of 397 supervisors show that GHRM had a significant relationship with green work climate perceptions. Green work climate perceptions were associated with pro-environmental behavior. Green work climate perceptions partially mediated the relationship between GHRM and pro-environmental behavior, suggesting green work climate perceptions as a mechanism explaining why GHRM may promote sustainable employee behavior at the workplace. These findings contribute to HRM's extended value in environmental concerns by illuminating new thoughts on the intervening mechanisms that link them with sustainable employee behaviors. Drawing insights from ongoing research on GHRM's role in enabling workplace sustainability, the paper reflects on what GHRM means for employees from the sustainable ready-made garment, the second-largest labor-intensive industry in Bangladesh. The findings also shed new light on the psychological mechanism that links GHRM and pro-environmental behavior.

The ready-made garments industry is one of the industries that have an impact on the economic and social aspects within societies. It has been able to develop rapidly through its use of various ...scientific and technical methods and technology, which was accompanied by interest in the human factor that needs technical and technological expertise as it represents one of the strong and basic pillars of the ready-made garment industry. (Zainab Abdel Hafeez - 2006).The level of performance is affected by the interaction of two sets of factors: the first relates to the individual’s personal components of capabilities, and the second relates to the nature of the situation in which he exercises his work, which includes the internal climate of work. Therefore, any tendency to improve the performance level of work requires taking into account both sides together. It seeks to raise the level of the worker's skills and abilities, which calls for an attempt to remove any obstacles in the work environment that limit the effectiveness of performance, because attention to one of the sides and neglect of the other hinders from reaching the desired goal.
