Today’s business world is very competitive and managing an organization has become more complex than ever before. As more companies have started realizing that ‘the satisfied worker is a productive ...worker’, they have started to look for ways to improve the work environment. Many have implemented various work life programs to help employees in order to improve their work life quality. The work life quality has an important bearing on the ‘total quality’ of the people. It results to better quality of life of the people and vice-versa. It has been considered a mean and at the same time an end in itself.
This study aims to quantitatively analyze which variables are critical in determining the level of Internet game addiction (IGA) among the Korean adolescents and investigate the role of family ...leisure as therapy with interdisciplinary perspectives. The results indicate that some personal and household characteristics, including gender, are significant determinants of the level of IGA, where male adolescents, compared to their female counterparts, are proven to be more prone to the addiction. Nevertheless, a substantial portion of the variation in the level of addiction is not explained by personal or household variables, which implies the importance of adopting interdisciplinary approach such as focusing on the dopamine reward system as intensively investigated in the fields including neurobiology, medicine and psychology. The result also shows that the role of family leisure programs deserves more attention. In cases where the adolescents do participate in leisure activities with their family, the level of IGA seems to decrease, compared to those who do not. This quantitative finding is consistent with the previous findings that exercise and social contact encourage the functions of dopamine receptors, implying the usefulness of the interdisciplinary approaches to deal with IGA problems.

Engaging students in higher education is a critical aspect of student learning (Barkley, 2009; Coates, 2005).Flipped classroom are being reported in the literature as a means to engage students in ...the learning process, compared to traditional lectures (O’Flaherty & Phillips, 2015). However, flipped classrooms are difficult to implement without students taking an active role in the learning process (Long, Cummins, & Waugh, 2017). Token economies, which are widely used in primary school settings but rarely reported in higher educational settings, enable instructors to provide students with rewards to reinforce targeted student behaviors (Hine, Ardoin, & Call, 2018; McClurg & Morris, 2014), and may be useful in the flipped classroom model. In this mixed methods case study, the researchers collected survey and focus group data from 48 undergraduate students who attended a science course with a token economy to determine the students’ perceptions of the token economy and satisfaction of the novel rewards offered. The findings indicated that over 90% of the students participated in the token economy and 74% of students indicated that the reward system reinforced the student behaviors necessary for an effective flipped classroom. The students also discussed how the token economy provided motivation and additional opportunities to master course content, decreased student anxiety, and enhanced the student-teacher relationship.
A significant role among soft mobility measures to influence people's mobility choices and to raise awareness is played by the provision of targeted information. The integration of user-centered ...design, social innovation, portable devices, and sensors may have a role in influencing people's choices and consumption patterns. The paper presents two ongoing works that investigate, design and develop tools for valuing people's positive behaviors and rewarding choices in the domain of mobility and energy. The objective of such tools is both to raise people's awareness and to engage it into a collaborative environment, in order to meet a common set of targets. The strategy adopted in both the cases is based on linking “bottom-up” with “top-down” approach, i.e. by making people to behave and to make choices coordinately with decision maker's (i.e. the Public Administration or the Administrator of the system) objectives. The first regards Opti-LOG, a project co-funded by Regione Lombardia under the Smart Cities and Communities program, which concerns last-mile delivery with low emission and zero emission vehicles. The second case regards Sharing Cities, a H2020 project that includes a pilot project in the Municipality of Milano, where the focus is on citizen engagement and behaviors in the domains of personal mobility and energy. The system, by enabling mechanisms of collaboration, sharing and human capital generation, tackles the objectives of lowering energy consumption and promoting sustainable mobility and contributes to the weaving of a more cohesive social tissue.

Employee rewarding is one of the activities of human resource management concerning the management of money, goods and services that employees receive from their employer in exchange for their work. ...Given that a properly designed reward system is one of the conditions for a stable business, successful performance of work activities and the achievement of set objectives in each organization, the basic theme of this paper is the employee reward system, with a special focus on different elements of it. The purpose of this paper is to describe the role and significance of the observed system and to draw attention to its role in employee’s motivation.
Based on the given analysis many conclusions have been drawn. It has been proved that a properly designed employee reward system has many advantages for the organization, which emphasizes its importance.
Music is among all cultures an important part of the live of most people. Music has psychological benefits and may generate strong emotional and physiological responses. Recently, neuroscientists ...have discovered that music influences the reward circuit of the nucleus accumbens (NAcc), even when no explicit reward is present. In this clinical case study, we describe a 60-year old patient who developed a sudden and distinct musical preference for Johnny Cash following deep brain stimulation (DBS) targeted at the NAcc. This case report substantiates the assumption that the NAcc is involved in musical preference, based on the observation of direct stimulation of the accumbens with DBS. It also shows that accumbens DBS can change musical preference without habituation of its rewarding properties.
The authors investigate how innovative cultural products are rewarded by considering a producer's structural network position, conformity to innovation norms for production and assessment, and the ...extent to which gatekeepers recognize variety or continuity. They empirically test their arguments in the field of elite Italian winemaking, which is characterized by a semi-independent reward system. In this field, critics, who serve as gatekeepers, allocate symbolic rewards to socially recognize producers' work. An analysis of the awards received by 287 winemakers between 2001 and 2005 reveals both convergence towards innovation norms (i.e., continuity) and openness to innovative products that deviate from norms (i.e., variety) within the same reward system. The authors discuss the empirical evidence in light of both reward system theory and elite Italian winemaking as a cultural field. Les auteurs analysent la manière dont des produits culturels novateurs sont récompensés en examinant la position d'un producteur au sein de son réseau structurel, la conformité aux normes d'innovation en termes de production et d'évaluation, et jusqu'à quel point les sentinelles tiennent compte de la variété ou de la continuité. Les auteurs mettent leurs arguments à l'épreuve empiriquement en se penchant sur le domaine de la fine fleur de la vinification italienne, qui se caractérise par un système de récompenses semi-autonome. Dans ce domaine, les critiques jouent le rôle de sentinelles et présentent des récompenses symboliques afin de reconnaître le travail des producteurs sur le plan social.
