The BCS poll is comprised of three parts: the Harris Interactive, USA Today coaches poll and the computer rankings, which include Anderson & Hester, Richard Billingsley, Colley Matrix, Kenneth ...Massey, Jeff Sagarin and Peter Wolfe. Then sometime between 2 and 3 p.m., Mike Slive will see the final cumulative rankings, and his office will compile and distribute that information to the 11 commissioners of BCS-affiliated conferences, Notre Dame athletic director Kevin White, the five bowl games and the television representatives. Four of this year's games are on Fox, and The Rose Bowl Game on New Years Day will be televised on ABC. Slive said that if Ohio State and USC play in the national title game, which is expected if USC defeats UCLA on Saturday, then the Rose Bowl would have the first two picks of remaining teams. Then the Sugar Bowl will select the SEC champion's opponent, the Orange Bowl will choose who plays the ACC winner and the Fiesta Bowl gets the last pick at who takes on the Big 12 champion.
Nov. 30--GAINESVILLE -- Mike Slive speaks often about the two hats he wears as commissioner of the Southeastern Conference and as coordinator of the Bowl Championship Series. Wednesday, Slive said ...the guy in the SEC hat wouldn't be opposed to a few changes from the guy in the BCS hat. "I guess I still remain open and willing to look at some alternatives to the current BCS format," Slive said on a teleconference. "If I put on my SEC hat, I may be more interested in some alternatives. If I put on my BCS hat, we want to be very careful."
Commissioner Mike Slive will wait until after Steve Spurrier's much- anticipated homecoming today at Florida before deciding whether to punish Spurrier for the remarks. It was the second time ...Spurrier has discussed officiating on his call-in show. After the Georgia game, Spurrier divulged details of a conversation he had with SEC officiating coordinator Rogers Redding.
"We value Orlando, the people here," Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive said. "So we certainly hope that when it comes time to negotiate in the future, that Orlando is competitive. But ...there are other cities that have made enormous investments." Atlantic Coast Conference Commissioner John Swofford and Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany joined Slive in Orlando on Tuesday for a roundtable discussion hosted by Florida Citrus Sports. Few topics were as interesting as the state of the Citrus Bowl and its future. Earlier in the day, officials from Florida Citrus Sports met with the Orange County Commission. FCSports hopes to convince the county to contribute a portion of the tourist tax to a renovation of the Citrus Bowl that's estimated to cost $252 million.
Mike Slive is the commissioner of the Southeastern Conference. Right now, he also doubles as the coordinator of the ever-popular BCS. There are better jobs out there. Slive went to the annual ...Football Writers Association of America breakfast yesterday to discuss the future of the postseason. If you wanted to see something different than what's in place, you're probably not going to like what he had to say. The BCS took a step this year, by adding a fifth game, which is what at least allowed Boise State to get to the Fiesta Bowl. A lot of folks thought it might be the first step toward a so-called plus- one game, which would involve the top two teams after the four BCS bowl games had been played. Not so fast, my friends. While Slive said there will always be discussions about modifications, the fact is that there still are 3 years left on the BCS' 4-year contract with Fox. So the earliest anything can happen is probably the 2010 season.
"We started the conversation with, 'Do you all see what I see?' And we do. Then we said, 'Well, how can we best move forward given the time we've got before the next BCS (contract) comes up?'" ...Bernard Machen said. "And they suggested -- and I agree with them -- why not work within the BCS structure? It has changed from its original construct." "There's not one person of the 12 of us who sits around the table and says, 'Look, it ain't broke, don't fix it. BCS is just perfect. Can't imagine a better scenario,'" said Andrew Sorensen, who receives e- mails from fans containing their ideas for a playoff. "There may be something like that," USC athletics director Eric Hyman said. "But an eight-team, 16-team playoff, I don't think that's in the cards."
CBS is desperate to keep the SEC, just like CBS was desperate to keep the NCAA Tournament in 1999 and forked over an unfathomable $6 billion to do it Now CBS sees the SEC is flirting with FOX, which ...is drunk off the success of its BCS bowl package and badly wants games in the regular season.

SEC commissioner Mike Slive has been wearing two hats this season, serving as the BCS commissioner also. Speaking as a representative of the conference, Slive said he would be disappointed if the ...Gators don't reach the title game. Gators quarterback Chris Leak passed for 189 yards on 16-of-30 passing with a 37-yard scoring pass to Harvin. Arkansas, which boasts the top rushing attack in the league, managed only 179 yards on the ground and was outrushed by the Gators, who had 182, including 105 from Percy Harvin. Florida's eighth blocked kick of the season set up a second- quarter touchdown as the Gators roared out to an early 17-0 lead. Jarred Fayson blocked a Jacob Skinner punt that was recovered at the Arkansas 9, setting up a 9-yard Leak scramble for a 10-0 lead. On Florida's next possession, Leak found Harvin deep for a 37-yard scoring touchdown to make it 17-0.
"Socially he was awkward and he had no athletic ability at all. But he was so bright," said former Atlantic Coast Conference Commissioner Gene Corrigan, for whom Tom Mickle worked at the ACC before ...coming to Orlando. "He loved the work he did and the people he did it with. . . . Tom was the best hire I ever made." Mickle, who was 55, cut his professional teeth at Duke and in the ACC. Under Corrigan, Mickle grew to be the ACC's point man in TV- rights negotiations. By the time he moved to Orlando, most of his friends in the TV business had moved up as well. Thus, when FCS needed to update rights fees for its bowls, Mickle already knew who the other players were -- and what they were earning. When FCS hired Mickle to replace Chuck Rohe as executive director in 2002, his charge was to elevate Orlando's bowl stock. FCS added its second bowl, now known as the Champs Sports Bowl, before Rohe's retirement. Shortly thereafter, Mickle began plotting how to get the Capital One Bowl into the Bowl Championship Series if the BCS ever opened its doors. FCS formally bid when the BCS beckoned in 2004, but ultimately the BCS opted not to add any current bowls to its network.
