Insekti Dioryctria sylvestrella Ratz. izuzetno su opasni za drvo bora (Pinus brutia Ten.) u Turskoj. U provedenom su istraživanju, primjenom metode plinske kromatografije i masene spektrometrije ...(GC-MS), analizirane smola galerije ličinki s pet stabala i eterična ulja smole (oleorezin) dobivene metodom acid-paste. U smoli galerije ličinki, nastaloj zbog napada stabala insektima Dioryctria sylvestrella Ratz., nalazi se 39 spojeva, a 36 njih ekstrahirano je iz eteričnih ulja smole (oleorezina) dobivenih postupkom acid-paste. Najčešći spojevi u smoli jesu α-pinen kojega ima 20,2 %, β-kariofilen, s udjelom od 10,8 %, γ-terpinen, s koncentracijom od 10,1 % i β-pinen, s koncentracijom od 9,4 %. Najčešći spojevi u oleorezinu jesu α-pinen, kojega je 19,7 %, β-pinen, s koncentracijom 13,3 %, γ-terpinen, s koncentracijom 10,2 % i β-kariofilen, s koncentracijom 7,8 %. Također, količina pojedinih spojeva u smoli poput β-pinena, limonena i silvestrena manja je od količine u oleorezinu, a količine pojedinih spojeva u oleorezinu, uključujući α-longipinene, α-terpeniol i longifolene, povećane su u usporedbi s količinama u smoli. Međutim, nije pronađena kvalitativna razlika.
SažetakU razdoblju od 2011. do 2013. godine u Hrvatskom šumarskom institutu načinjena je zbirka monolita najvažnijih šumskih tala. Zbirka je izrađena novom metodom pričvršćivanja pomoću epoksidne ...smole. Nakon što se iskopa pedološka jama, pripremi se čelo profila i načini se prizma tla dimenzije 20 cm X 100 cm i debljine 5 cm. Prizma se podijeli na razmake od po 10 cm. Podjela nam je potrebna zbog što vjernijeg prenošenja tla na podlogu načinjenu od vodootpornog drveta i ograničenu letvicama 2 X 3 cm. Oštrom alatkom se odvoji dio tla (oko 10 cm) i prenese u okvir koji mora biti položen horizontalno, a u njemu je premazan sloj epoksidne smole debljine do 1 cm. Nakon što se malo prosuši na zraku, monolit se učvršćuje s bezbojnim mat lakom i nakon toga se može prikazati u okomitom položaju ili objesiti na zid nekog izložbenog prostora. Nova metoda je jednostavnija i brža jer nije potreban masovni monolit u sanduku koji je teško ponekad transportirati do prve prometnice.

"We are calling upon all volunteers to come out and lend a helping hand in getting their neighbors back on their feet," said Mr. Smola, adding, "No jobs are too small, and there are jobs for all skill sets."
Stanley P. Smola was born in Holden, the son of Stanley and Bertha (Beilaska) Smola and had lived in Rutland the past 50 years. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy in 1952. He was a machinist and ...a kiln setter at Norton Company in Worcester for 35 years. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Rutland and the Ovila Case VFW Post 905 in Gardner. Stanley was an avid N.E. sports fan, enjoyed gardening and loved to spend time with his family.

Sometimes building a consensus is harder to achieve than building the most complex piece of infrastructure. Catherine Smola, the new president of the Centre for Studies of Insurance Operations ...(CSIO), has spent a great deal of her career in the insurance industry bridging the gaps between stakeholders' disparate points of view. Smola was first exposed to the insurance industry when she spent her summers in university working as a 'Girl Friday' in a brokerage. She liked the brokers' attention to detail and focus on customer service. CSIO's central mandate is to seek ways to provide a competitive advantage for the independent broker distribution channel in Canada by working with its membership base of 2,100 brokerages, 21 insurers, 43 mutual insurers, and 25 vendors. In all of CSlO's 30 years of existence, Smola believes there has never been a time like the present when brokers, insurers and vendors are so committed to seeing the CSIO's mandate through.

Organsko-anorganski hibridni materijali nova su vrsta nanostrukturirani materijala koji ujedinjuju svojstva obiju faza od kojih se sastoje. Hibridni materijali s polimernom maticom mogu se nazvati i ...nanokompozitima kod kojih punilo nastaje unutar matice, što omogućuje mnogo bolji doticaj među fazama. U ovom radu dan je pregled hibridnih materijala na osnovi epoksidne smole, sa silicijoksidnim punilom nastalim in situ sol-gel postupkom. Morfologija anorganske faze ovisi o uvjetima hidrolize polaznih alkoksida i prisutnosti dobro umrežene polimerne faze, a većinom nastaje interpenetrirana mreža anorganske i polimerne faze. Neumrežena organska faza ne utječe na nastajanje anorganske faze sol-gel postupkom, a nehidrolizirani alkoksidi nemaju utjecaja na reakcije epoksidnih skupina. Svojstva hibrida poboljšavaju se stvaranjem kovalentnih veza među fazama, dok svi hibridi pokazuju povećanu toplinsku postojanost u usporedbi s nemodificiranom epoksidnom smolom. Porast udjela anorganske faze iznad optimalnog ne poboljšava, ili čak pogoršava mehanička svojstva hibridnih materijala.
