The Speech-Language Pathologist is the professional qualified to evaluate and intervene in cases of language impairment, however, there are few accessible cognitive assessment instruments. The Cognitive Speech Therapy Protocol (PROFOCO) is a questionnaire to assess cognitive aspects directed to children with a clinical diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).ObjectivesThe present study aims to present the construction phases of the Cognitive Speech Therapy Protocol aimed at Autistic Spectrum Disorders (PROFOCO-ASD), with emphasis on the panel of experts.MethodsThe Cognitive Speech Therapy Protocol was prepared as a PhD thesis in the area of Rehabilitation Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (FMUSP). This is a questionnaire to investigate cognitive aspects aimed at children between 2 and 12 years old, diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, to be applied by a speech therapist and answered by parents or guardians. The construction of the protocol took place in 4 stages: experience of the authors, review of updated literature, a pre-test applied in person to 10 parents and guardians of children with ASD and the panel of experts where the protocol was analyzed by 3 specialists from area of speech therapy linked to USP AND UNIFESP, with experience in language and in the construction of protocols as criteria for selection, which analyzed the content of the questions, the vocabulary, the structure of the protocol and the answerResultsThe authors’ experience in the construction process made it possible to observe the need to introduce issues involving the adequate state of brain regulation, conditions for reception, analysis and storage of information and conditions for programming, regulation and execution of activities. The updated bibliographic review made it possible to elaborate each question based on scientific evidence. The pre-test made it possible to analyze the understanding of the proposed questions, the vocabulary used and the time required for application. The expert panel provided an analysis of the content and vocabulary, leading to relevant changes in its general context, demonstrating the importance of the expert panel phase in the development of a reference protocol.ConclusionsThe present study demonstrates the importance of the expert panel phase in structuring a screening instrument, since a different perspective from people involved in the language area can give more clarity to the questions, as well as the vocabulary used, ease of A protocol capable of being understood by a population in different contexts, its vision also evolves, in different regions.Disclosure of InterestNone Declared

The specifics of the emotional-volitional sphere of adolescents in this group are anxiety, isolation and negativism prevent the establishment of full social contacts with peers and adults and complicate the formation of their anticipatory competence.ObjectivesStudying the specifics of the anticipatory competence of adolescents with speech pathology.MethodsThe study involved 56 adolescent children aged 11-15, attending an educational institution for children with disabilities, diagnosed with general speech impairment level 2. The study was carried out using the following methods: “Achenbach Questionnaire”, “Test of Anticipatory Consistency” by V.D. Mendelevich, “Anticipation of the outcome of a situation with a violation of the norm” by V.P. Ulyanova and the author’s methodology “Studying the anticipatory competence of adolescents” by Akhmetzyanova A.I., Artemyeva T.V.ResultsIt was revealed that adolescents with speech pathology experience difficulties in mastering the material, it is difficult for them to concentrate their attention on the task and bring the work they have started to the end. Adolescents of this nosological group face difficulties in predicting the outcome of situations and the consequences of their own behavior in a situation of social interaction, find it difficult to control time in the process of doing homework and organizing leisure time, make a forecast of various situations that may arise at school and family, make new acquaintances, and communicate freely with parents, teachers and peers.ConclusionsThe level of speech development influences the formation of personal-situational, speech-communicative anticipatory competence of adolescents, and the ability to predict speech situations. Currently, not all children that need speech therapy have access to a therapist. With the current international shortage of speech-language pathologists (SLPs), there is a demand for online tools to ...support SLPs with their daily tasks. Several online speech therapy (OST) systems have been designed and proposed in the literature; however, the implementation of these systems is lacking. The technical knowledge that is needed to use these programs is a challenge for SLPs. There has been limited effort to systematically identify, analyze and report the findings of prior studies. We provide the results of an extensive literature review of OST systems for childhood speech communication disorders. We systematically review OST systems that can be used in clinical settings or from home as part of a treatment program for children with speech communication disorders. Our search strategy found 4481 papers, of which 35 were identified as focusing on speech therapy programs for speech communication disorders. The features of these programs were examined, and the main findings are extracted and presented. Our analysis indicates that most systems which are designed mainly to support the SLPs adopt and use supervised machine learning approaches that are either desktop-based or mobile-phone-based applications. Our findings reveal that speech therapy systems can provide important benefits for childhood speech. A collaboration between computer programmers and SLPs can contribute to implementing useful automated programs, leading to more children having access to good speech therapy.

Virtual therapy (teletherapy) for patients with dysphonia has become ubiquitous in the COVID-19 era. However, barriers to widespread implementation are evident, including unpredictable insurance ...coverage attributed to limited evidence supporting this approach. In our single-institution cohort, our objective was to show strong evidence for use and effectiveness of teletherapy for patients with dysphonia.
Single institution, retrospective cohort study.
This was an analysis of all patients referred for speech therapy with dysphonia as primary diagnosis from 4/1/2020 to 7/1/2021 and in whom all therapy sessions were delivered in a teletherapy format. We collated and analyzed demographics and clinical characteristics and adherence to the teletherapy program. We assessed changes in perceptual assessments and vocal capabilities (GRBAS, MPT), patient-reported outcomes (V-RQOL), and metrics of session outcomes (complexity of vocal tasks, carry-over of target voice) pre- and post-teletherapy using student's t test and chi-square test.
Our cohort included 234 patients (mean SD age 52 20 years) residing a mean (SD) distance of 51.3 (67.1) miles from our institution. The most common referral diagnosis was muscle tension dysphonia (n = 145, 62.0% patients). Patients attended a mean (SD) of 4.2 (3.0) sessions; 68.0% (n = 159) of patients completed four or more sessions and/or were deemed appropriate for discharge from teletherapy program. Statistically significant improvements were seen in complexity and consistency of vocal tasks with consistent gains in carry-over of target voice for isolated tasks and connected speech.
Teletherapy is a versatile and effective approach for treatment of patients with dysphonia of varying age, geography, and diagnoses.
