Higher student achievements for science were reported in upgraded schools under the 1000-schools programme compared to other 1AB schools in the Kurunegala education zone. Thus, reasons for these ...higher achievements at G.C.E. (A/L) science subjects in nine upgraded schools were explored in comparison to three other 1AB schools. Subject teachers (36), students (100) and parents (36) were chosen for the questionnaire-based survey. Ten subject teachers were interviewed. Data were analyzed with principal components analysis (PCA) and ordinal logistic regression procedures (LRP) to reveal the factors affecting the higher achievements. PCA indicated many differences between the students in newly upgraded schools and students in other schools. Students from upgraded schools showed higher O/L achievements (O/L results index of 3.25 ± 0.90 compared to 2.85 ± 1.13 of other schools), and school attendance. Further, they participated less in tuition (2.56 ± 0.31 hrs. vs. 3.22 ± 0.18 hrs. of other schools); their syllabuses were completed on time and got feedbacks from teachers more often. According to the LRP, student attendance and completion of the syllabus on time were the only factors affected the A/L achievements. Thus, we recommend that school administrators to have good plan to encourage students to attend schools and teachers to complete the syllabus on time.
Despite a rich tradition of institutional adult education and relatively continuous development of andragogical theory and practice, the Republic of Croatia has only adopted strategic and legal ...frameworks that have created the conditions for the professionalisation of adult education staff in the last twenty years. This paper aims to present the andragogical thought, legislative framework, and andragogy study programme in Croatia. The need for the university education of andragogues stems from research results that indicate many employers prefer highly educated staff in this field. To respond to current needs, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Rijeka is going to implement a University Part-Time Graduate Study in Andragogy programme designed in accordance with ten years of positive experience in adult education in the Republic of Croatia, modern achievements in andragogical theory and practice, and based on the Croatian Qualification Frame.
Drawing on the concepts of consistency, this study contributes to the discussion of study programme plans and the links between curriculum elements. The main argument is that a universal requirement ...of consistency is taken for granted in study programme planning, even though critics have noted a need for closer scrutiny and debate. The literature attests that the consistency of programme plans between learning activities, defined learning outcomes and assessments are important for student learning. However, newer trends in education may require a new understanding of how learning environments work and alter our understanding of curriculum in higher education. Drawing on a qualitative analysis, the study displays varied curriculum logics in education planning. The findings indicate that we should expect the varying curriculum elements at play in study programme plans to be overlapping, competing and even contradicting, hence challenging our ideas of the perfect consistent curriculum.

Safety engineering has become a challenging and rewarding career field in the present day age of rapid technological and scientific advances. But how to raise student’s awareness regarding the legal ...and regulatory requirements introduced by safety organizations and government agencies?
The aim of this paper is to show how successful cooperation between professionals in the field of safety engineering, especially functional safety and experienced university language teachers can boost student motivation and inspire them to face the social and industrial needs of changing business environments.
We will try to prove that a tailor-made course provides students with efficient information about the subject, source material and vocabulary from the field of safety engineering. It will also enable students to use knowledge to respond to hazards and accidents. It will teach them to take independent decisions in emergency situations and prepare them to feel comfortable in the global business.
In the current global context, organisations are compelled to reposition themselves in the distribution chain due to changes in consumer behaviour. Consumers no longer simply seek products and ...services; instead, they are pursuing the maximisation of satisfaction promised by their providers. The authors of this article have focused their analytical efforts on highlighting specific aspects of the diverse challenges that consumers must find optimal solutions to at the time of purchase decision. Within this dynamic framework, intellectual capital plays an increasingly important role, its core components being human capital, relational capital, and structural capital. Addressing the human capital component, the authors of this study have directed their analytical approach toward the key determinants of young people's decisions to opt for specific study programmes, aiming to explain how educational offerings can be personalised and adapted. Methodologically, an econometric model is employed, allowing universities to conduct a stakeholder analysis to gather information to determine a matrix of the expressed interest and influence power of various categories of interests in societal terms. The paper presents the results of testing the foundations of students' choices for a particular university-level study programme. Furthermore, the research sought to establish the desirable level of econometric robustness of the basic vectors in the decision-making process regarding the selection of a specific set of competencies and cognitive skills promised by the study programmes. Based on the operationalisation of the specific methodological tools, a panel of tools has been constructed for universities to attempt to meet the expectations of future students. Candidates and students can also use these tools to find ways to optimise resources related to the creation, modification, and promotion of study programmes through the planning of competitive strategies and simultaneous action as promoters of social responsibility.

This article addresses study programme leadership, a still-emerging phenomenon in European higher education (HE). Given its novelty, descriptions and insights into study programme leadership remain ...sparse. Therefore, this study aims to describe and critically explore health profession study programme leaders' work tasks and responsibilities as they appear in institutional mandates. A qualitative hermeneutical interpretative text analysis is conducted using data derived from 14 Norwegian HE institutions. This research focuses on expectations of study programme leadership actions as expressed through the verbs used in the sentences of the mandates. Accordingly, we reveal that the verbs reflect diverse directions: controlling, facilitating, coordinating, and advising. To obtain our findings, we draw on a reflexive leadership approach. We demonstrate that diverse study programme leadership actions require different modes of organising. Thus, this study reveals the tensions among the various leadership actions constructed in HE mandates.

This study investigates the factors that influence how long it takes for master's-level graduate students to find employment. The original contribution stems from questioning whether the structure ...and content of university programmes play a role in graduates' ability to secure jobs. To this end, we focus on three dimensions at three points in time after graduation: competence acquisition, teaching methods and programme characteristics. The dataset comes from a large-scale study on graduates' employability by the Observatory for University Employability and Employment (OEEU) and contains detailed information about master's degree graduates in Spain. A multinomial logit estimated by the maximum likelihood method is used to identify the critical factors influencing the likelihood of acquiring a job sooner. The findings indicate that educational programmes fail to provide the necessary competencies to ensure a smooth transition from the university to the job market and that study programme initiatives related to active learning and internships make a difference in this transition. We believe that these results shed light on specific characteristics of academic programmes and should be considered during programme design to enhance graduates' employability and faster labour market insertion.
