The materials of excavations of the homestead of medieval settlement of the 8th – 9th centuries AD, discovered and explored near the Livadia hospital in 1981–1982, on the Southern coast of Crimea, ...are presented in the paper. The manor was built on an artificial terrace on the eastern slope of the hill, on which the cultural layer of the vast settlement, now built up with new buildings, was spread. Excavations revealed the courtyard, parts of residential and farm buildings with abundant finds related to the life and sudden destruction of the estate complex as a result of a natural disaster (earthquake or landslide). The remains of settlements and pottery workshops of the 8th – 9th centuries are also known in other places of the Southern coast of Crimea, including the territory of Yalta and in its environs. A diverse material composition of finds from the excavations of the settlement near the Livadia hospital is stored and exhibited in the Yalta Historical and Literary Museum.
The remains of a Roman barge were found in 1981 in the River Stella, Udine, Italy. Its cargo consisted mainly of roof tiles. It was excavated in 1998 and 1999, and detailed recording of the hull, and ...a second wooden structure, was achieved in 2011. A spread of material upstream of the wreck has been investigated 2012-2015. The barge was originally dated to the first quarter of the 1st century AD by the in situ cargo. This article describes the bottom-based sewn-plank hull construction and examines it in the light of local boatbuilding traditions. The second wooden structure is also described, along with recent finds and new dating evidence from the dispersed material. The Stella 1 excavation was part of the Anaxum Project, a wider study of the Stella River's cultural landscape through time.

Marcham/Frilford is a large religious site with a temple, an amphitheatre and a central shrine feature. Adjacent to the shrine is a large fourth-century structure containing a significant deposit of ...coins, hobnails and bones. The absence of diffusion of the tiles from the temple roof to the wider site suggests that it continued to function as a religious complex throughout the Roman period; therefore the large structure is unlikely to have been a building which would have blighted the shrine but was more probably an altar platform where rituals were performed in conjunction with it.

From the 18th century they come effecting findings in the zone known as the Rocadillo, where Carteia’s former city is located, of tegulae with a few curious inscriptions where they appear the name of two prominent figures of that we give information in this work.
This research explores the supply of Roman ceramic building materials to Dorchester on Thames, Oxfordshire. Mineralogy and bulk chemistry of tile fabrics were analysed by thin-section and scanning ...electron microscopy. The assemblage from this Roman ‘small town’ has shown, besides the existence of local manufacture, that tegulae were on occasion transported c. 50 km by road to the site. The ‘pink grog-tempered ware’ fabric in which some tegulae were made is analogous to a fabric used to produce large storage jars in the vicinity of Stowe Park, Buckinghamshire. Analysis and discussion of the mechanisms and logistics which facilitated the production and long-distance transport of these tiles and jars is undertaken. Social and economic factors involved in their production and purchase are proposed. This study demonstrates the importance of greater levels of analysis of building materials, with the potential to inform us about social strata beneath those most visible in the historical and archaeological record, and a significant, often neglected aspect of the Roman economy.
This paper reviews the inscriptions made on tegulae or lateres with biblical texts and analyzes their function. Contrary to what has often been thought, these are not funeral inscriptions, but rather ...apotropaic or consecratory.
