This paper aims to elicit insights about sustainable wearables by investigating recent advancements in wearable technology and their applications. Wearable technology has advanced considerably from a ...technical perspective, but it has stagnated due to barriers without penetrating wider society despite early positive expectations. This situation is the motivation behind the focus on studies by many research groups in recent years into wearable applications that can provide the best value from a human-oriented perspective. The expectation is that a new means to resolve the issue can be found from a viewpoint of sustainability; this is the main point of this paper. This paper first focuses on the trend of wearable technology like bodily status monitoring, multi-wearable device control, and smart networking between wearable sensors. Second, the development intention of such technology is investigated. Finally, this paper discusses about the applications of current wearable technology from the sustainable perspective, rather than detailed description of the component technologies employed in wearables. In this paper, the definition of sustainable wearables is discussed in the context of improving the quality of individual life, social impact, and social public interest; those wearable applications include the areas of wellness, healthcare, assistance for the visually impaired, disaster relief, and public safety. In the future, wearables will not be simple data trackers or fun accessories but will gain extended objectives and meanings that play a valuable role for individuals and societies. Successful and sustainable wearables will lead to positive changes for both individuals and societies overall.
Obesity hypoventilation syndrome is one of the most serious outcomes of obesity-related respiratory difficulties, resulting in higher healthcare costs as well as increased cardio-respiratory ...morbidity and mortality.
Sixty-two males who had a high risk of obstructive sleep apnea according to the STOP-BANG Sleep Apnea Questionnaire were enrolled in the study. Their age is 50-60 years old, and they have a BMI of 35-40 kg/m
, daytime hypercapnia, and sleep breathing problems. The patients were divided into two equal groups at random reflexology fasting-mimicking diet groups. Weight, height, waist, and neck circumference were assessed at the beginning of the study and after two months of the intervention. Sleep quality was measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), which is used to evaluate sleep quality. The Maugeri Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (MOSAS) questionnaire was used to assess a patient's quality of life.
There was a significant change in the MOSAS and PSQI questionnaires for both groups post-intervention, as the p-value was less than 0.05. The percentage change in the MOSAS questionnaire score and PSQI questionnaire was higher in the mimic diet group than in the reflexology group. Also, the mimic diet group's weight and neck circumference were considerably reduced after the intervention, with no change in the reflexology group.
Reflexology and a fasting-mimicking diet were found to have a substantial impact on enhancing the quality of life and sleep in people with obesity hypoventilation syndrome.

Background. A lot of researches have been devoted to preserving the health of children. One of the criteria for assessing the condition of a child is his quality of life. In the literature, the term ...“health-related quality of life” is widely used, which implies the characteristics of various aspects of the state of the body, both related and unrelated to the disease. The study of the quality of life of children with giardiasis has not been yet studied. In this regard, the purpose of the study was to study the quality of life indicators for school-age children with a chronic course of giardiasis. Materials and methods. The study involved 126 six children with chronic giardiasis aged 13 to 18 years. The control group consisted of apparently healthy children (72 children) matched by age. The children with giardiasis of the basic group belonged to different age subgroups: subgroup I — teenage boys aged 13–16 years old and girls 12–15 years old — 64 people (50.79 %); II subgroup — juveniles: boys aged from 17 to 18 years old, and girls from 16 to 18 years old — 62 people (49.21 %). An instrument for studying the quality of life of children in the studied groups was the international questionnaire MOS SF-36. Results. It was found that most indicators of the quality of life of children with giardiasis were lower in comparison with the control group of children. The study revealed a more significant decline in the parameters in adolescents. The lowest rates concerned the area of the psychological component of health. The level of Mental Health in this subgroup decreased to 41.02 ± 2.04 scores, which is lower (p < 0.05) compared with the control subgroup (65.12 ± 3.89 scores). With a predominant lesion of the digestive system, the indicators of the physical component of health were 12–19 scores lower. In case of damage to other organs and systems, the indicators of the mental component of health were 12–16 scores lower, which was due to the presence of 87.1 % of people with asthenoneurotic syndrome in the subgroup. Conclusions. Giardiasis invasion reduces the quality of life. Lower rates were established in adolescents. The psychological sphere parameters were reduced due to asthenoneurotic syndrome, and physical ones due to the damage to the digestive system.
This study was developed to compare the relative clinical efficacy of traditional moxibustion and Jade moxibustion in an effort to define the most effective approaches to treating knee ...osteoarthritis.
In total, 94 patients were randomly assigned at a 1:1 ratio to the traditional moxibustion (TM) and Jade moxibustion (JM) groups. For JM, a jade kneepad was preheated for 3 minutes via electrification, with the jade in the kneepad being pressed onto acupoints when reaching an initial temperature of 46°C. For patients in the TM group, moxa cones were applied to acupoints for treatment. In total, 12 treatments were performed for patients in each group, with treatment being conducted 3 times per week. Study outcomes included 36-item short-form health survey and Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index knee stiffness scores. In addition, serum levels of osteoarthritis-related cytokines were measured.
Overall, 89/94 patients completed this study, including 44 and 45 in the TM and JM groups, respectively. The 36-item short-form health survey physical functioning at weeks 12 and 24 (P = .033, 0.001), role-physical at weeks 4 and 24 (P = .030, 0.014), and role-emotional at week 4 (P = .045) were the only scores to differ significantly between the TM and JM groups. Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index stiffness scores in the JM groups improved significantly relative to baseline at weeks 4, 8, 12, and 24 (all P < .01). The scores in the TM group differed significantly at all time points relative to baseline (all P < .01), with no differences between groups (all P > .05). Serum Interleukin-2 levels were lower in both groups (all P < .01). Cartilage oligomeric matrix protein and monocyte chemotactic protein-1 only differed significantly for patients treated via JM (P < .05, P < .01), with the same also being true for Interleukin-1β and Interleukin-8 in the TM group (all P < .01). No significant differences in other cytokines were observed, nor did they differ significantly between groups (all P > .05).
These results suggest that JM treatment can improve knee osteoarthritis patient quality of life, alleviating joint stiffness and restoring joint function with a level of efficacy comparable to TM.
•Patients with good premorbid adjustment showed the best functionality at follow-up.•Patients with good premorbid adjustment showed greater quality of life at follow-up.•Academic premorbid adjustment ...was related to functionality and quality of life scores.•Social premorbid adjustment was only related to quality of life.
The literature indicates that patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorders often show deficits in premorbid adjustment. Additionally, these impairments have been correlated with critical disease parameters, evident in both early and advanced stages. The principal objective of this study was to investigate the association between premorbid adjustment and functional outcomes a decade following the initial episode of psychosis. A cluster analysis was performed to group patients according to their premorbid adjustment scores as assessed with the Premorbid Adjustment Scale (PAS). The measurements of The Disability Assessment Scale (DAS), The Global Assessment of Function (GAF) scale, and The Quality of Life Scale (QLS) were used to compare the functionality of the groups at a 10-year follow-up. A total of 231 patients were classified into three groups based on their premorbid adjustment: “good PAS”, “deteriorating PAS”, and “chronically poor PAS”. The three groups differed significantly in their sociodemographic and cognitive baseline characteristics. At the 10-year follow-up, “good PAS” group had better scores than the other groups in the variables of functionality and quality of life. The relationship found between premorbid adjustment and long-term functional results in patients with psychosis can help us predict the evolution of patients and act accordingly.
