Wider social, cultural, and geographical acceptance of creative class theory has inspired city planners to appeal to creative workers. While creative class literature assumes that creative workers ...develop similar conceptions of place regardless of geographic location, local context, or how individuals identify with and develop attachment to place, a comprehensive analysis of the ways people experience space in relation to creative class theory is lacking. Using a phenomenographic research approach and a framework grounded in theories of place, this study explores conceptions of place among 28 creative workers in Edmonton, Canada. Using a series of interviews and cultural probe exercises designed to provoke creative and emotional responses, this study reveals that, contrary to the literature, participants describe strong attachment to place, a sense of belonging, and a commitment and responsibility to the city, which they describe as tolerant and diverse, with flexible class boundaries. Participants are found to possess both strong and weak ties to social capital, with place not being a means of maintaining weak ties to several social circles. The study concludes that planning policy needs to give due consideration to the genius loci of a place in order to understand how its residents and socioeconomic groups conceive and understand the world around them. Thus, these findings trouble the generalizability of creative class theory, while highlighting the importance and significance of the locale in terms of applying broad policy goals and objectives.

In the cities of the future, public administrations play a key role both because they implement political and legislative choices, and because they must represent the virtuous example to follow. ...Related to the planning and prioritizing of public buildings energy retrofits, public administrations must support a transition process. In this viewpoint, authors proposed an approach by defining three postulates, or pillars, based on the concept of transdisciplinary, that is knowledge, planning and sharing of the city. These pillars could have a significant impact and positive effect in a number of areas and could bring to economical, social and environmental sustainability. It also encourages the development and transfer of knowledge and technology in the main topic of the cities of the futures.

The management of urban drainage systems faces many shortcomings in many urban areas in developing countries, including Vietnam. This poor management is causing economic and environmental ...consequences, especially flooding. One of the reasons is that urban areas have not applied technology in management, do not have a database of the status of current urban drainage system, so the management skills is not scientific and there is no forecasting technique. GIS technology is a highly effective management support tool in many cities around the world, and the Vietnamese government has also issued regulations requiring the use of GIS in urban management. This paper studies the process of establishing a GIS database for urban drainage in ArcGIS sofware and a case study in Cao Bang city, Vietnam. The results of this study are a reference for cities that want to use GIS technology in urban management and the database of this study is for Cao Bang City in Vietnam to be used to integrate into the database of city (big data) in Viet Nam government-oriented urban management.
Surface water plays a vital role in the living environment. The shrinking surface water area in urban areas is one of the main culprits causing serious environmental problems such as flooding, ...ecosystem imbalance, etc. In Vietnam, surface water area in the urban center is rapidly declining due to urbanization, especially in the capital - Hanoi, where the urbanization rate is highest. This study examines the mutation in surface water area in several central districts in Hanoi through the period of 1993-2020 using remote sensing images and GIS. The result shows that the surface water area in the research region decreased gradually over the years from 5881.2 hectares to 4328.7 hectares. This parameter dropped more steeply in recently established districts and those adjacencies namely Thanh Tri, Gia Lam, and Dong Anh than in central districts, Hoan Kiem and Hai Ba Trung for instance. Especially, In 2000 and 2007 the rate of reduction was highest. This finding is useful for urban planners, managers, and policymakers involved in Vietnam's sustainable urban development process.
Le rapport des acteurs de la gestion du vivant à la biodiversité est un enjeu central dans l’avenir des espaces urbains : non seulement la majorité de la population humaine habite en ville ou dans ...l’aire d’influence d’un espace urbain, mais cette urbanisation du monde est une des causes principales de l’érosion de la biodiversité à l’échelle globale. Cet article propose d’examiner les enjeux de tri et de soin du vivant qui organisent et influencent l’évolution du rapport des gestionnaires et in fine, des citadins à la biodiversité urbaine. Dans une première partie, nous explorons l’héritage des différentes cultures gestionnaires du vivant en ville, à travers une revue de la littérature sur l’hygiénisme et ses évolutions (post-hygiénisme et néo-hygiénisme). Nous analysons ensuite le corpus réglementaire et les modalités de son application ou non par les praticiens. Enfin, nous présentons les résultats d’une enquête auprès d’acteurs publics et parapublics de la gestion des espaces publics urbains dans plusieurs collectivités françaises. Cette enquête montre une diversité de représentations voire de récits qui produisent différents registres de légitimation d’un tri du vivant non humain en ville.
The relationship between those involved in the management of living organisms and biodiversity is a central issue in the future of urban spaces: not only do the majority of humankind lives in or under the influence of an urban space, but urbanization is one of the main causes of biodiversity erosion on a global scale. This article examines the issues of sorting and caring for the living, which organize and influence the changing relationship between managers and, ultimately, city dwellers, towards urban biodiversity. Firstly, we explore the heritage of the different management working cultures, through a review on hygienism and its evolutions (post-hygienism and neo-hygienism). We then analyze regulations and the ways in which managers apply or fail to apply them. Finally, we present the results of a survey of public and semi-public stakeholders in the management of urban public spaces in several French local authorities. It reveals a diversity of representations and even narratives that produce different ways of legitimizing the sorting of non-human beings within the city.
Smart Cities make use of ICT technology to address the challenges of modern urban management. The cloud provides an efficient and cost-effective platform on which they can manage, store and process ...data, as well as build applications performing complex computations and analyses. The quickly changing requirements in a Smart City require flexible software architectures that let these applications scale in a distributed environment such as the cloud. Smart Cities have to deal with huge amounts of data including sensitive information about infrastructure and citizens. In order to leverage the benefits of the cloud, in particular in terms of scalability and cost-effectiveness, this data should be stored in a public cloud. However, in such an environment, sensitive data needs to be encrypted to prevent unauthorized access.
In this paper, we present a software architecture design that can be used as a template for the implementation of Smart City applications. The design is based on the microservice architectural style, which provides properties that help make Smart City applications scalable and flexible. In addition, we present a hybrid approach to securing sensitive data in the cloud. Our architecture design combines a public cloud with a trusted private environment. To store data in a cost-effective manner in the public cloud, we encrypt metadata items with CP-ABE (Ciphertext-Policy Attribute-Based Encryption) and actual Smart City data with symmetric encryption. This approach allows data to be shared across multiple administrations and makes efficient use of cloud resources.
We show the applicability of our design by implementing a web-based application for urban risk management. We evaluate our architecture based on qualitative criteria, benchmark the performance of our security approach, and discuss it regarding honest-but-curious cloud providers as well as attackers trying to access user data through eavesdropping. Our findings indicate that the microservice architectural style fits the requirements of scalable Smart City applications while the proposed security approach helps prevent unauthorized access.

The objective of the research: Assessing and evaluating the status of integration management components in the metropolis of Ahvaz. The research is based on applied purpose and descriptive-analytical nature. The components of integrated urban management have been identified and explained and using a researcher-made questionnaire, these components have been studied in Ahvaz. The statistical population of the research is the most important executive bodies in the field of urban management that perform similar and overlapping activities in the field of urban management, including water and sewage management, electricity, gas, telecommunications, private companies, and organizations such as the municipality, Islamic Council City, Housing and Urban Development, Governor's Office, Police, and Traffic Police, Health Organization and People's Institution The sample size are based on the Cochran's formula, which is assigned questionnaires according to each organization. Pearson correlation coefficient and V-Promethee model were used to analyze the data. The results of the Pearson correlation coefficient showed that there is a direct and significant relationship between the components of urban integration management. In the primitive technique, the ranking of institutions is based on three output analyzes (positive ranking, negative ranking, and net output) and the status of the dimensions of integrated urban management by institutions was obtained based on a score of +1 and -1. Indicators with a score of +1 are at the appropriate level and indicators with a score of -1 are at the inappropriate level. In general, the status of urban management integration indicators in view of managers and experts in different urban organizations in Ahvaz city shows that the status of none of the indicators is higher than the hypothetical average and, respectively, indicators of coordination, unity, good governance, interaction, structure, coherence, and system approach are ranked first to the end, respectively.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine the impact of data-driven urban management and its impact on upgradation of slums in Islamabad in the mediation of privacy and security concerns. ...The study was quantitative in nature, and the data were gathered from 301 personnel who were responsible for the planning of urban management. The structural equation modeling technique was utilized for analyzing the responses determining the mediation effect. It was found that privacy and security concerns partially mediate relationship among framing the future and upgradation of slums and evidence-based decisions and upgradation of slums. However, full mediation of privacy and security concerns the relationship of real-time urban management and upgradation of slums. The study focused on the upgradation of slums in Islamabad only, which restricts the results of this to one city. Moreover, the study has used quantitative design, which only provided numerical evidence of the impact rather than cause and detail of the issues
This paper mapped and explored the intellectual structure and the mainstream research on stakeholder theory in the urban context and urban management through co-citation analysis, bibliographic ...coupling, and social network analysis. We found two main intellectual structures: “Urban Strategy” and “Urban Marketing”; which emphasize issues related to environmental management, environmental performance, and collaborative urban governance. “Urban Strategy” is focused on meeting urban stakeholders' expectations through value creation. While “Urban Marketing” manages urban image attractiveness. We also identified three mainstream research themes: “Sustainable Urban Strategy” that arises from “Urban Strategy” and emphasizes sustainability; “Urban Marketing” also doubles as a mainstream research theme with the same features; and “Power of Networks” reveals how sustainable urban governance relates to relational capital, social capital, and partnerships in an urban context. The interface of the intellectual structure and mainstream research with stakeholder theory is discussed using constructs such as value creation and salience. We conclude with implications for policy-makers, local communities, scholars, and urban planners.

The expansion of cities and the change in the urbanization system have led to the increased activity duration in cities and the continuation of part of daytime activities during the night. In this ...sense, the night is an opportunity to redefine the urban landscape in a period, and this definition is different from urban society and urban tourism. The term “night tourism” refers to any kind of tourism that occurs between sunset and sunrise. Therefore, this type of tourism is raised by the time when tourism activities are carried out and their spatial limits, not by the nature of these activities and their motivations.Despite the development of the “Master Nightscape Plan” in official documents and academic literature, the term “night tourism” has not yet been correctly defined, and the night tourism classification has not been analyzed in terms of the type of audience, the selection of a suitable place, and the type of activity carried out during the night. In many cities of the world, night tourism has become the main element of tourism competitiveness in the city and makes an essential economic contribution to the urban economy. The existing studies in the master nightscape plan focus on decorative actions and specific spaces. However, there is no approach to the different timings making the night, and no realistic interpretation of night tourism and its impacts.
