The present study aims to elucidate the state of gender equality in high-quality research by analyzing the representation of female authorships in the last decade (from 2008 to 2016).
Based on the ...Gendermetrics platform, 293,557 research articles from 54 journals listed in the Nature Index were considered covering the categories Life Science, Multidisciplinary, Earth & Environmental and Chemistry. The core method was the combined analysis of the proportion of female authorships and the female-to-male odds ratio for first, co- and last authorships. The distribution of prestigious authorships was measured by the Prestige Index.
29.8% of all authorships and 33.1% of the first, 31.8% of the co- and 18.1% of the last authorships were held by women. The corresponding female-to-male odds ratio is 1.19 (CI: 1.18-1.20) for first, 1.35 (CI: 1.34-1.36) for co- and 0.47 (CI: 0.46-0.48) for last authorships. Women are underrepresented at prestigious authorships compared to men (Prestige Index = -0.42). The underrepresentation accentuates in highly competitive articles attracting the highest citation rates, namely, articles with many authors and articles that were published in highest-impact journals. More specifically, a large negative correlation between the 5-Year-Impact-Factor of a journal and the female representation at prestigious authorships was revealed (r(52) = -.63, P < .001). Women publish fewer articles compared to men (39.0% female authors are responsible for 29.8% of all authorships) and are underrepresented at productivity levels of more than 2 articles per author. Articles with female key authors are less frequently cited than articles with male key authors. The gender-specific differences in citation rates increase the more authors contribute to an article. Distinct differences at the journal, journal category, continent and country level were revealed. The prognosis for the next decades forecast a very slow harmonization of authorships odds between the two genders.

El analisis del discurso y del mundo ficcional del microrrelato fantastico espanol del siglo XXI revela un general silenciamiento de la voz de la mujer, patente tanto en los espacios limitados que ...ocupa como en los papeles perifericos que desempena. Este trabajo se centra en los procesos de visibilizacion de la mujer que parecen distinguirse en el microrrelato espanol escrito por escritoras mujeres (y por escritores hombres que subvierten la construccion de genero en algunas de sus creaciones). En primer lugar, se estudia el modo como se amplian para la mujer ficcional espacios y funciones, reivindicandola en el relato como sujeto paciente y agente del fenomeno fantastico, y convirtiendola en narradora de su propia historia. En segundo lugar, se examinan los valores del resurgimiento de la imagen de la mujer mantis o mujer devoradora, que se erige -emancipada- en uno de los monstruos fantasticos mas emblematicos de la posmodernidad. The analysis of the discourse and the fictional world of fantastic Spanish microfiction of the twentieth century reveals a general silencing of the female voice, evident both in the limited spaces she occupies and in the peripheral roles she plays. This paper focuses on the processes of visibilization of women that seem to unveil themselves in the Spanish microstories written by female writers (and by male writers who subvert the construction of gender in some of their creations). Firstly, I study the way in which fictional women expand spaces and functions, claiming their role in the stories as patient and agent subjects of the fantastic phenomenon, and making them the narrators of their own stories. Secondly, I examine the values of the resurgence of the image of the 'praying mantis' woman, or devouring woman, who becomes --emancipated--one of the most emblematic fantastic monsters of postmodernity.

The patriarchal gender division of private-public dichotomy assigned to particular gender for different roles and sphere is generally viewed as an “ancient” practice in the West. However, this ...“ancient” gender conception that can be traced from its Greco-Roman and Judeo-Christian roots can frequently be pertinently visible in modern Western world as exemplified in the notion of “Woman’s place” and; it becomes the dominant gender discourse. Consequently, this discourse continually creates hierarchical and unequal power relation that marginalizes women in accessing education and their full participation in public spheres. This limited accessibility to education (including language and literacy) also shapes the roles and status of women as writers in Western critical and literary tradition. Writing as a profession is traditionally men’s domain; therefore, the production and contribution of women writers have less privilege and space in the Western canon. Women writers from time to time have to struggle to reclaim their rights and place in it. This research attempts to re-examine how this (re)production of the binary opposition of private-public sphere operates in language and literature of the Western critical literary tradition by scrutinizing the selected poems by the selected women writers in this research. Furthermore, this research also studies and locates how women writers employ particular strategies in gendering and degendering their writings as both aesthetic and ideological expressions. In conclusion, this research argues that women writings are not “deficient” and “inferior” to their male counterpart; and instead their status and difference as writers are the result of patriarchal dominance and power relation that historically have subordinated and denied them equal public access to education, language, literacy, and literary production.

It fosters familiarity and connection with established texts, prompting readers to adopt innovative reading approaches that challenge the notion of self-contained literary works. This cultivates a diverse cultural discourse, bridging her work to a timeless and borderless literary heritage, and giving rise to fresh perspectives or commentaries on the role of literature within society, actively participating in pivotal contemporary discussions.
