  • Deburring and edge finishing in tool manufacturing
    Dolinšek, Slavko ; Dornfeld, D.
Burr formation during the machining process in a major concern in industry. In the process of tool-making, the cost of deburring are usually not so high, but edge finishing is often one of the ... necessary operations to ensure product functionality. Especially in cutting operations such are milling, the knowledge of burr formation and kinds of burrs to be produced, could contribute to quality of the tool and minimize the machining costs. In the paper, the basic knowledge about burr formation mechanism, the classification of burrs and methods to minimize burr occurence in cutting process, are presented. It also shows some practical solutions of minimizing burrs obtaind in studying the expiriences of burr experts in institutes abroad and in our experimental work, which could be also applied to Slovenian tool making precesses.
