Pogostnost bolezni ustne sluznice in obzobnih tkiv pri osebah v Sloveniji, okuženih s človeškim virusom imunske pomanjkljivosti(HIV-1) in virusom hepatitisa C(HCV) : magistrsko delo = Prevalence of oral pathology and periodontal disease in HIV-1 and HCV infected patients in SloveniaArtnik, BarbaraUnderstanding the epidemiology of oral lesions is essential for the preventionof new cases of HIV and HCV infections and ensures more effective help to person already infected. In the world there are ... pretty considerable options about the frequency of individual oral diseases in both risky infections. The level of periodontal tissue injury is not clarified in HIV infected persons and particularly not in HCV infected ones. In our study we determined the alterations of oral mucosa and periodontal tissues at HIV-1 and HCV infected persons in Slovenia. We also evaluated the frequency of individual oral diseases in infected persons and compared the condition in oral cavity with the degree of advanced infection. Oral mucosa lesions of seropositive persons were assessed with oral clinical examination. The amount of dental plaque deposits and gingival inflammation were evaluated with established parameters, used in clinical periodontology. Plaque Index, Gingival Index, probing depth and clinical attachment loss were recorded around all the teeth at four measuring sites and average individual values foreach patient were calculated. The stage of infection progress was assessed with a viral load, expressed in the number of RNA copies per ml of the plasma, and in HIV-1 infection also with the CD4 cells concentration in peripheral blood. The results of the study showed that candidiasis and hairy leukoplakia are frequently present in oral cavity of HIV-1 infected persons (28.6% each). The prevalence of both diseases is higher in persons with advanced HIV-1 infection evaluated with a lower concentration of CD4 cells in peripheral blood. The stage of periodontal disease is similar both in HIV-1 infected and in seronegative persons, while it is increasing in HIV-1 infectedpersons with increased stage of the infection. Cheilitis angularis (26%) and lichen planus on oral mucosa (16%) often emerge in persons infected by HCV.(Abstract truncated at 2000 characters.)Type of material - master's thesisPublication and manufacture - Ljubljana : [B.
