Okužbe z neprilagojenimi salmonelami pri otrocih = Nontyphoidal salmonella infections in childrenAhčan, Jerneja ; Andlovic, Alenka ; Radšel, AnjaSalmonella infections represent approximatelly 10% of all reported intestinal infections in Slovenia. Nontyphoidal Salmonella species are the most common bacterial pathogens of gastroenteritis in ... children. The usual clinical presentation of nontyphoidal Salmonella infection is self-limited gastroenteritis, however bacteremia and focal extraintestinal infections may also occur. The incidence rates of invasive salmonellosis vary widely and are higher in infants, immunocompromised people and children with hemoglobinopathies. Diarrheas are treated symptomatically. Antimicrobial therapy is recommended for children who are at high risk of complications or who have invasive salmonellosis. Our retrospective study showed out that 115 children aged < 15 years with salmonella gastroenteritis were hospitalized at the Department of Infectious Diseases in Ljubljana from 1 January 2006 to 31 August 2007. The median duration of hospital stay was 3.4 days. Bacteriemia was found in 5 children and none of them had extraintestinal focal infection. The most frequent serotypes of Salmonella isolated from stools of children at the Institute of microbiology and Immunology in Ljubljana, were Salmonella Enteritidis and Salmonella Typhimurium. Salmonella Enteritidis was susceptibleto all antibiotics, and all isolated nontyphoidal Salmonella were susceptible to 3rd generation cephalosporines.Source: Črevesne okužbe : zbornik predavanj, Ljubljana 23-24 november 2007 (Suppl. 2, 2007, str. 29-34)Type of material - conference contributionPublish date - 2007Language - slovenianCOBISS.SI-ID - 23589081
