The paper deals with evaluation of lightning threat of distribution network feeders based on the advanced use of high resolution flash density maps. High resolution flash density maps with the ...resolution of 100 x 100 m are calculated from lightning information collected by lightning location system. The calculation of the high resolution flash density maps introduces use of error ellipses that are integral part of the lightning information provided by the lightning location system. By the implementation of the advanced topological and spatial analysis of the distribution network it is possible to evaluate lightning threat probability per feeder. Results of such analysis represent key input data for protective measures to be taken like line surge arresters installations or replacement of the overhead line with a cable line.
